ULPT; Sneaking alcohol on Carnival cruise

So I know this question has been asked a lot but I’m scared of getting caught and being banned, so I guess I’m just looking for some real stories on how everyone has snuck some alcohol on board recently without being caught?
It’s a short cruise in peak season. I don’t have any qualms paying for the drink package cause I WOULD use the 15/day, but the person I’m rooming with doesn’t drink AT ALL. So having to buy both would just be a total waste.
I had someone on my last cruise get some on with just plastic bags wrapped in clothes. But that was a longer cruise where boarding was WAY behind. I’m scared a short cruise, they’ll check more.
Right now, I’m considering resealing a wine bottle and then maybe checking one bag with like a mouthwash bottle filled with vodka and blue food dye.
I’m deathly afraid of being caught as this is the person I’m going with first cruise AND she completely paid for my portion of it 😬
maufkn_ced@reddit
I think it depends on the port and the cruise. Carnival imo has been a wrap for sneaking for a few years now, esp on the party cruises.
But, we’ve paid a little extra to the porter before and they’ve done it. Can’t say they actually did anything though. YMMV
trench_welfare@reddit
Get a couple boxes of saline enemas and refill the bottles with liquor. Reseal the boxes, and throw on a giant butplug and lube alongside them in the bag. I doubt any security is going to scrutinize those.
xghost-1@reddit
Smart. Then you can just butt chug a shot at a time and really get all the value outta that booz. Everclear for effect.
spdwgn@reddit
Back in like 2010 or 11, my parents bought bottles of Tresemme, the huge shampoo bottles and dumped them out and filled with booze. They got away with it then, but the soap taste lingered in the alcohol so I don’t recommend this method.
isNoQueenOfEngland@reddit
Ooo la la
UntestedMethod@reddit
I think they sell fresh clean decoy bottles now so you can skip the soap entirely
JustForkIt1111one@reddit
TIL that's a thing. https://www.amazon.com/GoPong-Bottle-Sunscreen-Funnel-Liquor/dp/B01DF6VVLM
sasshole07@reddit
Did the same with a sunscreen bottle once - I can still taste it 🤮
Coolcollcoll@reddit
My mom did the same around the same time frame. Every day the housekeeping person would move the shampoo bottle from the kitchen to the shower, lol.
Impossible_Month1718@reddit
She was moving it after slurping the alcohol
Impossible_Month1718@reddit
Shocked they did that because those are not food safe
aquawomanpower@reddit
Loollll I did this in 2008 and it got through tsa. For some reason I feel like it wouldn’t work anymore but who knows!
jokunokun@reddit
yeah as soon as you said Tresemme I imagined whatever you put in those bottles tasting like trash
travis147@reddit
It's not for youuuuu
jell0shots@reddit
Listerine bottles would have worked too
Aforementionedlurker@reddit
I would not recommend anything where the first step is to be an alcoholic, either
MakeoutPoint@reddit
Y'know, I've found that cruise drink packages are right on the edge of being a deal anyway, and I spend (and drink) less by just paying per drink (because I'm not feeling pressured to "get my money's worth").
You're already getting a free cruise, how much are you expecting to save over the course of a few days that you need to go down this path of being "deathly afraid you'll be caught"? I'd also be concerned that your cabinmate is completely sober and you're trying to get shitfaced for the whole trip....might ruin the cruise for her even without getting caught.
Oh, and the ULPT trick is to put a pissdisk in your bag so when they go to check it, they're so grossed out they just move it through or something
The_Nice_Marmot@reddit
The move here is to buy some big bottles of vodka and then boil them down to a powder at home. Disguise them as cocaine, and then just add water again once you’re aboard.
RivenRise@reddit
Damn now I'm wondering if coke in a makeup container would work. Or if you boil vodka down into a thick slurry and put it in a lotion container
SpellingIsAhful@reddit
Do you know the word distilled?
xghost-1@reddit
There was a beer company that made freeze dried beer, and sold the carbonation device the used litte C02 canisters for back packing. I think it was somehow alcoholic still. Prolly pretty gnarly tasting but it was sold as a way to save weight during backpacking. It was way more than normal 12oz beer prices, and wasn't worth it unless your an ultralight backpacker in my opinion, but it did exist. I think the company pivoted to something else and discontinued. Pressed powder 🤣
Kiloblaster@reddit
Lmao
mtxyz@reddit
This was likely a joke, but just saying you can’t concentrate alcohol like that. It has a lower boiling point than water (how distilling works).
AccomplishedIgit@reddit
Also you would ridiculously drunk just off the fumes of boiling it lol
_Ganon@reddit
If solid alcohol were a thing, there would be all kinds of alcoholic edibles
orange_lighthouse@reddit
Does vodka jelly count?
Zero-Milk@reddit
No. That's still liquid alcohol, but suspended in gelatin.
The_Nice_Marmot@reddit
Yes, it was definitely a joke. I thought if nothing else the “disguise as cocaine” would be a tip off.
marticcrn@reddit
Upvote for creative piss disk use.
TroubleDawg@reddit
How about a faux ostomy bag? No one wants to mess with one of those. Would need to have seen one in RL to get it right. Faux ostomy bag...
chaosperfect@reddit
Why go faux? Install a pump into it for a nonstop liquor colonic injection! Boof cruise!
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
Yeah I’ve never found it worth while either. Mostly because first you need to buy for everyone in cabin and second since it’s for each day even the days you are at port.
On a normal day it would be kinda hard to break even and then the days at port when your off ship, virtually impossible for me at least.
SwoodyBooty@reddit
I'm an alcoholic and I love beer. 15 a day would be 7,5 liters of beer. Not even a whole case! So I'm basically forced to drink at least 3-4 cocktails to get holiday level drunk.
That's not for everyone, but why cut me off early, if I have so much party left in me.
Displaced_in_Space@reddit
You are the very reason for the 15-per-day limit.
breathing__tree@reddit
As someone who rarely drinks and can get shit faced off of two cocktails, 15 is insane.
Tiiimmmaayy@reddit
Most of the people who can drink 24-30 beers a day drink the cheapest light beer that’s basically water. I’m more impressed by the amount of liquid they can consume. I get physically sick drinking like 10 beers before I even get drunk.
breathing__tree@reddit
Alcohol is a diuretic so that’s the only way I can fathom that liquid intake 😭 I drink about 40-50 ounces of water a day along with a coffee and any more than that? I would never leave the bathroom!
BoonSchlapp@reddit
That’s….. not enough water. Less than a half gallon per day, or less than a third if you drink 40 oz.
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
Not sure who’s downvoting you. You hear spitting the facts. I think the average guy is suppose to drink around 120oz and women around 90oz per day.
If that poster really is only getting 40oz and coffee they going around dehydrated af.
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
I mean I do agree if they advertise unlimited it should be unlimited. 🤷🏻♂️ At least as long as the person is not being a menace to others.
idiot-prodigy@reddit
You can't sell the drinks, but you can certainly give them away.
My parents go with another couple on cruises. They swap drink packages. This cruise my parents get it, the next cruise their friends get it. They're all older and aren't drinking 15 drinks a day, but they easily drink 6 or 7 a day and gift the others to their friends.
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
Yeah this definitely works if you are traveling with friends in another separate cabin. As long as they don’t see you swapping drinks.
idiot-prodigy@reddit
The big problem is if you go off the ship on excursions you're now spending up to six hours on an island where you're buying other drinks anyways.
There are also limits per drink cost, I think it was $18 on Carnival Cruise most recently, meaning the drink package won't cover top shelf liquor or more expensive cocktails.
Connect-Ask-3820@reddit
I agree with this answer. Cruises are relatively cheap and vacations shouldn’t be stressful. Last year I went on a RC cruise and spent $200 on the drink package. I had, like, 8-10 mixed drinks a day for a week with top shelf stuff. That’s like, $3 per drink and I didn’t have to figure out what to mix my sketchy Ensenada pre-opened vodka into.
JellyCat222@reddit

You must be new here....
ohpickanametheysaid@reddit
Did they really just ask what a piss disk was?…….. on reddit?…….smh. Sad times we are in when one no longer knows what piss disks are.

ukuleles1337@reddit
So ya, i (a 16 year old at the time) got some wines and snuck them on my suitcase they found them and said i could "drink them with the others outside the line"
My folks didnt know till the security found it, and let me crack open a bottle to "share" with the other doofuses who got caught. (we are from USA, and we stayed night in venice, then cruised around greece)
My dad had a popular website related to booking travel, so we had alcohol comped and shit so i didnt even need to buy the wine......
They only let me drink when it was legal to do so, including international waters. 😂

As a former drinker who’s now sober, if I paid for someone’s cruise and they were shitfaced the whole time I’d want to throw them overboard. Been there, know the panic of guaranteeing your supply, and Not having to plan your drinking is such a relief. Good luck
SeveredBanana@reddit
Fr saying shit like “I would have 15 drinks a day if I got the package but my travel mate doesn’t drink”… I feel bad for the travel mate
thekitt3n_withfangs@reddit
I took that to mean $15/day, not 15 drinks. If you think about it, 15 drinks a day would be insane to offer as a normal package deal.
SeveredBanana@reddit
Just looked it up, nope! 15 drinks, $70 a day
https://www.carnival.com/drink-packages/cheers-package/cheers-SUM
Dantheman4162@reddit
UP To 15/day. It’s not a required it’s a max. If you drink 15 drinks a day it’s like $4 a drink for $70/day . Even if you drink 5 a day, which is still a lot but not crazy on vacation, it’s like $14 a drink which isn’t that bad considering normal bar prices and expecting a premium on a cruise.
SeveredBanana@reddit
Dantheman4162@reddit
I agree op is being excessive. My point is the package doesn’t seem unreasonable.
15 a day is ambitious. Most people are awake like 16-17 hours (and that’s if you are ambitious and wake up after like a 7-8 hr night sleep.). I’m sure most people on a cruise who anticipate to drink 15 drinks per day probably are getting closer to 10 hours of sleep. That means you’re at least drinking one drink every hour you’re awake.
Maybe the first day he could pull it off. But by day two I’m sure his tummy is going to be rumbling after a hair of the dog.
-mutt@reddit
As an alcoholic (working on it, I don’t need anyone chastising me), a lot of us are not getting a solid 7-8 hour sleep. I easily have the time during the day to drink more than 15. Alcohol wrecks your sleep, and if you go without for too long you wake up sweating and shaking, so you drink more.
If someone is on a cruise aiming for 15 drinks a day and getting 10 hours of sleep, I’m envious. I’m lucky if I get 5.
It’s a nasty habit and unfortunately if someone is drinking that much, they’re not following the “one drink per hour” rule.
There are days I wake up (usually around 3-4am after going to sleep around 11-12) and immediately grab a drink. And then another. And sometimes two at the same time.
My point is 15 is not excessive to an alcoholic, it’s very doable, and by op’s worry of not having the amount of access they want to it, I’d say they are starting down a path (if they haven’t already) that they don’t want to be on.
Alcoholism sucks.
thekitt3n_withfangs@reddit
Hey, working on it at all is amazing, and it sounds like you've made progress too! This internet stranger is proud of your every win, big and small.
I mainly have observational experience from watching some of my loved ones struggle with alcoholism that runs in their families, and it truly is an unfair struggle. The genetic lottery gives some people battles that others will never have to face, and there's so much stigma surrounding addiction that doesn't help anyone.
Thank you for sharing, and I hope things get better for you. I believe in you! 🫶
thekitt3n_withfangs@reddit
Yeahhh, reading that made my stomach hurt lol... I try not to judge, but I am concerned. I'm not a big drinker though, so even a day or two of this type of relaxing would take me out haha.
Goodgoditsgrowing@reddit
If you could mix it up with some being non-alcoholic the only real issue would be how many calories you’re drinking - and it’s holiday!
acoffeetogo@reddit
You call and say your roommate takes medication and CANNOT drink. But you're still interested in the package. This has worked for us in the past. In my case it was true.. but in my sister's case they just wanted to share booze lol
Katiew84@reddit
They will then likely block the roommate from being able to drink on the cruise at all. That’s if they approve it, which is unlikely, even with a doctor’s note.
acoffeetogo@reddit
But OP said the roommate doesn't drink at all, so that wouldn't be issue. It worked for me with Norweigan, ymmv. I'd rather go this route.. than sneak it in shampoo containers. Yum soap.
Katiew84@reddit
Yeah I’d never sneak it in. That’s crazy to me. Just pay per drink if you can’t get the drink package.
ZuZu_Petals_@reddit

imnottheoneipromise@reddit
Yeahhhh colostomy bags don’t work like that. You can’t tape em to your leg. Maybe you’re thinking of a catheter
linknt01@reddit
Yeahhhhh that might be a real issue if the person checking is a doctor or nurse, and not some average joe unwilling to shake a warm bag of “bodily fluids”
TheCarcissist@reddit
My last cruise i thought about this for about 20 seconds. I than realized that, at best, I could smuggle in enough to get buzzed for one night. Just buy the drink package and be done with it

If she’s paying, it’s not worth the risk. You fuck this up and it’s not going to end well and you’ll look like a total loser. they won’t check better just because its a short cruise. my husband bought some fake resealable shampoo bottles off amazon, we have taken them on 3 cruises and made it onboard just fine. 2 disney cruises and one carnival.

Wait till a port.
Buy a couple water bottles and fill them with vodka. Carry them back on.
Budded@reddit
What about those plastic bag boob inserts made for sneaking alcohol into concerts? Fill up a couple of those, maybe putting a couple in your pants as well...
zer0guy@reddit
That's what I did. They are some called rum runners. I hid a few on me, and also a few in my luggage, and they both made it through.
Your also allowed to bring two bottles of wine. And I ask my other friends and family if they plan to bring two for themselves, and if they aren't, I ask them If they can use their two for me.
few23@reddit
But will I have to be in drag the whole cruise?
netflows@reddit
It’s been a decade since I’ve been on a cruise, but they would take every water bottle brought onto the ship and shake it to see if it foamed. We got around this by buying one of those big shrink wrapped cases of like 24 bottles and pulling a few out, filling them, and then squeezing them back into the package behind other bottles. Some of the liquor stores around the ports would actually do this for you if you paid a few extra bucks.
Plane_Translator2008@reddit
Does alcohol foam? 😬
zer0guy@reddit
Foam is too strong a word. It makes bubbles differently.

des0510@reddit
Water isn't allowed to be brought on board since 2014/2015
Cleanslate2@reddit
Wow. I don’t think I want to go where I’m treated like that.
Displaced_in_Space@reddit
The irony of this post in a thread about how to circumvent alcohol restriction rules because 15 drinks a day is too few.
How DARE they treat you like such rabble!
SuspiciousStress1@reddit
No, this post is because they do not want to spend $15-20 per drink outside of package(that wouldnt work since everyone in the cabin has to have the same pkg)
Same reason I brought coke on board in 1999-I didnt want to pay $5 per bottle(back when it was 25c in the store)
Displaced_in_Space@reddit
Then just buy the Bubbles package and pay as you go for alcohol. Buy nothing but shots ont he rocks and pour into your sportsbottle filled with soft drinks/juice.
Done and done.
Plane_Translator2008@reddit
Wait. Is that real?
Cleanslate2@reddit
The reason it struck me was because it sounded like being admitted into a jail or something where everything is searched (even bottles of water)!
Displaced_in_Space@reddit
It's not really like that. I've been on more than 10 cruises. It's essentially like going through airport security. Anything spotted with large voids of liquids is checked.
For most people not smuggling, there ARE no big voids of liquids. If I'm going on a 5 day cruise, how much damn shampoo do I need? Certainly not a half gallon bottle.
I've never once had my bag opened for secondary inspection and I bring shampoo, sunscreen, etc in appropriate size containers.
It just sort of defeats the whole "I'm here to relax" thing for me.
Stealyosweetroll@reddit
Yeah if that's what you read, that's rough.
njmids@reddit
OP wants to sneak booze because their roommate doesn’t drink. Cruises will only allow you to buy an unlimited drink package if everyone in your room buys one.
SuspiciousStress1@reddit
It is because of people like OP....when passengers start using things to "sneak" things on board, they make more rules.
I will leave the debate about alcohol being allowed vs not for another day-I personally have mixed feelings, although the carnival crowd definitely makes me understand a need for some control in that area!!
However where theres a will, there's a way...I am sure OP will find a way!!
P.S. in 1999 I snuck coke onboard(coca-cola), this was back before drink packages...havent been on a ship since 08-where we bought drink packages-but back then you could get them individually, not like now!
Ultimately I prefer land vacations with a bit more freedom!!
Budded@reddit
"It is because of people like OP....when passengers start using things to "sneak" things on board, they make more rules."
This is what I tell anyone raging against regulations, as they only exist because somebody took things way too far, creating the need for a rule against such exploitation.
secondphase@reddit
I mean, they will also give you all the free water you ask for. All they are doing is not allowing OP to sneak booze on board.
johnny15wrong2@reddit
i went on a cruise this year and we had to go through scanners
GirlStiletto@reddit
Most cruise lines don;t allow you to take water bottles on unless they are in a shirn wrapped box.
DefiantBlackberry775@reddit
Nope, they typically won't let you bring water bottles back on. When they do, they will check the seals.
discoduck007@reddit
Dang good comment!
chris14020@reddit
I mean, your mouthwash idea should work fine - how would they possibly prove the difference there? Especially if you used something like peppermint schnapps dyed, it'd look and smell the part.
But, long term, you're suggesting large quantities of strong spirits - apparently even wine won't suffice. You mentioned you could go through 15 drinks in a day, as well, if I read that correctly. You also said that it's a fairly short cruise, and mentioned not paying for your portion (and avoiding paying for other things too). Sounds like a pretty serious addiction at that point, if you're needing such volume and willing to risk costing someone who paid for the vacation, their entire trip. This isn't a judgment, so much as hopefully putting into perspective how serious your condition is if you are getting a free vacation and your biggest priority is figuring out how to get excessive amounts of alcohol on board to be able to make it through the trip.
I hope your trip works out, that the person paying for the trip doesn't end up paying the price (especially if they don't realize just how severe your condition is), and that you strongly consider getting help getting this addiction and dependency under control.
Good luck mate.
gogozrx@reddit
Just to clarify, the 15 is $15, the amount you pay per day for the drink package. At $7-10/drink, that's not a lot.
kraegm@reddit
No. The package lists the number of drinks and usually comes in close to the $100 mark. You are very incorrect in your understanding here.
gogozrx@reddit
I can only speak from my experience with a daily price of ~$20-30.
kraegm@reddit
Then maybe state that rather than stating it from authority. Especially since OP told us it would be $500 for the whole cruise.
gogozrx@reddit
Ok. This is my experience.
Better now?
mleftpeel@reddit
When I went on a cruise in 2019 I think it was $70 a day for the drink package, per person. For $15 a day maybe you can get soda and milkshakes... Maybe. Definitely not alcoholic beverages.
KittHeartshoe@reddit
You are incorrect
FauxmingAtTheMouth@reddit
IME, the 15/day is 15 drinks per day. I only know because I got the package once and hit the 15 drinks max a couple days, but wasn’t charged anything extra
thighmaster4000@reddit
Yeah definitely not. How could a cruise ship make money if they charged only $15 a day? When we've done the math we would each have to have around seven drinks a day to make the drink package worth it. If the other person in the room isn't drinking then 15 would be the goal.
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
Yeah 10-15 a day is like the soda only package.
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
No it’s not. The drink packages are like $35 to $45 per day PER person in the cabin mandatory for all people in room. Maybe you are thinking the non-alcoholic packages. So he’d be looking at probably close to $100 per day.
gogozrx@reddit
They often run sales/promotions. The package I had was $20/day for alcohol, so that was what I was figuring they were saying. Maybe I'm wrong, but unless OP clarifies we'll never know for sure.
teamdragonite@reddit
So you just assumed special pricing and not regular pricing based on your one experience? Ok
gogozrx@reddit
Yes, I did. Based on my experience, the number was reasonable. I certainly didn't do any research, checking prices across multiple lines, looking for specials, verifying offers.
Did you?
Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
I didn’t right now that’s why I have a range based on many many past carnival cruises, and research as of even earlier this year, and not an exact number. Never seen anything close to the price you are saying for an alcohol package, not saying you didn’t get that deal but highly unlikely OP did.
Also he referenced 15 drinks as the limit and you said no you mean 15 dollars and that’s wrong OP is correct even on the unlimited drinks packages you are limited to 15 per day.
sovietbarbie@reddit
uhhh we have no idea even which cruise op is taking and in which country. the concern is nice however
Top-Oil-2786@reddit (OP)
Just want to clarify since everyone here seems to think I’m an unsave-able alcoholic..
I’m probably trying to pack too much with a small mouthwash AND a wine bottle. I know that, but I’m just a person who tends to be over prepared with EVERYTHING. I’ll also likely have too many clothes, soap, toothpaste, hell I usually even bring an extra toothbrush. So it is probably too much that I won’t even go through.
I actually don’t drink liquor day-to-day. I have a beer here and there.. but I only drink liquor on vacation/big events. It makes me enjoy my time more because I tend to have a lot of anxiety and a high strung personality and it lets me calm down and relax. The most healthy thing? No. But I’m not asking for advice on my coping mechanisms here..
While my trip was paid for, I offered and tried to pay for my portion and was denied. I also preferred going in an off season when prices/crowds were down, but her choice was to go now, at a pricier time. So she paid for my portion. I would have no problem paying for a drink package for myself, or even for her too if she drank. But since it’s only me who drinks, and contrary to the people here who seem to think I’m basically Frank Gallagher, I can’t put down 30 drinks a day. And $500+ (I checked the price) is ridiculous for one person.
So again, while I appreciate everyone’s concern over my apparently obvious severe addiction 🙄 I’m really just looking for a way to still have a fun time over a few days without having to sell my first born to Carnival. I’m also in a situation where money is tight right now, so spending an arm and a leg on a few drinks just isn’t an option.
kraegm@reddit
I hear what you are saying, but from an outside perspective when you said you can hit your 15 drink a day limit, I don’t think you realize how much that is to the average drinker, even on holiday.
Don’t get upset with people who see that as excessive or extreme.
In addition, it’s hard to read your justification of drinking that amount and not see it as rationalization.
And finally, you don’t get to reveal more information and be snarky towards people whose analysis came from your initial, less informative information.
Top-Oil-2786@reddit (OP)
The 15 drinks a day is not as crazy as people make it out to be.. when I’m on vacation I like to enjoy my life and do things I DONT usually do at home. Like getting up at 7/8 with a Bloody Mary.. having a pina colada here and there while I’m in the sun, etc. you hit it WAY quicker than you think. Last cruise we got cut off and multiple employees said to us “you guys don’t even seem buzzed.. it’s crazy you went through that much”. I’m not going out and doing 15 tequila shots in an hour..
Just because other people can’t handle their alcohol, they see to think no one can..
As far as the “revealing more information and being snarky”… my initial post was simply asking for advice/person experiences with getting alcohol on board. When I’m flooded with comments stating that I’m a horrible alcoholic.. then I am justified in being snarky. The information on who paid wasn’t relevant to my initial post.
Some people can drink a bit and have a good time without being an alcoholic.. however this post has shown me how many people apparently can’t handle their alcohol.. smh
kraegm@reddit
So … the people on the cruise told you that you drink a “crazy” amount. People who see some really heavy drinkers on the regular. And your focus is on them saying “you don’t seem buzzed”.
Surely you can see how that reads? You are looking at this through the wrong lens by comparing it to home - it is commonly referred to as “binge drinking” when it is outside your normal day-to-day but follows a consistent pattern of occurrence.
And even though this is ULPT, people can still have compassion and be judgemental about the “why” of your request while still following through on the “how” of your request.
Top-Oil-2786@reddit (OP)
My point was that 15 drinks at a bar.. yeah, I’m on the floor. 15 drinks in a 12+ hour period on vacation?
As for people around me disagreeing… the only complaints I’ve received are from strangers on the internet.. so I believe I’m good. 😊
wigglin_harry@reddit
These redditors are fuddy duddys, dont worry OP. Anyone who has even been on a cruise knows that 12-15 drinks a day isn't really that crazy
Also its vacation and the point of a cruise is pure hedonism. Unlimited food, unlimited alcohol, gambling, day naps, hot tubbing, hooking up. Its a literal giant party from start to finish
kraegm@reddit
Except for the staff that called him out on it right?
wigglin_harry@reddit
Are you being deliberately obtuse?
“you guys don’t even seem buzzed.. it’s crazy you went through that much”
Is hardly being "called out". They were moreso commenting on how sober they seem despite having 15 drinks. The cruise staff doesn't give a shit how much someone drinks if they dont make problems, they love plowing people full of drinks because they get TIPS
kraegm@reddit
No sir.
If you don’t believe the “it’s crazy” holds meaning here, surely “that much” tells you something.
It’s possible you are the one being deliberately obtuse, but ok - project away.
kraegm@reddit
There is zero difference between your rationale and the rationale of a person with an alcohol issue. As many have said you might want to look into it.
You may not see it, yet, but others on here can. My guess is you’re a bigger fella and that’s part of the reason it doesn’t show, and it’s possible people around you let that stop them from mentioning it.
But even if all is 100% ok and you are not an alcoholic by any definition, you have an amazing partner who sprung for your trip during a higher season and your main request is “how can I consume even more alcohol for less money?”, that’s its own set of problems.
Top-Oil-2786@reddit (OP)
lol “bigger fella” … I’m a 24 yr old chick. No one’s “not mentioning” anything to me because of my size.
My “amazing partner” is a family member who is also all for saving money where she can.
kraegm@reddit
Alright. Thats on me for making an incorrect assumption.
So you are a small, 24 y/o “chick”.
That does not make your 15 drink stance stronger.
You don’t see a problem- no problem. I hope that’s true and you don’t have to deal with the aftermath on this cruise.
zamfire@reddit
I can't even drink that much water in a single day. Wtf.
kraegm@reddit
Agreed. And now they’ve admitted to being a 24yo woman. It’s even less likely that they can down 15 drinks unless it’s normal for them and not only a vacation thing.
chris14020@reddit
This.
chris14020@reddit
If you think 15 drinks a day is "not that much", to the point you feel you need to sneak alcohol on board (at significant difficulty) and risk your whole vacation, well... The denial phase is a hard one to break, but I promise you that is NOT "nothing" or "no big deal". And I'm a mechanic, for reference, so I see plenty of people in various stages of alcoholism.
Top-Oil-2786@reddit (OP)
I’m not trying to sneak the alcohol to go above 15 drinks a day.. buying the package is $80 a day, per person (each person MUST buy it)
I want to bring alcohol so that I don’t have to buy drinks. When I have the drink package, I stretch to hit the limit to get my moneys worth. With just bringing alcohol, I’ll probably hit 7-8 drinks max. And if it were longer than 3 days, I wouldn’t even be able to keep up with that.
chris14020@reddit
I mean, you're already not paying for the cruise. I wouldn't jeapordize the other person's vacation over it, consider paying for your drinks package as "the cost" if you desperately need it in quantities that it'd be suspicious for anything else.
Im2inchesofhard@reddit
Reddit brain leads to everyone overthinking everything. I made it a point of pride to hit my 15 drink limit every day when I purchased the package. And no, I'm not a severe alcoholic ruining all my relationships. Just a dude that can handle his alcohol, on a boat all day, hanging out by the pool playing cards making friends.
This is quite a few years back but pre-drink package I used two large plastic bag flasks tucked into my luggage and the normal allowed bottle of wine and had no issues. Everyone says you'll get caught but much like TSA as long as you aren't a giant twat about it if they find something they'll just toss it out and let you proceed. Mouthwash and wine bottle should be good to go if you follow all the tips about matching coloring and resealing.
kraegm@reddit
I think you and many people here define “pride” differently.
Being proud of being able to consume alcohol is not the flex you think it is.
mleftpeel@reddit
Dude just buy your drinks a la carte, and bring a wine bottle if you must. 2 cocktails during the day, a beer with dinner, and a night cap is gonna be way cheaper than the drink package.
Granadafan@reddit
My old roommate worked security for the cruise lines. Whatever trick people think of, the cruise lines knows it and has likely seen them all. Mouthwash is the most obvious or “case of water”. Who the hell brings a case of water on vacation?
Best_Barracuda_5546@reddit
Ppl who need a safe water source for CPAP machines so they can literally breathe
Klutzy-Amount3737@reddit
No need for that. Just fill out the special needs form with the cruise line in advance, they will have a bottle of distilled water put in your room for your CPAP (and an extension cord if needed). No charge.
Best_Barracuda_5546@reddit
That’s great to know. Thanks for the tip n
Arlochorim@reddit
As a Cpap user, the water helps dry sinuses that can lead to nosebleeds etc but isn't required for the machine to work. I rarely use my humidifier and rarely have issues.
that being said, something like a brita filter does a perfectly good job at removing the worst of the heavier water, and if you don't run it until it's totally dry, then you won't worry too much about limescale or calcium build-ups (usually they hold more than a single night's water)
way easier than bringing a full case of water which has probably had similar filtration.
Overall-Scientist846@reddit
Bringing a Brita Filter is easier in what world?
Arlochorim@reddit
a single empty water jug, which you can store other thinking inside of, vs a 24-48 pack of filled bottles?
either we're thinking of different things, or we have VERY different standards of easy.
Overall-Scientist846@reddit
I mean I don’t take a case of water onto a cruise or on vacation. I don’t think it’s an easy item to move.
But acting as if a WATER JUG is easy to just throw in your bag is some next level gaslighting.
odus27@reddit
.... are you thinking the water is already in the pitcher? And are you aware that there are various sizes of Britain's pitchers? You can even get personal size water bottles with filtration. But your take is so crazily off that you HAVE to be assuming something or just do not have experience with a Brita pitcher.
You can literally pack small things inside it. There is no world where a case of water bottles takes up less space and is easier to transport than a Brita pitcher that can literally go in a regular suitcase without taking up much space and is lightweight.
FundamentalAttribute@reddit
They sell Brita filters the size of water bottles too, they're like 20ish ounces and fit where your regular water bottle would go in a backpack.
odus27@reddit
Yes!! My husband has one. Super handy!
Arlochorim@reddit
gaslighting? really? by saying something smaller and lighter is more convinient than literal kilograms of pre-packaged water?
if you don't take cases of water with you, maybe the advice isn't for you buddy. doesn't mean it's any less valid for others though.
its almost like I said it's not necessary or something I use personally in my original comment, but it still provided a lighter more portable alternative for people who do need/take water for CPAPs.
sure it's not gunna be a great option if you take a single backpack, but taking a full suitcase isn't uncommon, and you can pack other things in the jug when it's not in use.
RivenRise@reddit
I use a CPAP too and don't even have a water or heat version cause I travel and camp all the time so it was easier for me to just get one without all the fancy stuff so i can power it on my brick and take it with me wherever.
TheDudeabides314@reddit
Bringing a case of water on cruise ships is quite common. Lots of people do it on all cruise lines. It’s so common that cruise ships offer to sell you a case of water and deliver it to your room for you.
Goodgoditsgrowing@reddit
I feel like I’d so distrust the tap water after that that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the trip.
TheDudeabides314@reddit
It literally says other than brushing your teeth not to drink the tap water in your cabin. Most cruise lines even allow you to bring so many sodas or bottles of wine you just pay a corkage fee.
OpenPromotion5430@reddit
Why does Reddit like your comment so much, but hate mine ? Lmfao.
JamesQpublic@reddit
That was the way I got mine on. I filled a full-size enormous bottle of Listerine with vodka and then used food coloring to match the color of Listerine.
This was years ago, but in hindsight, I’m shocked that they didn’t check it because who brings the biggest size of Listerine on a 10 day trip.
It was a terrible idea, though, because every drink had that revolting green color to it and a slight lingering hint of mintiness because I didn’t wash the bottle well enough. So it was disgusting.
Back then, though I wasn’t the alcoholic that I am now. Green drink? Pretend it’s st patrick’s day and fuck my liver.
GhostWalker134@reddit

A lot of people take water and soda. Convenience and price.
We were always having to remember to get water and soda for the room every day with our package. If you don't have a package, it def adds up. It's like stadium prices in the ship.

Klutzy-Comment6897@reddit
While I don’t bring my own water because fuck the logistics. I usually buy a case or two from Carnival and they do rip you off big time in the cost like 4 times the normal water costs. So I can see someone trying to avoid the costs.
OpenPromotion5430@reddit
I can’t go a week without a personal case, but then again have never been on a cruise.
StumpyShroom@reddit
Got caught up a couple years ago with a resealed wine bottle going on a carnival cruise. Security flips the wine bottle upside down and look for bubbles. Because wine ferments they expect to see bubbles. When you replace the wine with liquor and reseal it, the bottle won’t have bubbles when they flip it. Idk if they check every single wine bottle but for us they did.

The rum runner flasks worked for me. We did get caught with it in one bag becuase we put a TSA travel lock on the bag, which security thought was suspicious so they opened it up to inspect. But all of the other bags with the flasks made it through no problem.

Whenever I read these types of requests, I wonder is it really worth risking your vacation to save a couple hundred dollars on alcohol? Is the vacation that you're spending all this money on so boring that you have to do it drunk? Spend the money, drink in moderation, and don't fuck with the cruise lines. Chances are you will get caught. You do not want to get kicked off the cruise in another country. With what's happening in the world right now, airlines are raising the price of flights, flights are even being canceled due to jet fuel shortages. This is not a time to fuck around and find out. sorry if this was not the unethical life approach you were looking for.
C0V1Dsucks@reddit
This! I used to work with travel insurance claims for cruises. You basically have a 50/50 chance of getting caught. Your "ticket contract" definitely has language about sneaking alcohol onboard. Is it worth potentially losing thousands of dollars to save a few hundred? It's even worse if they somehow catch on to what you did in a port of call and you're disembarked early and forced to fly home on short notice. Travel insurance typically won't cover situations like this and you won't even get "future cruise credits" or a voucher or anything from the cruise line. Just budget accordingly - maybe skip a couple of excursions you wanted to do - and enjoy your drinks onboard stress-free.
darin617@reddit

This is a question just to consider--not tryin to get up in your friend's business, but why doesnt she drink, and how might it affect her if you do? Even if she is just a non-drinker just bc it's not her jam, she might have feelings about being on the same vacation in different states of consciousness, but if she is very religious, medically prohibited, or in recovery, it might bring up even more feels.
Not trying to rain on your ULPTs. I just wonder if this might be something you want to consider.

Went on a carnival cruise in 2023. Bought some clear plastic pouches kinda like IV bags and filled them with bourbon and vodka. Folded them up into the legs of a pair of my pants in my suitcase and got right on. Was drunk pretty much everyday.
Gator4Life@reddit
We did something like this a few times when we were able to find cheap cruises in college. We used 12 or 18 packs of Gatorade, add food coloring to the liquor to match the Gatorade coloring.

Carnival doesn't allow plastic bottles, only cans or cartons. Which yes, there are some canned Gatorade but they don't allow plastic bottles
Gator4Life@reddit
Ah, they changed it. It was probably 10ish years ago when we last use this.
amathestria@reddit
Yeah, Carnival has been cracking down lol

Use a bladder and keep it on your person. I did it earlier this year. You don't want it in your scanned bag but bc they'll see it on the Xray but they're only looking for metal as you go though a metal detector. I had 2 plastic bladders in my pants, each with about a fifth of bourbon. If I could do it over again I probably would've just put them in the pocket of a hoodie (it was a little awkward in my pants) but no one batted an eye. Figure it prolly saved us a G in booze costs bc the package was outrageous.

I did mouthwash on carnival - I bought some Tom’s of Maine brand, poured it into another container instead of wasting it, washed it out a bit and refilled with peppermint schnapps - it smells just like mouthwash anyways and is strong. I then took the security seal off a generic ibuprofen, superglued it over the top of the mouthwash to reseal it and trimmed to size. It made it on not problem - except peppermint schnapps doesn’t really go good with much, it’s more to pregame before going and drinking other stuff. It was good to have a little shot in coffee or hot chocolate when it was cool out.
We also had a stop on Catalina island, and there’s a liquor store with a section of liquor bottles just for cruise people. There is no metal on them so they won’t set off the metal detectors getting back on the cruise. I tucked a couple vodkas in my waistband and covered with a bulky hoodie, sucking in my gut a little and hunching over a little - got on no problem.

Why ratfk your friends good time and good intention to smuggle a little booze. Seems childishly selfish to me. Are you an alcoholic?
BrainRobotron@reddit
Usually you get one bottle of wine or champagne. Get a red wine bottle pull the cork out, drink the wine, then fill it with dark liquor of your choice put the cork back in re seal it with wax or whatever and walk in.

Try the flasks from rum runners
redsolitary@reddit
I never used to bat an eye at stuff like this. I’m sober now and cheeky shit like this seems less cheeky. It’s literally an indicator of alcohol dependence. Feel free to ignore me but I felt like I should say something here.
Enjoy the cruise either way. Get there early!
kristeelena@reddit
There are ways around this. Yes usually all adults in the room are required to get the drinks package, however there may be exceptions for medical reasons.
On a family cruise my uncle wanted the drinks package, but his wife didn’t drink enough to justify paying for herself to get one also. They told the cruise line she was newly pregnant and had only just found out. (She wasn’t really) That allowed him to purchase just 1 drinks package.
If she did feel like the odd spicy marg, he would just go grab one with his drinks card, take a sip then it was hers.
BelethorsGeneralShit@reddit
I get the drink package now so it's moot, but back in the day what I did was exactly what you say about mouthwash. Buy a giant bottle of it and empty it out, fill it with a clear liquor, then add two drops of green or blue food coloring. Did this a ton and never had any issue. Mouthwash has a bit of an alcohol-y smell to it anyway, and I can't imagine anyone in security is taking a sip of a strangers mouthwash to confirm.

The last cruise that I was on was a Carnival Cruise back in 2012. It was a Caribbean cruise and I went with my wife and daughter. I too was pondering the same question as you.
Back then I did some research and you now can go to Amazon and type “Rum Runner”. What you get is plastic/mylar flasks. There are absolutely no metal parts or metal on these.
Back in 2012, the security machines or x-ray machines at cruise terminals were not as sensitive as screening machines at airports. The cruise screening machines were only looking for metal and bottle silhouettes.
I bought mine in Miami at the time, there were 12 in the package (4 Large, 4 Medium and 4 Small) and a mini funnel to fill the flask. I filled them up with Gin, Vodka and Rum. I distributed the full flasks between my suitcase, my wife’s and my 10 year old daughter at the time. Long story short, I got on with my hootch no problem, I didn’t have to walk the plank and I am alive to tell the tale.
I think the worst thing they will do is confiscate the alcohol and maybe try to shame you, that would be it if you get caught.
senditloud@reddit
“Tampons” you can fill. They sell them online. It’ll only be a shot per tampon, but you can get a bunch… to make it less obvious I’d take like 8, and mix in with regular tampons and throw them in a jumble with other toiletries in bottom of a weird bag (another Redditor said they know all the tricks so this is one they probably know as well).
And then suck it up and buy drinks
Bacongrease83@reddit
O have brought bottles of screw top wine that I emptied and filled with vodka. Then I got a bottle of water and filled that with vodka to carry around on the boat. I got the unlimited sodas and topped it up with a little vodka.
tamponinja@reddit
I stuck a few plastic runners under my clothes of hard alcohol and had no problem.
stretchman_88@reddit
I don’t know if cruise lines are like airports, in terms of toiletries and sizes, but I always have to travel with contact solution. Empty a bottle and fill it with vodka.

Keyster it via enema like boofing but temporary. Your welcome.
ZenMoonstone@reddit
IIRC you can bring two bottles of wine with you. My friend once removed the cork (learned from YouTube) and filled it with her alcohol of choice. I’ve brought on the fake flasks like sunscreen bottle etc. I don’t ever remember them checking at all.
ADDandME@reddit
Focus on the lipids you can bring. 1 big bottle of mouthwash in each suitcase, you can usually bring 2 bottles of wine. Shampoo, conditioner. ETA. They sell fake clean bottles for this exact purpose online. Then there is the fake boob and belly flasks

Can you fill a rubbing alcohol bottle with 151 and say you’re sanitising for Covid and norovirus?
Gr8BurningNullifier@reddit
I brought a gallon of distilled water on a cruise with absolutely no questions. Pretty sure that a majority allow you to bring it on because medical reasons
dbumba@reddit
I've done this many times, the giant mouthwash bottle will be fine and you don't even need the dye.
Security does not care; they are concerned about weapons and fire hazards.
Once had a friend who decided it would be a good idea to bring on a bottle of tequila in a bottle that was the shape of a gun on a Carnival Cruise.
Well their luggage didn't show up at the room and they were freaking out-- when the luggage finally did show up, Carnival put a note on the luggage that said "We're sorry, we took your tequila gun, but you can pick it up in the port of call after the cruise". They didn't even throw it away like airport security would do.
So I wouldn't worry about being banned even if you're caught by some overzealous security guard.
Also, don't try to buy alcohol in a port and bring it back on the boat. The earlier on the cruise, the more they scrutinize what you bring back on board. Again they'll just make you throw it out at worst.
halljkelley@reddit
We’ve successfully done the resealed bottle trick. Got the corks and heat shrink stuff on Amazon. Just use dark red wine bottles.

I mean even at 30/day it’s prob worth the ease vs sneaking it on board.

Cruises are already a floating paradise marketed to alcoholics and you're worried about sneaking more alcohol onto the ship... wow
Pretty_Fisherman_314@reddit
they make hidden bottles that squirt out sunscreen lotion etc and are harder to open so it appears like a full lotion bottle
Clickbaitandswitcher@reddit
This was with Royal, but they didn't even take the 2 resealed wine bottles out of my bags. Bring a corkscrew though since the reusable corks can break easily. I also did the mouthwash thing. Security checked it, but only looked at the outside of the bottle and made sure it was a real mouthwash brand. I used therafresh and saved the seal to superglue it back over the opening. The cap goes over the seal (most bottles have a plastic shrinkwrap over the cap, but not therafresh) then I put the bottle in a plastic bag. They didn't even take it out of the bag. A friend did the same thing but checked a bag, no issues.

You're allowed to bring a bottle of wine per adult person on these types of cruises. What I would do is I would take wine with the screw off lid and replace the white wine with something a lot stronger like vodka or if it was supposed to be a red wine bottle, I would replace the red wine with something darker like bourbon. You can also find the yellow tinted white wine bottles and replace the white wine with tequila. Then you don't have to worry about trying to hide so much as it's a legit bottle of alcohol, they're just not going to open your bottle of alcohol too find out what kind it is. Add a drop of super glue on the lid to make sure it's nice and snug though. A lot of the cafeterias you can get free juice like pineapple juice or orange juice for your liquor needs. It always worked wonderfully. Just have every person going on your cruise do the same thing and you have lots of bottles of liquor at your disposal for those quick shots or fancy mixed drinks.
paigesto@reddit
They ck with a flashlight inspection as to whether the wine bottle is opened.
AndarianDequer117@reddit

Yeah everclear with blue dye would be a pretty solid idea. Add water and you have light blue vodka.
