What holidays/travel are you planning and how will they be impacted by the Iran conflict?

Just considering booking a holiday for the summer (ideally overseas) but wonder if it's a risk booking now with news of fuel shortages/flight cancellations etc.

Going to the USA and the Med.. neither is impacted since the flights are already paid up.

My holidays from the UK are by rail so not too worried about those. I do have a work trip to Japan planned and I'm rather worried about that being disrupted, to be honest. It was also very expensive but fortunately I'm not the one paying. Norway, too, but if I really need to get there by train then I can.

If your worried about cancellations, book though a proper travel agency. Make sure it's not just a website it needs to be accredited.
It does not cost that much more some times is cheaper if your booking in a sale.
For me I am wired about my December emerates flights to thiland. Not sure even in December it's a good ideat. I am hoping to move then it canceled them and get the maximum amount of money back so I can fly air Franc or KLM as that routing is much less likely to be effected.

Yeah, book the holiday. If the flight gets cancelled, you'll be refunded. Just stick to the busy routes and popular destinations as those are less likely to be cancelled.
Doomergeneration@reddit
The problem isn’t the flights being refunded, it’s all the accommodation and other stuff if booked separately
OPGR1234@reddit
Just don’t book accommodation in advance. With tourism dropping you will find much better deals when you’re there.
Cultural_Tank_6947@reddit
Package holidays exist, as do refundable hotel, airport parking, car hire and excursion bookings.
horseradish_smoothie@reddit
You'll get everything refunded it you buy an ABTA protected holiday package. It's just the risk you take when you book everything separately.

I was planning to fly to Australia to see a mate, originally flights were going via Qatar.
Had to rebook for nearly double the price to go via Singapore.
Once in a lifetime trip that we had already planned all the details of and booked a lot of activities, so I was willing to spend the money, but it stung a lot.

I'm looking at Australia next March, too soon to book, but hoping it will be done by then qnd prices might come down a little

This war is only going to escalate

We had exactly the same thing, flying to Aus and then on to Fiji. Got refunded for the flights through Qatar but the Singapore flights were so expensive and obviously they needed to be booked before we got the refund through. Trip was worth it though!

I had return flights between London to Singapore via Bahrain mid May to spend time in Indonesia as well with my LDGF for her birthday. My girlfriend was flying from Riga - Tokyo - Singapore so she was unaffected a couple weeks into the war I booked a new flight direct to Singapore because it was evident Bahrain will be hit hard and just last week I finally got confirmation that my original flights were cancelled and thankfully booked new ones.
Coming back now is from Indonesia - London via Abu Dhabi and tbh if I get stuck in Abu Dhabi I would be happy to spend a month or so there as my aunty has the fattest house I’ve ever stayed in. 1 month of just gym / good food / hot weather and a luxury house with my own driver and maid will be amazing even if the occasional drone flies overhead

I’m flying from Ottawa to London via Lufthansa in September 😳 I’m a little worried since I heard they are cancelling 20,000 flights ( short ones ) until October. I had to book hotels like 8 months ago… I’m going to wait until August and make a decision then 🤞🏻🙏😭
ChaiSlytherin@reddit
Not a holiday but my volunteering trip to Egypt keeps being postponed, and we'll see how the flight situation goes when I get solid dates

Booked to Benidorm in August with my teenage son and Naples in October with the missus. Glad I booked before all this nonsense kicked off. Who knows whether I’ll get my holidays or not.

I'm in Japan and my mother just died, so I have to fly back next week.
Lots of flights are either cancelled or sold out. A direct flight is really expensive.
So...I'm doing a transfer in Qatar. About 120 miles from Iran, and 30 miles from an American air base...
Difficult-Salary7021@reddit (OP)
Sorry for your loss, hope you are okay.
apeliott@reddit
I'm good, thanks. Can't say I'm looking forward to it though.

I booked a few days in Mallorca in a couple of weeks. I've only booked the flights and accommodation so far. If it's cancelled, I'm covered.
Zealousideal-Habit82@reddit
Off to Turkey in a few weeks then again in September and Egypt in November so far, might try and get some Spanish trips booked in. Not concerned at all about Iran I'm too long in the tooth now to worry about most things, just get on with living your life, what will be will be.
