is 1440p worth it?

i play competitive games but since upgrading to a much better gpu (4070 from a 1650 super) id like to play story games. i play on a 24 inch 1080p monitor right now mainly because it feels good and 27 is too big for me.

There is a gigantic difference between a 24" 1080p screen and a 27" 1440p screen, in sharpness detail and immersion in the games you are playing.
So long as your computer is up for the task 1440p 27" to me is king over both 1080p and 4k.

When I moved to 1440 from 1080, it was pretty amazing. My son plays a lot of Baldur’s Gate on his 24” 1080 and he’s envious when he looks over at my 27 1440 setup.

I upgraded from 1080p Gigabyte G24F2 to 1440p Samsung Odyssey G65B. Playing cs and other singleplayer games. The difference is noticeable, but I am not that blown away as most would say. That being said, it is my experience. Screen real estate is good, but nothing to write home about.

1440p is much more crisp and much nicer for single player games at higher settings. It's very hard to go back to 1080p once u get used to it. But, the performance at 1080p for competitive games is still generally higher if paired with a good CPU.

Massive difference from 1080p and 1440p

Hundreds of threads already asking the same question, all answers the same.
Yes, it’s worth it.
Made the switch to 1440p 27” more than 5 years ago, best gaming upgrade ever besides the jump from 60hz to 144hz. Everyday I turn on my computer I’m still impressed with how sharp 1440p is.
1080p in all shapes and forms looks like shit to me now, I guess that’s the only drawback?
If 27” really is that big.. 24” 1440p 144hz+ monitors exist but there’s legitimately like only 5 models to choose from. With enough googling you’ll find them. I think 24” is too small for 1440p, and you’ll find yourself using like 150% scaling on windows or something

Real talk, upgrading from 1650 Super to 4070 is a massive jump. 1440p on a 27" is night and day compared to 1080p, totally worth it. Only thing is you mentioned 27 feels too big - you could try a 25" 1440p if they're available in your region.

It's a noticeable difference. Whether it's worth it depends on your budget, hardware and expectations.

Look. I just built a new pc and planned to stick with 1080p 24”. I was convinced to move to 27” 1440p and…wowsers. Very glad I listened.

is it really that big of a difference?

It is, 1080 will look terrible after
FakeJoestar@reddit
I currently have a 32” 1440p 144hz and 32” 4K 60hz, and I’d imagine if you go 27” 1440p 144hz+ (as you should with the 4070), you’ll feel silly for even questioning it. 1080p will feel too blurry for you afterwards.
TDEcret@reddit
It is. I myself switched last year. The bigger screen is great (going from 23' to 27') and it looks much sharper and overal nicer.
Its hard to explain but once you have it, 1080p looks fuzzy. Its similar to the 60fps discussion, 60 fps is fine but the moment you switch to 100+fps, 60 suddenly looks choppy and its terrible to go back to it.

1440 high (Not ultra or max) is kind of a sweet spot for everything in my opinion.
Opening_Evidence6360@reddit
1440p is the new 1080p tbh. I think there's an argument regarding if 4k is worth it, but 1440p is most definitely worth it.
Lil_Hater112@reddit
My friend has 1080 and he put it on 1440p for better aliasin games lol. So ye, 1440p is worth it
Rob_van_Wanst@reddit
This is they way! I do that too and LOVE it 🙂
DZCreeper@reddit
Absolutely.
27" 1440p is the value sweet spot IMO. You can get a 240Hz QD-OLED for $450-550 these days or 360Hz for $550-650.
