Casual slurs are the norm (well, they were when I was on the site and I doubt it's changed) on essentially every large board on 4chan including /v/, where I assume this is from.
3D Land was good. Really nostalgic feel with its presentation. It being single player and the levels often having huge backdrops led to it feeling quite lonely and odd. It’s a feeling I remember noticing when I was a kid playing the hell out of it.
If Nintendo put this game in HD on Switch for $20 I’d buy it in a heartbeat and really enjoy it
Mario platformer games always get top ratings because, well, it's Mario. They are realistically very boring by even fairly old game standards at this point though, aside from for children. Who can seriously say that the characters, worldbuilding, story, of Mario is anything to speak of though.
I recall this game being really good, and if I ended up in a discussion about the quality of various mario games I would definitely bring it up. It’s a sterling example of how to make straightforward 3d levels that are still interesting.
If you want to talk about a mario game that has zero fans and zero appeal, pick one of the wii-u era 2d ones. Those are pretty much shovelware imo.
I tried playing some of the later traditional Marios and Wario and stuff and idk man no matter what they do with the level design etc the formula is so overdone (also by the million game boy games that copied it,) its hard to truly get excited.
Whereas the genuine 3D, 64 style ones aren't very numerous so that's a concept that still makes me go ooh
I'm that guy. I fucking love this game. I was taking public transit very frequently at the time in a big city, so I'd get tons of Streetpasses. Id beat everyone's speedrun times I encountered.
This game kicked ass. 3D World is obviously better but 3D Land was great.

I mean if we are talking about Mario games that just don't fit into the series probably TTYD. Absolutely amazing game but not like any other Mario.
(The OG was pretty good and TTYD was amazing, we don't talk about the other ones)

The new super Mario series was almost entirely slop. Only the first one gets a pass since it was somewhat novel at the time

I still think 3D Land is better than Sunshine, but I will admit it lacks a certain intangible something to make it stand out.

Who is saying that though? It's universally beloved.
