I visited the new Apple Computer Museum in Utrecht, The Netherlands

I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking. This is the newly opened Apple Museum in Utrecht. It’s a very well thought out museum experience, with a good mix of history, plenty of models and some interactivity. The museum guides you through every Apple period. I got the opportunity to chat for a while with the founder (who owns an Apple retailstore chain) and the curator, which was fun! The museum apparently consists of about 10% of the founders personal Apple collection, but felt very complete to me.
The museum is a great (and the most professional) addition to the growing line-up of dutch electronics museums like The Home Computer Museum (Helmond), the Philips Museum and Evoluon (Eindhoven), Bonami (Zwolle) and the Dutch Pinball Museum (Rotterdam). And let’s not forget the Heinz Nixdorf Museum in Paderborn, Germany.
Anyway, highly recommended if you ever visit my home country. I’d also recommend all other museums mentioned :)

Did Jerry actually make reference to his 20th anniversary Mac or was it pure product placement in the early days with no reference at all other than it being on the set?

Jerry is shown sitting in front of the computer briefly in the season nine episode titled "The Strong Box."

Oh it’s shown many more times than that. I’m asking if he actually ever referred to it or used it.

It was product placement. He had a Macintosh before that which I believe he used shortly on the show once.

I was... Mac-adjacent, back in the PowerPC era. And I wanted one of those 20th Anniversary Macs so bad.

My coworker in 1985 had a new Mac. Was very proud for almost a month. Then it went in to a repair shop. That convinced me to steer to the MS PC side.

Do they have a "Lisa" on display there?
poopyra@reddit
Those old monitors make my eyes hurt just looking at them
macabees@reddit
Nobody mentioned the Apple Lisa with the Twiggy drives, very rare, very expensive. Last time I saw one for sale it was $25000.

They are dilettantes. That was the first thing I noticed.

I still think the IIc is one of the most beautifully designed computers I’ve ever seen — a roommate had one in college & I had the IIe … his just seemed so sleek & cool compared to mine

Agreed!

I lived in the Netherlands for 2 years, went to Utrecht all the time. I never knew this was there. I did see the Girl with the Pearl Earring in Den Haag.
Henq13@reddit
Opened April 2026, so it wasn’t there at that time 😉
No-Succotash-9576@reddit
how are there so many iMac G3s in one place?
kirks2@reddit
The IIc in the first pic is set up wrong. The keyboard goes just below the monitor. I think a company called Frog Design won an award for this design.
skeletorsrick@reddit
do they know the display for the first picture is wrong? the //c slides under the display. source: we had one.
thebahle@reddit
My first thought too, kinda sloppy for a “museum”
lw5555@reddit
That IIc display is fantastic. I love the wall.
AllReflection@reddit
The IIc should be wedged inside the monitor stand, not under it
RenderedMeat@reddit
Yeah that really bothered me. You don’t cover up the vents with the monitor stand.
PortableGeneration@reddit
It likely doesn’t turn on.
skeletorsrick@reddit
same!
lw5555@reddit
I mean the one where it's sitting on the desk.
RO4DHOG@reddit
Without the Apple ][+ they're missing the origins of the company.
With nothing powered on, it's a graveyard.
Steelejoe@reddit
OMG the Beneton Mac! I remember lusting after that when it came out. I should 3D print a case like that for my 540C. Great pics!

Jobs good 🍏
bijzonderzaadje@reddit
What? I live in Utrecht for almost 20 years and never heard of this until today
hotdogsoupnl@reddit
Did they display the original Apple Polishing Cloth?
blakespot@reddit
The screen & stand placement of the Apple //c's display has killed a part of me. Part of me has withered and died.
ABeardHelps@reddit
Wow, that is really impressive and a nice trip down memory lane.
inquirewue@reddit
Looks like my house lol.
nmrk@reddit
OMG pic 5 is a Knowledge Navigator!! It has to be a prop from the video.
TheAmazingWJV@reddit (OP)
I asked about that! It’s one of four replica’s made by an italian apple museum (I’m guessing the one called All About Apple). They’re keeping two replica’s, and I believe one is going to the USA (maybe CHM?).
dracelectrolux@reddit
The netherstand situation needs attention. That poor //c.
EsoTechTrix@reddit
That really is one of those things where you know the curator has done zero research. 😬
Damn kids.
roy-dam-mercer@reddit
It’s giving me extreme anxiety.
nix206@reddit
Agreed!
Dear Museum: the //c’s monitor stand tucks under the computer, proving a little extra lift. It does not sit on top of it - blocking air flow.
leadedsolder@reddit
That's cool. Utrecht was one of my favourite towns when I visited.
titanioverde@reddit
Well, time for another visit to NL. Save me some gouda wheels, please!
Luca__B@reddit
criminals...
ybot73@reddit
It looks really nice. I need to head down there and check it out.
spookyxelectric@reddit
Man, I love those original teal iMacs. Also of course, love the Lisa. Wish I had one of those.
