Whose mom had this?

I remember this sitting on my mom's vanity in the bathroom and she always looked so tanned and bronzed. Anyone still use this?
CherokeeTrailHeather@reddit
My mom didn’t use bottled tanner, she lathered herself up in TANNING OIL and laid out in her plastic ass reclining lawn chair like the bad ass bitch she was.
Wyklar2@reddit
My older sister did this. She might still do this…
AndiPandi_@reddit
Absolutely and I did too!!!
CherokeeTrailHeather@reddit
My cousins and I also took things up a notch and used Afro Sheen. (We grew up along the Gulf Coast)
Malady1607@reddit
My friend's mom did this she laid out in her bikini made sure to undo her top so she wouldn't have a tan line in the back and she basically laid on aluminum foil, rather fancy foil mat
texnchicago@reddit
Wonder where I can get now? Loved that stuff.
Additional-Alps-253@reddit
It's on Amazon
texnchicago@reddit
I got me some thx 👍
AccordingPin1162@reddit
Boomer here. I had that stuff and so did my mom. I might still use it if I could find it. It was the perfect shade.
alwayssearching117@reddit
It seemed to be the perfect shade on everyone. Great stuff!
izzardcrazed@reddit
I think its still available
Patient_Future_9253@reddit
I had to look. Yup, Amazon has it for $27 a bottle
alwayssearching117@reddit
I loved this stuff! I would love to find that and the colorless henna powder in a metal can.
Nugget814@reddit
My mom had this! I wish it was still around, it really was a lovely blush for her and my own skin tone
Additional-Alps-253@reddit
I just checked; Amazon has it. On ebay too but who knows how old those would be.
didirollmyeyesout@reddit
Came out in 1970 so it’s Gen X not boomers
Infinite_stardust@reddit (OP)
Yes, this is my GenX memory of my boomer mother having it. It came out in 1978, I was 7 years old and I didn't wear makeup yet. But YMMV.
Loud_Ad_4515@reddit
I'm with you. I wasn't wearing makeup in elementary school, lol. But mom was wearing this stuff in her late twenties and early thirties, so yeah, mom of GenX kids.
Ill_Ocelot7191@reddit
My children's mother had this.
holybucketsitscrazy@reddit
I see what you did there! 😉
momsthoughts@reddit
I think me and my friends all had it. Ha ha. I'm very fair skin so it wasn't ideal. 😄
PennieTheFold@reddit
Same! I wanted to be able to use it but it was way too dark for my pasty white skin.
duhkey3@reddit
Yup
Butterfly_Cat777@reddit
I had this. It didn't look very good on me. But maybe it was because I was so pale, or maybe I just didn't know how to apply it properly.
AndiPandi_@reddit
To be honest, unless you have an olive complexion it’s going to look orange on you. Trust me. Blue eyed and born blonde, now grey and that stuff was orange on me lol!😂
DaisyDAdair@reddit
I had one that I bought in 1996 on a Holland America ship somewhere in Alaska. Still had it until a few years ago. I have no idea what made me think I needed it; I think I felt bougie and important or something. Like general foods international coffee lol
AndiPandi_@reddit
You made me giggle. I remember being a kid and thinking I was all fancy because my mom let me have some General Foods International Coffee…😂
RemarkableMagazine93@reddit
Gen x here had my own jar and it lasted forever.
WhatWouldKikiDo@reddit
Indian Earth. Oh lordy that stuff got everywhere - but hey, it worked!
lelanicarver@reddit
I had it when it came out, used it for years.
Ravenous_Ute@reddit
Totemkahmen
HighJeanette@reddit
I have some now
Tanyalovesclem@reddit
You unlocked such a memory🥲
NoDiscipline4640@reddit
Mom? I have this. The jar is bottomless, apparently.
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
I use it, and I also had some in the 80s. But now it comes in a compact form and it’s still awesome. I use it very sparingly. The compact I have will probably last for another 30 years.
RomulanWarrior@reddit
Site bookmarked.
Always on the prowl for new old stuff.
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
I’ve had this for a few years now and it seems to act and look the same as I remembered, except that I have the compact form. I use a fluffy paintbrush to apply, which is probably from the late 80s as well (I wash it periodically!)
Key_Acanthisitta2218@reddit
I think the compact was called Terracotta Tan !
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
Mine just says Indian Earth “Pressed Powder”
RedditSkippy@reddit
What is it? Blush?
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
It’s a highly pigmented mineral-style color powder that can be used as blush, bronzer, eye shadow…or whatever you can think of. People used to go nuts with it in the 80s. It came as a finely ground powder in a clay jar. My cousin used to use a cotton ball in the 80s to dab some off the cork top and apply it as blush/eyeshadow. I use a paintbrush very lightly and just use it as eyeshadow.
fifilachat@reddit
Lip color too! Just add a little Vaseline on top for shine.
she_bacon@reddit
I came here to say, "Shit!, me, I am the Mom"...
Dazzling_Fee_3590@reddit
I used this in the 80s and I loved it. I recently bought it online and it’s still wonderful. You can use it for just about all your makeup - even nail polish!
Key_Acanthisitta2218@reddit
Yes ! Wet the nails , dip in the color , apply clear nail polish and wash off residue !
Basic_Marzipan_2171@reddit
OMG, I STILL have one. Inherited from my mom. She had it almost 50 yrs ago. Def not GenX.
Infinite_stardust@reddit (OP)
Indian Earth cosmetics launched in 1978. I was 7 years old. This is my GenX memory of my mom having it. YMMV.
Dazzling_Fee_3590@reddit
I love Indian Earth. I found it online and ordered it. It’s on my dresser right now. ❤️
hattenwheeza@reddit
I'm Genx and had this in HS in 82
Best_Comfortable5221@reddit
I had it!
LightFlaky2329@reddit
Who else spilled this crap and got it all over her bathroom carpet. Yes you read that correctly. Bathroom carpet
Arrr_jai@reddit
Why were all bathrooms carpeted back then? My grandparent's house had carpeted bathrooms and as a kid I would nap in there on the floor because the carpet there was so soft and fluffy. Kids are stupid. I mean, it's grandma's house, so it was probably pretty clean, but adult me is skeeved out that I did that.
Labornurse59@reddit
We had carpeted bathrooms in late 80’s and I remember a “mushroom” that grew overnight behind the toilet! How f’n gross is THAT?! 🤮
yourmomishigh@reddit
To collect the pee and poo misting that happens every time you flush.
LightFlaky2329@reddit
That’s insane 😂
Empty_Divide153@reddit
🙋🏻♀️
Jennyreviews1@reddit
I had this hahaha
AccomplishedIgit@reddit
What was inside?
GreyMom13@reddit
a red-brown bronzing powder you could use for lips, cheeks, eyelids.
AccomplishedIgit@reddit
Just loose powder?
GreyMom13@reddit
yes
Plenty-Cattle9791@reddit
I want some now!
fifilachat@reddit
I got some when I was in hs!
Wrong_Pen6179@reddit
Never saw it before!
Responsible_Jump_669@reddit
It’s all over me just thinking about removing that cork.
HammerSack@reddit
Absolutely! And I had the nightmare of opening one belonging to my friend’s mom out of curiosity. The panic was real.
ancientastronaut2@reddit
My sister had this and used it during her lowrider phase.
RandomBeverly@reddit
Wha do you mean Mom?? I had this!! lol!
momsthoughts@reddit
Same. Ha ha. Of course I remember this.
RomulanWarrior@reddit
Mom had some Avon stuff, but other than that, wasn't a fan.
I remember seeing her mother use cake mascara and dark lipstick.
Witty-Cheek-1639@reddit
Turn 50 on Sunday and actually used this today. I love to tan and use this as blush and eyeshadow. I have wet it and used as lip color and eyeliner before, too! A little goes a very long way!
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
I only use it as eye shadow, pretty much. I’m super porcelain pale and pink toned. I still love Indian Earth though.
Blephotomy@reddit
is that...face dirt?
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
Yes. Pretty face dirt.
rainbowsdarkerside@reddit
I still have the original one my mom bought in the early 80s and, maybe10 years ago, bought a new one to compare. It still works great if you're careful with it. I had been expecting to discover that it contained lead, but apparently it is, and was, safe (though similar products might not be).
worstpartyever@reddit
holy cow, they still make it?
Useful-Badger-4062@reddit
Yes, I use the compact version and it’s still just as amazing.
rainbowsdarkerside@reddit
They do!
ToothpickIntheOcean@reddit
Omg memory unlocked
solitudeismyjam@reddit
I forgot that existed till I saw this! I had it!
PinkyLeopard2922@reddit
You can still get it! https://indianearthcosmetics.com/
italianish13@reddit
Never heard of it 🤔
Auntie_Venom@reddit
Me too! My mom has beautiful olive skin and can get tan taking out the trash at night. So she never used anything like this…
SuckerEMC@reddit
WOW- read their story- about the financial hardship of the original owners based on lack of sales due to the generous amount of product in the jar!! Yet they still sell a giant jar for $25! And it’s obviously a lifetime supply based on these testimonials… 😂
Big_Midnight_6632@reddit
I had it in my early teens. I loved it. If I could find it again, I would probably use it.
smoke2957@reddit
I was just trying to remember what this was called this week. Found it on Amazon!
https://a.co/d/0i6xkeLd
texnchicago@reddit
Thank you!
GreyMom13@reddit
dang it got pricey!
Conscious_Damage8678@reddit
I had it! But I could probably be your mom, so...
Infinite_stardust@reddit (OP)
Lol, not unless you're a boomer. 😉
KitchenManagement650@reddit
Hang on a sec... depends how old you are. I could probably be your mom and am not a boomer. And yup, we had this when I was in my 20s, but I didn't use it - some friends did.
Br00klynBelle@reddit
Not mom. I had this!
KitchenManagement650@reddit
My first college roommate used it ever day. Now I feel old!
Same_Grocery7159@reddit
I'm pretty sure she still does somewhere. Same one from the day.
Select_Dragonfly2667@reddit
Yeah, my mom still has the jar on her vanity. It’s been there for like 40 years!
Specialist-Device-74@reddit
My mom didn't have that. I had that!! How young are you??
Cactusblossom_thg@reddit
Yes - I had that too!
Infinite_stardust@reddit (OP)
Lol, I looked it up and it came out in 1978. I was 7 years old and apparently my mom was an OG avid user because it was omnipresent during my formative years 🤣.
redrumham707@reddit
In the 70s I remember the sunless tanning lotion that would turn you orange. Then in the mid to late 80 s they made better versions of it and we used that stuff too. Anything to not be pasty white in the winter.
redrumham707@reddit
Me too! It didn’t work so well of you were wearing a light colored turtle neck. It stained visibly. Kind of embarrassing.
Academic_Rutabaga649@reddit

Unlikely_Tea_2038@reddit
Wow. I had completely forgotten about this. I remember stamping brown circles all over my face!
Optimal-Ad-7074@reddit
😂😂😂
CoastRooted@reddit
Omg. YES!!! I coveted this!!!
Optimal-Ad-7074@reddit
me too. never get into makeup but the was so beglamoured by the idea of this.
Necessary-Film7832@reddit
My mom and I both had it. One of us met one of their representatives and he gave us both one. They literally last forever. That was my first dive into natural makeup which I've been wearing ever since. I still love mineral makeup to this day!
Jeannette311@reddit
My mom used this! This and oil of olay!
Conscious_Damage8678@reddit
There is NOTHING like original pink Oil of Olay. I wish they'd bring it back.
Ill_Ocelot7191@reddit
I still use it.
LeftCryptographer522@reddit
Wow, seeing this just unlocked a 1985 memory of my dad...I was home for the first time after moving away for college, and instead of saying, "I missed you!", my greatest generation dad said with a big smile, "Well I certainly miss hearing the tap tap tap coming from your bathroom every morning!" That sound was from me tapping excess Indian Earth off my brush before applying it! I miss you too Daddy 0
Tejanisima@reddit
My dad used to drive me to school a lot after we moved into a new house 1.5mi from my high school, and because I've always been a night owl, I would be putting on my makeup while sitting in the passenger seat. He constantly had to remind me not to blow on my blush brush to get the excess off because it was going to land on his dashboard. Years later he told me he almost missed that little ritual now that I was older. 🥰
doubleohzerooo0@reddit
Dark skinned Hispanic here...
Never seen this.
Conscious_Damage8678@reddit
From the 80s.
Careless_Set2268@reddit
My mom preferred to lay out and get bronzed. She only wore some sparse mascara and eye shadow. Cut to years later when she had cancerous growths that had to be removed from her face 😭
CrazyCatMadame1@reddit
What is this? 1970 here. I’ve never heard of it. Apparently my mom didn’t use it. 😆
Inessence4@reddit
Me neither. Not even aware of them from magazine ads.
pkgriff@reddit
I had it!
TypePuzzleheaded6228@reddit
😂😂😂i had that!!!
gamegrrl@reddit
I did, too!
MaybeResponsible4290@reddit
Same, I had that!
hnybun128@reddit
I’m 50 and have never seen this before.
Chance-Ad-247@reddit
He'll, not my mom, ME - anyone who grew up in the 60s and 70s used this.
Signal_Reputation640@reddit
That's what I thought. OP must be well on the young side of GenX.
AgapeLv@reddit
Good grief. I read this as “Who’s mom IS this?” and figured that was a very…interesting…way to describe mom in an urn.
Disastrous-Style-461@reddit
Omg! You Just busted open a neural pathway big time! lol.
New-Reality6239@reddit
I had it when I was in high school. It was a very popular Christmas gift.
k8freed@reddit
She did until I spilled it all over the bathroom floor.
Infamous-Art5608@reddit
l had it and dropped the jar on a tile floor, took weeks to get it out of the grout.
BeamMeUpSpotty@reddit
How long until that stain faded?
Toria165@reddit
Was that the first bronzer?! I remember it, I think every girl in this country had it! That beautiful orange glowing skin looked bomb with that ‘Sun In’ orange hair!🤣🤣
Infinite_stardust@reddit (OP)
Aw man, that Sun In orange! Looked super rad with my perm 🤣
tallCircle1362@reddit
I wanted to love it, but it made my skin orange.
AurorasCastle630@reddit
My Mom did and I borrowed it all the time as a kid! They still sell it on the Vermont Country Store website!
marigoldsandviolets@reddit
My mom, hell! I had this and loved it!
Maddie215@reddit
I almost got this on a 1999 cruise.
JaxBoltsGirl@reddit
I got this in 2015 on a cruise. And took it back as soon as I put it on my face.
Responsible_Jump_669@reddit
Indian Earth. Wowzers.
Neat_Ad_3268@reddit
Not mine, but my mom used to suck her teeth at the pearl cream lady🤭
dazylynn@reddit
Pearl Drops Tooth Polish! My teeth never felt so smooth.
BeamMeUpSpotty@reddit
No lie, I miss Pearl Drops. As a young woman (more than 5 years ago), I would use it in the morning and then Colgate at night.
flyingfish_roe@reddit
Oh, the Pearl Cream Lady! She came on after the Ginsu knives!
Key-Subject8959@reddit
I remember that! I always wanted to try it!
allmykitlets@reddit
Not my mom, me. I still have a jar of it.
Confident-Doughnut68@reddit
Oh my gosh you just opened up a memory for me! My mom definitely had this and she was so GLAMOROUS when she got dressed up to go out
Mobile-Piel@reddit
Wasn't it just loose bronzer? I remember seeing the magazine ad and thinking how sophisticated the art design was to not even tell me what it really was ...
worstpartyever@reddit
Indeed, loose bronzer.... in a single color. So many people looked so bad because there was only one shade.
Mobile-Piel@reddit
And this was before we figured out how to be more subtle with our makeup application 😂😂😂
Komaisnotsalty@reddit
My mom was way too white Evangelical to have something 'weird' like this. This would have flagged on her 'exotic' radar and been determined to contain a demon.
...nope, not joking.
Natre33@reddit
I believe you! Had a friend whose Mom was that way too.
Legitimate-Dot9908@reddit
I wore this once as a teenager, saw myself in sunlight and was horrified!! Never again

postprandialrepose@reddit
Some people undoubtedly tried to use it as lube.
postprandialrepose@reddit
Some people undoubtedly tried to use it as lube.
Edit: And given the downvotes, it seems some are actually still using it as lube. Smart.
JustFaithlessness178@reddit
Wow! In a million years I wouldn't have remembered this. I think my mom and I both tried it!
BeigeSugar@reddit
I found my mom’s a few months ago and it’s still pretty full!
Infinite_stardust@reddit (OP)
Lol, that's awesome!
PBRStreetgang1979@reddit
This product probably did more to lighten your wallet than improve your face, which is probably true of most cosmetics.
SilentRaindrops@reddit
It wasn't meant to and there were no claims of improved skin. It was a bronzer. I guess you could say it may have helped people prevent some skin damage as women may have used this instead of sitting in the sun to tan.
Legitimate_Egg_2073@reddit
Once you have inadvertently spilled this all over mom’s vanity table there is no amount of tissues possible to wipe it up. It just smears in wider and wider circles
Neat_Ad_3268@reddit
Ptsd fir real. m feeling that panic. But you're here🥰

I was on a cruise a couple of years ago and the spa was selling this.
