Use a hairdryer to warm up the plastic,. Not too hot just in case there are batteries in.

You have to press very, very, very firmly on the protruding part and slide the cover out. It's meant to be that way apparently. Prying with a screwdriver will ruin the plastic and likely not work.

I’m pressing with all my might! Gonna take it to the camera shop tomorrow and see if they can do it.
