Will a 9800X3D run Elite Dangerous?

Without a graphics card will an 9800x3d be able to play the game until i can afford a g-card with it's onboard graphics? I'll be able to afford a motherboard, cpu, memory and cooler next month but i won't be able to afford a graphics card. Really hoping i can play this game in the meantime!

Highly doubt it, I think it's supposed to have enough of an iGPU to display a desktop but that's probably it haha
Sairenity@reddit
modern iGPUs are shockingly competent. minecraft runs at a solid 250fps on my 9950x
Ambitious-Yard7677@reddit
It ran RE2 remake at 720p native when testing a 9850X3D. A bit more than a display adapter but nothing like what the new APU's are packing

Thanks for your input!

It will be so pixelated that it looks like minecraft in space.
Not great, not terrible.

no no wait for gpu
ICastCats@reddit
My friend, get a 9600X and a second hand 5700XT and just upgrade sooner
GuyNamedStevo@reddit
On Steam it says a GTX 470 minimum and a GTX 770 is recommended. I'd say it runs flawlessly, at least on 1080p/max.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
VERY reassuring, thanks for the reply!
GuyNamedStevo@reddit
I correct myself and say it runs flawlessly, but you might have to put the settings down. 60+ fps definitely possible.
TraditionalMetal1836@reddit
Maybe if you stick to the legacy branch which uses the older engine (progress no longer transfers over to main)
Even then it's probably going to suck.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
Yeah it'd truly suck going over to legacy, I'd rather use my Xbox if i had to do that 👍
Left_Zebra7393@reddit
If the game hasn't had a next gen update and is still a 2014 game, it might be able to...
TraditionalMetal1836@reddit
That's not accurate. Whichever version brought odyssey did in fact update the engine.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
Hasn't had any graphical updates, just new ships and can go on foot.

The 9800X3D has an impressively weak igpu so if you can run it, its not going to be anything like the best that it can be.. that being said.. you're building the system regardless so if you have to wait to afford a solid GPU you might as well just go for it.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
Do you recommend any other CPU's with better iGPU?
Dredkinetic@reddit
Absolutely not, because when you eventually do pair that CPU with a powerful GPU you will have a system that will carry you through multiple years of gaming.. dropping down to a lesser CPU with a better igpu isn't worth it.. build your system, do what you can with it until you can afford a good graphics card.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
Ok ta!
Dredkinetic@reddit
In fact.. if you are in the United States I will send you my old soldier GTX 1060 6GB for free, It won't rock your universe but it will let you play Elite Dangerous and see the potential. :D
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
You're a diamond but unfortunately i live in UK. Thanks anyway though!!
Dredkinetic@reddit
I'm sorry, thanks to the orange fucking tumor it would probably cost me more to ship it to you then the card is even worth. When you DO buy a GPU to go with that thing I strongly recommend going AMD and maybe something like the 9060XT 16GB.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
Ooh that's £400, if i brought a 7800x3d instead of the 9800x3d i could afford the full build next month. Think i should?
Ambitious-Yard7677@reddit
It's worth keeping an eye on the used market. High end Maxwell cards have finally entered "bargain bin" territory if you look hard enough. A 980Ti will be more than enough for the kind of game elite dangerous looks to be.
Nothing wrong with a "stop gap" card so to speak. It'd give you time to save up more and potentially get something way better

With ideally a wired internet connection you can use the free tier of GeForce Now which is supposed to give you RTX3050ish processing. The only caveat with the free tier is that you're limited to 1 hr sessions but there's no limit to how many sessions you can start every day so you just have to be a little clever about saving.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
I'm currently using boosteroid to play as it was £4 more expensive than geforce nows cheapest plan yet you get unlimited gaming time instead of 100 hours. The ten minute afk kicker is starting to get to me though. I like to have a munch as listening to game music etc.
FireFalcon123@reddit
It might, since it says the minimum gpu is a GTX 470. I upgraded a friends PC with an FX 8350 and GTX 660 and the R5 7600 iGPU ran smoother and a little faster than it.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
That's comforting!
breakConcentration@reddit
That smoothness must have come from the quicker cpu because according to the stats online , the igpu is 300% slower than the GTX 470.
Justice-Being@reddit (OP)
Ah jeez...
OzDuck90000@reddit
Check the recommended specs If it says you need a graphics card then it won’t work without one 🙃
