What movies or TV shows are people interested in but you have no interest in watching it?

For me it's strange things lord of the rings and a few others. But if I tell them I have zero Interest in it they'll never shut up about telling me who's who or what happened and I should watch it. Why is it so hard for people to understand this? But they quickly cut you off you did it to them it's so annoying.
Tru72@reddit
Gogglebox. We're watching people that watch TV,. ....watch tv!!!
Prestigious_Sand1978@reddit
I quite often don’t enjoy shows that the masses seem to love. I just don’t get fantasy, if it’s too far fetched. I also don’t like seeing too much violence or sex, so GOT, Stranger Things, 50 Shades, The Black List, Sopranos, the list is endless.
Rich-Peak-3902@reddit
What counts as "too" far fetched? All fantasy is far fetched, that's the point, it's fantastical.
Prestigious_Sand1978@reddit
Well, mostly things that aren’t human. I quite like ghosts, and I could just about cope with Narnia. But only just.
Rich-Peak-3902@reddit
Preface: this is genuine curiosity, not argument.
What makes a ghost less far fetched than, for example, a dragon?
Prestigious_Sand1978@reddit
I don’t believe in ghosts but I think we all like to believe in some way that people live on when they die. Even if common sense tells you that it’s not the case. And of course there’s the human connection. The odd thing is that I can watch fantasy when it’s kids films especially if I am watching with kids.
Bastrato@reddit
All of them. I almost never watch TV.
Simbooptendo@reddit
[insert Taylor Sheridan show here]
___MorningLovely@reddit
The Office, LOTR, GOT - I just couldn't get interested in any of them.
MisticalMulberry@reddit
Anything Star Wars
Tall-Budget8130@reddit
The Traitors. And I’m sick of hearing about it, I’m never going to watch it, but people will insist that I need to listen to them tell me about it anyway.
FireWhiskey5000@reddit
I’ve not watched the Traitors, but I don’t understand how/why it’s so popular, I’ve played werewolf/mafia and it seems to be the same game. It’s all vibes based and there’s little or no skill involved. It’s fun to play but I just can’t see how it’s so fun to watch.
leclercwitch@reddit
God yes. I watched half of one episode and didn’t understand what was going on. I feel like I’m the only person in the office that doesn’t watch it/thinks it’s shit telly.
Specific-Pirate3864@reddit
I told a colleague I hadn't seen Game of Thrones and he looked at me like I’d just admitted to a crime. The social pressure to watch dragons is getting out of hand
acceberbex@reddit
I hadn't seen Game of Thrones either until about a month ago when we started binging the whole series. The first 5 series were good. But I have a habit of refusing to watch what my colleagues bang on about (usually Strictly, I'm a celeb, Traitors, Call the Midwife - none of those appeal
YouDontLookDead@reddit
I say this as someone who loves many nerds very deeply, the LotR movies has over-emboldened them, not everyone wants to watch your dragons and shit. I love that their high fantasy itches are being accessibly scratched, and I'll even listen to them talk about it and try to follow but its a hard no-thankyou for my viewing
CoffeeIgnoramus@reddit
I personally loved LotR. Something felt special about that, but GoT just feels like they tried to mix sex and dragons and medieval times and kind of got a storyline together... I watched the first season under duress and honestly didn't get the hype.
YouDontLookDead@reddit
I think the LotR films are beautifully made, but outside of Samwise being bae, I just dont care- and they are loooong films to sit through when you dont care. GoT I watched one episode and that was quite enough
CoffeeIgnoramus@reddit
Came here for this answer.
I once let a friend persuade me to watch with them... I honestly did not get the hype at all. It's a good story for people who like fantasy... but honestly (to me) it just felt like a way to show sex and dragons with some medieval type fighting. I watched with them for a season and they moved away and honestly, that was the end of it for me. I had no motivation to keep watching.
ObsydianGinx@reddit
I never get the need to force people to watch game of thrones. It’s definitely not for everyone. Boobs, blood, and betrayal do not appeal to everyone
sheepandlambs@reddit
I'm only really a fan of one of those things, myself.
Arnoave@reddit
Is it the betrayal?
caniuserealname@reddit
Tons. Everyone has their own tastes, personally I have absolutely zero interest in shows based around organised crime. Not an ethical objection or anything, I just don't find the genre interesting for the most part, so breaking bad, sopranos, peaky blinders etc, all incredibly popular but even when I force myself to watch I get absolutely nothing out of them.
AJMurphy_1986@reddit
Would you rather tell them your sex stories instead?
glytxh@reddit
I live amongst a nerd crowd, so I’ve seen all the biggest hits. I’ve even sat and watched all 9 Star Wars movies in a row, done the LotR marathon, tagged along with Game of Thrones, read all the foundational literature etc
It wasn’t until my 30s that I began realising that I disliked, or at best was ambivalent, about 90% of this shit. I was just tagging along with all the stuff my friends liked, and never really developed my own tastes.
It’s this infantilising culture of having nostalgia perpetually repackaged and sold back to you.
flangeflangeflanges@reddit
Lord of the Rings like you. All of the Star Trek films, all of the Marvel films, breaking bad, stranger things, game of thrones. Loads.
ExultentPisces@reddit
I’m a big Trekkie. I saw that first of those Trek reboot films and knew that the series as I knew and loved it was dead. I haven’t bothered watching a single bit of new Trek since.
SamVimesBootTheory@reddit
Lower Decks from what I saw of it was pretty decent (I did have worries it was going to basically be Family Guy in space)
Sandy_Bananas@reddit
Not seen the new films but I quite enjoyed Picard
ExultentPisces@reddit
My old house mate watched Picard. I’d catch a bit of it if I happened to be in the living room when she had it on. It seemed like every other drama show on TV at the time.
By which I mean it seemed relentlessly grim. It seems to be the case with so many shows, the world is horrible, those in power are corrupt, everything always gets worse.
Maybe people like that sort of thing, I don’t know. But it seems to be directly contradicting what Star Trek was always about.
Sandy_Bananas@reddit
I should say, I’m enjoying it so far. I’m just at the start of the second season and it does seem to have taken a darker turn.
It’s certainly not TNG/DS9/Voyager. But the first season felt like it retained some of the whimsical elements of old Trek.
Sandy_Bananas@reddit
Maybe I’m just a curmudgeonly old fuck but the list of things I don’t give a shit about is seemingly endless.
SamVimesBootTheory@reddit
Tbh with Marvel I find that often the individual character films can be pretty decent but the ensemble movies are often where they fall apart.
I really feel the MCU would've worked better if they'd just stuck to an anthology approach.
Master_Sympathy_754@reddit
I'm actually a fan of the lotr films, but have 0 interest in the tv show.
starkmatics@reddit
Big brother fan i see
Floidotron@reddit
The Office. Both versions. People act like I kicked their dog when I say I've never seen it and don't care to. Some shows just aren't for everyone. That's fine.
SamVimesBootTheory@reddit
Same
I think for me The Office is like Friends where I missed it the first time around by merit of being slightly too young to watch it, so when I have tried to watch it I haven't really got any nostalgic attachment to it so it just doesn't quite hit for me
I will though at least give it credit for some very useful gifs/memes that have stood the test of time.
I think also because The Office is a sitcom about... office culture and I've never worked in that kind of setting that also might be a factor as well
dianthuspetals@reddit
I’ve had the same reaction and when I say I don’t fancy it, some people look so appalled. Then comes the flood of questions about why it doesn’t appeal to me.
MountainMuffin1980@reddit
Because it's an interesting conversation to have I imagine? Like why aren't you interested in it (UK and US).
Like for me, I've got no interest in Greys Anatomy because I'm not into romance/ dramas, and don't care for shows set in hospitals, except for Scrubs. Surely you've got a response for why you are t interested in the Office?
dianthuspetals@reddit
I suppose it's just a general need some people have to know the exact reasons behind people's opinions and life choices. It becomes tiresome when you have people prying and trying to get you to explain yourself after you provide a polite yet brief answer, especially over something as trivial as a TV show.
Dolphin_Spotter@reddit
I have never seen Game of Thrones.
BuncleCar@reddit
It made me wiggle with discomfort so I never watched it, apart from the first five uncomfortable minutes
bdgrlrbs@reddit
the UK one is iconic but its been tainted now gervais is such a cunt
i cannot get on board with the US version either - and people have the exact same reaction lol
nick9000@reddit
I don't have a TV but, what from I've heard, Peaky Blinders (brummie gangsters?) is not something that would interest me.
AromaticVacation3077@reddit
Succession. I watched the first season. it was OK, but I had no interest in watching any more.
Goldman250@reddit
Invincible. Knowing nothing about it, I watched the first episode, and was quite interested and charmed by this world of optimistic superheroic stuff. I was keen to see this story of a young man struggling to follow in his father’s footsteps when his father is Superman, and I was craving some wholesome and nice superhero stuff. It’d be a nice contrast and palate cleanser to stuff like The Boys. Then the second half of the first episode happened, and I just went “nah”.
Automatic-Pie-111@reddit
Tried but couldn't get into peaky blinders. Wont watch anything with Ant and Dec.
Separate-Shower-4270@reddit

ExultentPisces@reddit
All of them. I don’t watch TV at all and I rarely go to the cinema.
The last time I watched a TV show on recommendation was Heroes. My friends told me it was fantastic. I sat down to watch the first couple of episodes and it was so blitheringly stupid I basically quit watching TV drama after that.
The only TV show I’ve got into since then is Adventure Time.
As for films, I tend to just discover my own things. I like watching crappy 1950s sci-fi, cheesy 1980s action movies, experimental movies and animated (preferably cell animation) movies.
continentaldreams@reddit
What's all your furniture pointed at?
ExultentPisces@reddit
Haha, got to admit, I watched Friends back in the day. While that show was very hit and miss, that’s one line that got a good laugh out of me.
But to answer your question, my hi-fi and monitor.
steveakacrush@reddit
Reality shows and anything with "celebrity" in the title.
Arnoave@reddit
I think Game of Thrones and Stranger Things are both absolute drivel, but you're not allowed to hold that opinion in public.
mailywhale@reddit
Sounds like you spend time with annoying people
Professional-Cup6225@reddit
this is such an annoying and pointless comment
mailywhale@reddit
Is it? I thought I was answering the question quite reasonably, maybe I was too vague.
What I mean is I can't relate to someone continuously pestering me about a TV show I've told them I don't care about. or any hobby/interest that I don't share with him. It sounds like OP is surrounding by annoying people.
continentaldreams@reddit
You're all very special and unique <3
Nevernonethewiser@reddit
People keep telling me to watch Jury Duty or whatever it's called.
The more people say it the less interested I become.
It's a personal failing, to be honest. Purely being contrarian.
continentaldreams@reddit
It's very easy watching and funny - worth a go if you ever are in the mood for a quickie

I never watched The Wire when it was first out and I've never seen a trailer that has made me want to.
RandomUser22487@reddit
Both versions of The Office, Friends and The Traitors. I’ve attempted to watch them all, didn’t like them and people I work with think it’s some sort of crime.
EyeSpy1359@reddit
Gavin & Stacey. Never seen an episode. It's a shame in a way as I think I might like it but I just can't bear JC so can't watch it.
Ok-Constant-2683@reddit
All of them. I think it reached a peak with game of thrones, but the breaking bad fans were kind of annoying for a while as well.
bdgrlrbs@reddit
i will never be interested in watching game of thrones, or any period drama. i loved series one of stranger things but i have no interest in it now, stop dragging it out guys lol
love island and married at first site too - i switch off when people talk about it because i couldnt think of anything worse lol. reality tv/game shows are much more interesting with different people of all walks of life like traitors or CHANNEL 4 BIG BROTHER (the peak of reality tv and probably my life)
zephyrthewonderdog@reddit
Nearly all the Superhero or Marvel films. Only one I watched was Guardians of the Galaxy.
CharmingSwing1366@reddit
stranger things too, as well as game of thrones when everybody seemed to be going on about that
MGSC_1726@reddit
I got 3 seasons into game of thrones wondering when it was going to be good before I gave up
No-Row-9994@reddit
Literally anything on Netflix
Harrry-Otter@reddit
In fairness, LOTR is one of the best film series ever released. Even if you’re not into fantasy, the score and cinematography in it are amazing. I can get people saying “you need to watch it” in the same sense I can get why people say you need to watch the Godfather or try listening to The Beatles.
To answer your question though, Traitors. Heard about it multiple times but just never actually bothered to sit down and watch it.
Specialist_Emu7274@reddit
Pretty much all reality tv, I have seen clips of a lot of them online and it’s just not entertaining to me. I also tried to watch the office and again it wasn’t for me
Dazz316@reddit
Anything with "celebrity" on it. And usually the program that. I can't stand the often over dramatization that they force on it. My wife got me to watch traitors, and the amount of time little to nothing was happening but they added this big dramatic music like the end of the world was happening, cuts and everything they could to make like the almost insignificant thing happening on screen was seen to be a HUGE deal.
Astrates@reddit
Big Bang Theory is always recommended to me but every snippet I've seen has looked awful. Boring, predictable jokes with zero personality
