Thanks everybody for the replies - I hadn't eaten that much in the day so must have just been caffeine and sugar or something.
At one point at the very start I started getting super overwhelmed and a bit dizzy, my friend said maybe this was a mild version of a panic attack or something caused from a mix of the caffeine and the exam stress. I am not sure but I guess something to think about. Thanks everyone!
I am still on the waiting list for titration so do not yet take any ADHD medications, but thank you for letting me know as I will keep in mind for the future
It might be more than the caffeine and probably the amount of sugar you consumed in the drink as well. Might just be a sugar crash you’re experiencing.
That said, I also had the same experience where drinking Red Bull or the Starbucks Double Espresso canned drink would also result in me talking to someone and literally in the middle of the conversation I was asked if I was okay because I looked sleepy.
I do have similar experiences with coffee, and I probably am neurodivergent too. It is almost never as intense as you described unless I’m too tired and have alcohol in my body. So as others have said, it can happen if you mix it with other stimulants, too much sugar intake could also add to the “high”

Do you take meds for your adhd? If so they strongly advise you not to drink caffeine.
Caffeine can affect people with adhd different. It can make you sleepy and calm, focused for a small bit, or less focused and anxious.
For some people coffee mimics the flight or fight mechanisms in our bodies, so causes significant anxiety.
It also could be a sort of placebo affect, you drunk this coffee and expected a reaction to it, so you got one.

Yeah this is definitely a possibility, maybe I just got a slight caffeine rush and then convinced myself I felt weird

Are you taking any adhd meds that are stimulants? Could be an interaction between them and the caffeine.

Worth saying : A coffee date doesn’t mean you have to drink coffee.

If you are on meds for the ADHD it can cause a reaction. Try a decaf coffee. Its still coffee but no caffeine to interact with any medication

If you function fine without caffeine I'd caution against starting it... You'll sleep better without it.
There's plenty of low caffeine options you can have and still go for a chat with someone in the cafe

" I felt like it was having an out of body experience. I was speaking to someone and remember feeling like I wasn’t really there."
Coffee didn't cause this, unless you are on some medications that aren't supposed to be taken with caffeine.

I have met someone who 100% suffered from ‘caffeine overdose’
