How frequent do you like your paychecks (Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly)?

I loved weekly and bi-weekly when i was working in retail / agency, but now im on a salary paid monthly which has took some getting used too + im too lazy to contact my direct debits to get them to come out the first of the month.
When we were moving into a flat weekly was amazing though, having that paycheck every week to put into the flat was superb.

Every two weeks was good in one old job as it meant money kept coming in. No issues with long/short months or paydays being the Monday after a weekend. I knew every other Friday it dropped into my account. Only thing is it meant keeping an eye on levels so bills got paid but I also spread them out rather than all being paid 1st of the month.
NoStoryTerritory@reddit
Don't really care that much - it's the same amount in my bank account in the end.
Polz34@reddit
Other than the jobs I had pre-18 I've always been paid monthly, so just used to it!
YchYFi@reddit
I used to get paid weekly in Greggs.
I have them at the end of the month now. Don't get a choice in the matter.
Bossman_Mike@reddit
I was paid weekly on summer temp jobs around 20 years ago, but every "proper" job I've had has been monthly. Monthly works just fine for me.
EnigmaMissing@reddit
Only ever been paid monthly, but I think I'd prefer fortnightly tbh. That last week and a bit every month is sometimes a little too squeaky
mhoulden@reddit
Last working day of the month for me, although if it's a Monday it often comes on the Friday before instead. I'd like to get that amount paid weekly though.
Quiet-Rabbit-524@reddit
Bi-weekly means twice a week, not fortnightly as I assume you mean
Wait-Whos-Joe@reddit (OP)
It means both tbf but yes i see the confusion
Opening_Succotash_95@reddit
Only to Americans. Fortnightly is what we say here
Street-Persimmon8492@reddit
In English language it can mean either. Context makes it pretty obvious
AshamedAttention727@reddit
Ahem, we don't do context here on reddit
Jeoh@reddit
Who's 'we'? Biweekly can mean both every two weeks or twice a week according to the Oxford English Dictionary. And the Cambridge Dictionary, but we don't care about them.
susolover@reddit
Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con - the simpsons did it first, is it 2 a month or 1 every 2 months.
FreshMontrealer12@reddit
I get paid ‘bi-weekly’ (titled like this) and it’s every two weeks
AshamedAttention727@reddit
So bi-weekly is every Wednesday and Sunday?
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
Monthly. Direct debits come out a few days after payday. Then the remaining money in the account is fair game.
Historical_Cobbler@reddit
I’d love to be paid annually, would unlock so much more for me.
Pay monthly bills annually and save some money on interest, pay for a holiday and then it’d be so easy to not waste money if you’ve already got everything planned out.
But I’ve been monthly for like 20 years, it comes in 2 days before everything goes out.
Alert_Mine7067@reddit
I've had them all,
I get paid monthly on the last working day of the month, I prefer it this way as the first working day of the month is my direct debit date, what's left a day after I get paid is mine. I like this because it's easier to manage bills and dispose income.
I was paid 4 weekly in my last job, it was trickier as your pay was could fall at the start, middle and end of the month, sometimes you were paid twice a month. The advantage of this that you got 13 payments a year instead of 12, so with my direct debit payments, over 12 months I collectively had a pay period where I didn't need to pay any bills, although there was less pay with 4 weekly Vs monthly.
My first job was paid fortnightly, I pissed away my money in a week.
I was paid weekly in another job and this was at 19 and a student, so it was handy back then, I would have my head cooked trying to budget a month's bills with weekly pay.
Icy-Belt-8519@reddit
I like monthly, but really it's weekly but different amounts
We get pip, child benefit, uc and wages, uc and child benefit is pretty low but it's there when we need to scrape to payday 😂
Weekly was awkward, last time I was paid weekly I had post natal depression, monthly bills plus depression and weekly pay ans a newborn, it just didn't work, I could cognitivly put bills aside, just didn't work
The worst was student finance, luckily I was mature student so my partners wage too, but being paid every 10 weeks is was so awkward
FreshMontrealer12@reddit
Volkswagen approved me a brand new polo on my student finance because of how it dropped - I was working as well but I was chuffed at the time. As a proper adult now, was probably a bad decision 😂
Dissidant@reddit
Couple days upon completion of work as am self employed, although its usually not much as I don't do large projects anymore the materials do come out of my end and the client has plenty of notice
Under an employer beyond the first month or so I was generally not arsed, as budget decent for everything going out
mrggy@reddit
I prefer monthly. It makes budgeting easier because most of my bills are monthly
DigitalStefan@reddit
Can’t remember the last time I was paid weekly. Probably when I was temping, which was probably 11 years ago.
Monthly is best. None of my bills are weekly or fortnightly and the ones that aren’t monthly are either every 6 months or annually.
girlsunderpressure@reddit
I used to get paid weekly when I was temping and it was great.
Mr-Incy@reddit
I have been on monthly pay for over 20 years, I have changed jobs a couple of times which has meant pay day has shifted each time, from 15th to 21st and now 25th.
I did have all my direct debits coming out the day after payday when I first went on monthly pay, but now they are all over the month, just depends on what day I set them up.
Legitimate-Leg-4720@reddit
I have a buffer so feels like it doesn't really matter to me when I get paid, even though I earn pretty low
Intelligent-Tap-7834@reddit
My husband used to get paid weekly and me monthly and it was so much more manageable. I would pay the bills and his would be spending money for us.
Now he gets paid monthly I put our bills into one account and split the rest in four and transfer it in to our main account every Sunday. It’s much more manageable.
peepooplop@reddit
Weekly is best in my experience.
Aggravating_Cloud657@reddit
Who gets paid twice a week?!
I'm happy with monthly.
FreshMontrealer12@reddit
I think they mean bi-weekly as in fortnightly 😅
Luggagespider@reddit
Fortnightly?
Embarrassed-Art-5076@reddit
every two weeks
Nevernonethewiser@reddit
I always found weekly to be a small amount too often. Very easy to spend it too fast.
Fortnightly was decent because I could budget to make sure my bills were always covered at the end of the month.
Monthly is good too. I prefer monthly. Easier to save a bigger chunk, it just feels like it's less available, if that makes sense.
DeadlyTeaParty@reddit
I get paid weekly. 🙌 Permanent full-time job.
I've only ever had one job that paid monthly.
scequecat@reddit
Used to prefer weekly but I think it encourages overspending, cause I think 'oh it's fine I'll get paid again in a few days', so it's probably best I'm on monthly now. Still skint though
tootom@reddit
Only ever been paid monthly. When people are ok off, it's fine. I kind of think having it the same frequency as big expenses (rent etc) does make sense.
