I've been trying to learn more about nods by just reading everything I can before buying one. Do all new units have black dots in them and are only considered blem units if there are big blobs? Just looks like all the pictures have at least 1 or 2 dots in them.

KJA primarily deals in Fed/Leo department used tube pickups, that’s why they are able to price a bit lower than most other venders. It’s also why there are more blems than you will see with new tubes. Not every new tube has blems, but they are super easy to acquire in the mfg process so many do. Blems are broken up by size & placement when assessed for sale, you will see them scored as # of blems in zone 1 (center) zone 2 (ring outside center) & zone 3 (outer ring).

Ahh, that makes a bit more sense! Was thinking these were new at first and all new tubes were like that. Although if some new tubes still have them that is a bummer. Thanks

These are new tubes from the factory, most commercial tubes have some sort of manufacturing defect and for these it’s the spots

The majority of tubes will have some sort of spot. It’s really comes down to a balance between specs, spots and price.
For the majority of buyers, higher SNR/FOM units are preferred over completely flawless units when factoring in price. Most spots will disappear or become quickly forgotten under regular use.

No, you just stop noticing them when you get outside and start doing things.
Spots are permanent parts of the manufacturing process and are very normal. Blems are caused by damage/bright lights and can sometimes be fixed/sometimes can’t
