Correct-Thanks3679@reddit
Some people over in the AMG subreddit think the non-mythos version (assuming there is one) won't be available until 2028.
If the non-mythos price is anything over 105k MSRP starting I'll probably pass. The current v6 53s start at like 76k MSRP. That is just way too big of a jump for a v8, especially if it's near 150k like the article thinks. Which sucks because the C AMGs look so much better than the M/RS cars, imo. Always wanted a v8 c63 amg for 100k or less but i don't think that'll ever happen unless i buy one of the older models.
Dirtybird86@reddit
Look at a new AMG GT. The 43’s are being listed for around $120k, 55’s $150k, 63’s $200k. If this is any indication of a possible starting price, it’s probably going to be well above $105k.
Correct-Thanks3679@reddit
damn :( hoping for a v6 c53 amg then, my last was an rs5 so not interested in that, prob just gonna get an M3 since they supposedly fix that front grill in MY 2027+...we'll see.
YaBoiRoosevelt@reddit
Not sure I trust this 30 car number, makes no sense to pour so much time and money into R&D, production and marketing for a max possible revenue of $6 mil
jrileyy229@reddit
It's not a new car from the ground up... It's just hodge podging things they already have basically
YaBoiRoosevelt@reddit
Yeah from what I understand it mainly just sticking their new flatplane v8 into the cle53, but the costs of that + marketing are still gonna exceed the revenues from selling only 30 cars at 200K
jrileyy229@reddit
Not really much marketing to be done... They'll have some YouTubers drive one but they'll all be sold before that. Numbers make sense to me... It doesn't cost all that much to put it in... The giant profit margin in it will outweigh the maybe million bucks they spent in engineering... Which is really just testing. They already know what is required to put what powertrain in what car... It's all digital
narwhal_breeder@reddit
That would be true if all they had to do was put the engine in it - and there were no regulatory costs of introducing a new model variant. It costs tens of millions to both certify and crash test a major variant (and different engines constitute a new variant). EPA + CARB certification of a model with an existing engine is \~$2M-$8M alone.
Its why car companies don't bring wagons into the US, even though they already have the car being produced for other markets. The cost of certifying it for sale would cost more than they would ever make selling it here.
jrileyy229@reddit
You're assuming they're building these for the US market...
Glaesilegur@reddit
It would make more sense if it was US market exclusive exactly because of the looser regulations.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
It’s not free to certify in the EU either. It’s usually more expensive.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
The Mythos is alleged to be limited to 30. Not a regular production one.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Mercedes hasn't confirmed there will be a regular production one. The Mythos may be the only V8 CLE63.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
I didn’t imply there was a regular production one…? I said à regular production one wasn’t confirmned to be limited to 30 units.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Saying a regular production one isn't limited to 30 units implies the existence of a regular production one.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
I disagree but feel free to think that brother.
IsTheShibaInU@reddit
You can disagree all you want, but English is English, and you're not very good at it, brother.
MrReadilyUnready@reddit
They're going to build a regular CLE63 too. This is effectively just a Black Series of that.
bc10551@reddit
A regular cle63 probably going to easily be over 100k though given the cle53 already starts at 76k
Mochashaft@reddit
They’re talking about the mythos, which is just the first limited run one. There will be a “regular” CLE63 that follows shortly after
ScienceMechEng_Lover@reddit
Bruh. At that point, just get an M3/4. The only thing the CLE has over the BMW G8X is that it doesn't look hideous.
JackTwoGuns@reddit
Going to be much faster than the M3 I would imagine. A twin turbo AMG V8
rosd0@reddit
No way. The M3/M4 is stupid fast. The Wagon M3 is faster than RS6 / E63 S.
Dav_Dabz@reddit
I mean. The M3 wagon is in a smaller class than the RS6, it's also about 800lbs light. I would hope it's faster lol
BoofMasterQuan2@reddit
You would hope it’s faster than a much more expensive car a class above? Lmfao
cubs223425@reddit
Yes, because it's designed with that advantage in mind. The RS6, however, is designed to be more roomy and comfortable.
BoofMasterQuan2@reddit
Weird, I thought a RS6 was designed to go fast
Glaesilegur@reddit
Is your entire life in black and white as well?
Dav_Dabz@reddit
Considering the M3 Wagon is about 500hp with 3.0s 0-60 And the RS6 is at 600hp with a 3.3s 0-60. Yeah. That 800lbs makes a difference. I wouldn't have compared them if they were the same weight....
BoofMasterQuan2@reddit
Just because it’s true doesn’t make it okay
Dav_Dabz@reddit
Got it. I'll lie next time. 🤙
_BEER_@reddit
A CLE is also another class than a M4, its more like an 8 series.
Mochashaft@reddit
The CLE is definitely not an 8 series equivalent at all. It’s far far smaller. It’s almost directly pointed at the 4 series, landing just slightly above it.
_BEER_@reddit
Really? I always thought it was about 8 series sized. Good to know.
Mochashaft@reddit
Smaller was the wrong choice of word. They’re all about 190 inches including the 4 series. But they still aren’t in the same class. The 8 is(or was, it’s dead now) the top of the range, where the cle sits as a combination of E and C class coupes.
Dav_Dabz@reddit
I thought it was the inbetween replacement to cover both the E and S class coupe?
Mochashaft@reddit
Rung down, it’s between the old c coupe and e coupe
Armored_Guardian@reddit
I mean. The Miata is in a smaller class than the 911, it’s also about 800lbs lighter. I would hope it’s faster lol
Dav_Dabz@reddit
The Miata isn't in the same power range nor 0-60 time as a 911... It would need another 100hp minimum to be a comparable example ._.
Armored_Guardian@reddit
Exactly. Weight is not the only factor
narwhal_breeder@reddit
The CLE53 is already 600lbs heavier than an M4 Comp XDrive, a 63 variant would be even heavier.
Attainted@reddit
V8 AMGs typically have been more of a luxury muscle car than ideal track cars. Except for some of the GTs. So faster in a line sure, faster on the track depends.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Weight also affects straight line acceleration. The CLE63 will need a lot of power to match the straight line of an M4 xDrive.
carguymt@reddit
I don't think there's any way it's faster than an M3. xDrive versions get to 60 in around 2.8 seconds.
Umbra427@reddit
30 cars? This is a complete and utter non-event lmao. Way less of these than Ferrari made F40’s.
Training-Expert5598@reddit
It's gonna be a Black. They've been discussing bringing that back for a couple years on the AMG forums. Supposed to be a CLE, SL, and a GLC. Not gonna lie, a GLC with a track setup would be hilarious on par with the AMG minivan back in the day.
MrReadilyUnready@reddit
It's a successor to the C63 Black Series, but even more limited. I'm sure all allocations are already accounted for.
bakedvoltage@reddit
30 car production run? 99% of M4 owners won’t even consider this a cross shop option
EarthOk2418@reddit
That’s even less than the 50 M4-based 3.0 CSLs BMW made in 2023.
solo118@reddit
30 car limited run, they will sell every damn one of them just because collectors will want them
NISMO1968@reddit (OP)
Yeah, except for the looks…
TangerineBroad4604@reddit
That's what the next sentence you quoted says, yes
Ok_Combination_4482@reddit
Are we pretneding looks dont matter?
Bees_to_the_wall@reddit
The looks and also it's not a shitty BMW
Energy4Days@reddit
Basically the black series of the modern era
SeahawksFanSince1995@reddit
I miss my C63, had to get rid of it after I married my wife (only had one parking space at my condo), but now that we have a house and two garage spaces, a new coupe might be in the cards.
TerribleNameAmirite@reddit
E63S wagon time
Training-Expert5598@reddit
I had to get rid of mine when I got divorced. Marriage sucks on both ends. Lol
Montague-Withnail@reddit
Just buy a really good example of a used C204 or C205 C63 if you miss your C63 that much.
I guarantee it'll be a more gratifying experience, and more financially sound than buying a new one...
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
You probably need to get one ASAP because we could see luxury coupe disappearing in car market in future one day.
Audi and Lexus have given up and now follow Caddy and Infiniti, just only offer you sedan. The sales in CLE isn’t considered great, I don’t think Merc would keep it.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
The CLE53 is right at 4,450lbs. Lets assume the CLE63 picks up 200lbs to get a V8.
Just to match the power/weight ratio of an M4 Comp XDrive, that hypothetical CLE63 would need at least 630 horsepower.
SnikySquirrel@reddit
I mean, 630 horsepower seems very doable.
TotalEmployment9996@reddit
They were already doing that with the 4.0 biturbo that they were putting in everything. Pretty sure Aston used a variant with like 800hp lol
thekhaos@reddit
Mercedes has lost the plot. They need more C63s like failures to learn from their mistakes
Fiveby21@reddit
Cool, now can they make the seats actually feel comfortable?
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Best I can do is 3lb, 14 inch wide carbon buckets with 1mm of foam padding in a car that weighs 5000lbs.
costafilh0@reddit
Mild hybrid? Sure.
Plug-in hybrid? Hell no.
It would mean a 3ton car.
cerberaspeedtwelve@reddit
A long while back, I owned a model year 2000 CL500. I would like to express my amazement that the CL has made it this far into the 21st century. Even back then, with sedans still relatively popular, it was a very fringe car. In five years of ownership I saw perhaps three other examples on the road. We were so astonished when we saw each other that we waved.
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
I can only wish that the S-Class Coupe/CL-Class returns one day, but I wouldn't put too much hope into that idea.
MrReadilyUnready@reddit
This is a CLE, not CL. The final car in the CL lineage was the S Class coupe which got canned in 2021.
