Do you think secondary schools should keep genders seperate or mix them?

I understand why some schools want to keep genders seperate, but i went to an all boy school and i found that made it worst in alot of ways. In my school, there was an all girls school across the road, so in 6th form we had some girls come over to do subjects their school didnt cover, and vice versa. When a different gendered student came into the school, there would be alot of whistling and barking (?) which did cause many to drop the class out of hatred from being harrassed from alot of the younger years in that school. I find seperating the genders makes the other seem more of a rarity and stand out more when seen, just looking to hear your opinions?
