Single 5090 vs dual 5080s

I'm looking to build a PC for both resource intensive gaming and also a lot of 3d modelling/ rendering and animation.
I am wondering how a single 5090 on a PCIE 5.0x16 compares to dual 5080s on a PCIE 5.0 x8/x8, especially for my use case.

Thanks all! It seems to be unanimous that the single 5090 is the way to go! Appreciate the help!

You need to decide what exact software you will use and ask on a forum or subreddit dedicated to it.

Dual 5090s are better

Get rtx pro 6000 if your are looking for resource intensive work and gaming
Yes you can use nvidia game driver for rtx 6k pro for gaming.

Just get a 5090. Don't bother with a dual gpu config.

For gaming, having two GPUs is useless. Modern games can't make use of more than one GPU.
Do you know if the specific 3D rendering software you use can distribute workloads across multiple GPUs?

I use blender. So yes, the load can be distributed on multiple gpus

More power for dual 5080 investment almost the same getting a 5090 if ya can . If am in the same boat i actually have 2 5080 but tired of playing a round with a dual gpu setup just decided to pay the 3200 for a 5090

You'd have to look up benchmarks for whatever professional software you use and compare that way.

vram is not additive, and that's the big selling point for workstation use of the 5090
