Upgrading my trusty 2080S

I have three options now and don't know what to choose. I don't need super high graphics, but I do have 1440p 144hz monitor.
RTX 4070 400€
RTX 4070 Super 450€
RX 7800 XT 350€
I don't care about ray tracing, but I am wondering if frame generation on Nvidia cards would offer better future proofing? Or is less Vram that much of a deal breaker that I should get RX 7800?
Also the saved money could go towards bigger ssd if i bought the RX 7800 (Now some of games are still installed on mechanical drive and not ssd)

I like what the other guy said, 7800 XT
Also its mind boggling that you list the 3 graphics cards youre looking at and available and people are still telling you options that aren't on the list.

Thanks for the reply. I play games like 2h/ week so it is not like I need even this upgrade let alone sinking +500€ to gpu that barely gets used. Just quality of a life improvement that when I am gaming I want it to be +60fps with medium or higher settings at 1440p

The SSD upgrade will be a small quality of life kinda upgrade. Plus most newer games are requiring SDDs. Spend less and improve overall efficiency over raw graphics. There's more to gaming than just a powerful graphics card.
1440p monitor is my next upgrade. But my 2070super isn't gonna cut it for me on 1440 when 1080p stresses it pretty hard. So im looking at minimum $500-$600 to get 1440p ready with a card and monitor

If that’s all you need it for just grab a 4070 I was using one until my recent upgrade and I got over 100 fps in most games with frame gen and Dlss quality on in 1440 p
Dumb_woodworker_md@reddit
Upscaling is real important to me. So I’d choose 4070S.
FSR3 is only so so. But you might not need it. So for you the cheaper 7800xt is likely fine and cheaper.
InfinitePilgrim@reddit
9070XT should be your choice. I did the same upgrade and the performance jump is jaw dropping.
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
Well that is also way out of my price range. Cheapest one available is 560€
prank_mark@reddit
Yeah but a 4070 won't be a huge upgrade over a 2080 Super.
Ponald-Dump@reddit
What are you talking about? A 4070 is 62% faster than a 2080S with 4 gb more VRAM
Crowley120@reddit
A 4070 is a 50-60% jump over a 2080 so he will for sure notice it
SterlingArcher824@reddit
Is 9070 (non-xt) in your price range?
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
Cheapest ones are way over 500€
SterlingArcher824@reddit
Wait, you said on the other comment that 9070xt is €560, so non-xt is the same price??
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
Yup, not a lot of selection here in Finland at least I can't find any
MrShItAsIaN@reddit
4070 or 4070 super
SweetBacon923@reddit
Used cheapest 4070ti?
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
590€ with shipping so it is out of my price range
SweetBacon923@reddit
Way too much it's 5070 money.
beirch@reddit
If you need the money you save by buying a 7800 XT to get an SSD, then buy the 7800 XT.
Still having games on a HDD in 2026 is more of a drawback than whatever features you're losing out on by going AMD vs Nvidia. Especially if you don't care about RT and already have Lossless scaling.
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
I have noticed that some games work worse and worse when installing on mechanical hdd so that might be best way to go here. SSD + the 7800 XT
Roda_Leon@reddit
Maybe 5070 if you find one at decent price? It usually not far off in price as 4070 super
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
Cheapest one is 510€ with shipping so it is 60€ more than the 4070S
Roda_Leon@reddit
I think it is worth it if you can afford it
No_Spare1827@reddit
Well im pretty sure the 7800xt is the best of those 3 but the other 2 do raytrace better even if u dont care more and more games do have it, plus the 40 series gets dlss 4 along with frame gen which is pretty nice to have despite what a lot of people think of it
So 7800xt if u dont use upscaling much and 4070S if u want all the features id say the €50 for the super is worth it over the standard 4070
Sniidut@reddit (OP)
I do have lossless scaling installed and that is also supposed to work with the 7800 xt so I can generate frames with that if needed. But not sure if games will run great on the future with 7800 xt at 1440p or upscaling is needed to achieve that resolution.
