2016 Honda Jazz 1.2l CVT is it really that bad?

Hi guys I'm looking at buying my first car and you guys seem pretty knowledgeable
I'll cut to the chase. I live in Capetown South Africa for those of you who don't know it has some of the worst traffic in the world (no joke, bad public transport = everyone on the road)
I'm looking at buying a 2016 Honda jazz CVT and I've been reading very mixed information about CVTs they catch a lot of hate because of Nissan rolling them our prematurely and their frequent service intervals. However I really like the honda jazz and because of the traffic here I wouldn't mind an automatic (don't get me wrong I prefer manual but not in the traffic here)
This car in particular was driven by an old lady from New I'm checking it out tomorrow and will get all the info, I know what I must look for/ ask
What I'd really like to hear is about the honda jazz specific cvt and how it's cost of ownership actually compares to other comparable cars, weather the fuel economy is worth the tradeoff considering how expensive fuel is becoming. If anyone has personal experience with honda cvts. Last but not least how realistic is it actually that the cvt would have some sort of catastrophic failure resulting in the entire transmission being replaced despite proper maintenance
Thank you guys excuse me if I'm mistaken at all or used the wrong jargon I'm not the most knowledgeable on the topic 😂
For a little extra info I was very set on looking for a car like a mazda 2 or mazda 3 manual and that's my first picks but I'm really struggling to find any in my city that I can afford that aren't driven into the ground
I'm a 21 male I commute daily for work so fuel economy is important to me and ofcourse I'd love a sportier feel but at this time it makes more sense to go for something cost efficient and safe rather than something that guzzles fuel but is fun to drive also you can't really drive fast because its bumper to bumper 90% of the time here

I can’t speak to the engine, I didn’t even know Honda made a 1.2 but as someone who has actually managed to blow a honda cvt I would say they are very reliable. Yes CVTs will never be as robust as torque converter automatics but they can still be durable under certain conditions. Like when paired to such a tiny motor. Like every trans, it needs routine maintenance. Nissan is responsible for bad CVT reputation, but it’s really because their cvt design wasn’t that great to begin with and they didn’t just pair it to tiny motors they paired it to V6s and 2.0ts. Your 1.2 CVT combo will likely be extremely reliable and fuel efficient.

Just curious what did you do that led to your cvt blowing and what model was the car?

The previous owner seriously neglected the CVT fluid, and I had a pretty heavy foot while also not allowing it to get up to temp often. Pretty stupid but I was just a little ignorant. It still endured for a long time given the circumstances. Unless you think you’re gonna have an urge to go fast, shouldn’t be any issues

Thx good to know! The 1.2l and 1.5l options are available here in south africa as apposed to the 1.3l in Europe I believe
