The attitude, view, beliefs and ideology of society is to always blame the truck driver even if they are not at fault. That’s why this bus driver did what they did.
Bus drivers are a menace. Their roadway awareness is almost zero. Pull out onto a 55 mph roadway in front of oncoming traffic and activate their stop lights.
School bus drivers give no fucks whether it's trains or trucks. They should be held to a way higher standard than truckers because they indeed have the most precious cargo. A count of child endangerment per child.
Yeah they are shi+. A lot of Coach Bus Drivers are trash too. They’re always speeding with buses full of people. Looks like a lot of them don’t governors and want to drive 10 mph over the speed limit to show off
when i was young, we used to take the chinatown bus from boston to nyc. i remember always being impressed we made it in one piece. a few weeks ago i was talking to a friend and looked up the company, it was hilarious seeing almost every picture on google was either one of their buses crashed into a building or on fire. fung wah bus if anyone is curious(shockingly no longer in business)
Woh now, I don't want to be that guy but " most valuable cargo"? I'm pretty sure your children are not worth as much as my bananas. That's not me saying that, that's the insurance companys saying that.
I’m a mechanic with a school bus company. I can unfortunately confirm that school bus drivers often don’t belong behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle (sometimes any vehicle).
Part of the problem in a lot of places is the use of contracting. Bus companies bid on school bus contracts, then pay their drivers like shit to make more for the company and so on.
I don't mind kids. If it paid over $30 an hour I'd drive a school bus. I'm a damn good driver, 8 years driving commercially with no accidents. Unfortunately for the kids they barely even pay $20 an hour around here so they get stuck with retired old people or people who can't do much else.
They don’t belong and sometimes they don’t want to, but are forced to! In some areas you have to be a dual employee. So lunch lady and bus driver, substitute and bus driver, etc. It’s a god awful system that I went through personally. I was the only dual employee that wanted to drive a bus out of 30 in my class!
School bus drivers do some interesting stuff. There was one yesterday where the sign on the bus broke and they were going 40 down the road. Me driving a box truck and the guy behind me didn't know if we should stop, get out of the way, getting to a parking lot because the bus was still stopping with the sign out but also making those stops super quick and rushing the kids off the bus and not giving the kids time to cross the road.
I find it crazy that the kids have to cross from the bus to the other side, here in the uk they route them to generally avoid crossing major roads, minor roads are acceptable to have them cross with a crossing guard, in larger schools the bus may even enter the school grounds
I think it's because of the bulk but I agree. I also hear in some parts of the world they don't have school zones that everyone adheres to because the common populace actually cares enough to watch for kids. I guess it doesn't help in my town that it's southern and rednecks are in a hurry to get nowhere but me and that bus driver have commercial licenses and they're just blatantly acting like that bus driver from South Park half the time.
I wish it was like that because that's exactly what I do. Thus I also work early in the morning but sometimes my days run late. I'm also not a fan that a bus stop is literally in front of my house at my mailbox but I have no idea how to change that. Interesting arguments when you meet a school bus on your property and people are parked in your driveway or yard. I even have signs that say it's private property but the school system not bus lines return my calls.
Wow, here in the uk the school bus runs like a regular bus route, regular people can even ride on the bus but most people avoid that as the kids can be unruly
We have separate busses for that in my town. Yellow school busses and then busses part of the transportation infrastructure for city and only city transit. Then intrastate for tourism, interstate for cross state transportation from other states. My job for example is intrastate driving and delivery.
Yes, what has happened to the trucking industry, is percolating into the transit and school bussing industry.
We went from drivers that were professional, to haphazardly hiring people that are alive, with very little practical experience, and poor cultural judgement/education.
50 years ago, you may have had a "simpleton" driving a truck, but he knew how to drive at a very high level of competence.
That's really crazy. Like I get that the school bus shouldn't have jumped out in front of a damn truck of all things. However I can't help but also suspect that maybe a school bus shouldn't be routed to take a turn like that in the first place. Like are they only going to fix the routing once it is successfully t-boned?
Exactly. It’s not the drier that needs to fired, it’s the person writing routes and the admin that approved it. That turn is WAY TOO dangerous for a school bus to be making every day. At minimum make it a right turn and then figure out how to get in the direction you need.
I've seen a lot of fucked uo intersections and road ways doing this job. Service road where you cross oncoming traffic to get to the interstate on ramp. Roads where it's be 2 way and suddenly with no warning turn i to a 1 way. Weird shit that makes no sense at all.
Sometimes focusing on honking the horn can distract you from avoiding the other vehicle. The horn isn’t going to steer the truck or slow it down. People don’t move as soon as they hear a horn if they even hear it soon enough
Was that full brake application? Seems a bit weaker than I expected I’ve driven a 44 ton lorry and could stop a fair bit faster than that, load didn’t even move either
Now, why do you people down for things you don't like? I mean really. Grow up. You all can't take some satire? Everyone has to be a crybaby and down people feel like a bunch of whiny ass School bus drivers. Yes, I said that down this whole bunch of times Cause y'all are perfect.
Why do they need to be fired? Are they supposed to go right into traffic and hurt precious kids on their route? Bet the truck driver was late with his delievery and just wanted to b about it. Truck driving doesn't give them the right of way. And the truck stopped and had time to stop. Stop moaning.

That shows should’ve stopping distance of a freight train. On the road with 18 wheels.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I’ve seen artics stop faster than that, 99% of the ones on roads near me have disc brakes all around, and some even can automatically apply them
XGrimmcommandoX@reddit
Depends on the weight of the load.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Even a fully freighted double decker stops pretty well with discs, without a trailer you slow down a little slower due to less overall braking force
