Yeah both sides of my great grandparents were land owners, paternal side lost most of it to Great Depression then gambled the rest away. Maternal side were more understandable since they were Eurasians spread across Shanghai, Chongqing(Chungking), and Guangzhou but had their lands seized during the grand commie robbery of China. Both sides ended up in Hong Kong where my grandparents met and eventually got married. Ironic thing is I uplifted my entire direct family by gambling on options, so you win some you lose some.
Yeah and now the modern generations can blow thousands of dollars on Gacha games. As to if that’s better than gambling on a hog or something is up to debate.
My then 14 year old brother did that to my mother right after our father died, knowing she had a ton of lif insurance money in her account and it wouldnt decline. Blames his OCD/inherited addictive personality (dad was a recovered alcoholic) for it and my family gets pissed at me if I ever dare to bring it up. It was thousands of dollars. 5 years later and the money's all gone, our mom doesn't discuss finances with us but has a bunch of new credit cards, I make barely above minimum wage and can't afford to get the hell out of here, even with my friend who wants to live with me (he's also stuck at home). Too young to qualify for food stamps so my diet is abhorrent and I barely have any energy. Celebrities and politicians eat babies. Fuck gambling or whatever the hell I started this with. Made me feel the closest to hate I've ever felt towards a family member.
I’d honestly rather be addicted to heroin than gacha gaming, at least I’d maybe get some cool stories or something cooler than just some pngs of half naked questionably aged anime girls
I unironically think about that a lot . Like about genealogy and Common Ancestry Points . Slave owners had negative effects on the lives of hundreds for the benefit of their families and immediate connections . When you look at their thousands (10 generations) to millions (20 generations) of descendants centuries later , all also descending from basically everyone that slave owner ever met who lived long enough to have kids , the benefits of him abusing others has long been diluted into oblivion while the negative consequences of said abuse probably still lingers to some extent . Makes me think of The Egg by Andy Weir .
Yep. My grandfather is a multimillionaire with a Stanford degree who used to work for Proctor and Gamble. Only one of his children went to college, my dad, and he got a community college degree in art. Everyone is poor, addicted to drugs, have multiple divorces.
I'm the first grandchild to go to college, and my grandpa decided not to do college funds anymore because the first few grandchildren took the money and ran off to go do drugs. Left me in crippling debt until I joined the military.
He plans to leave his money to God (donate it to the Mormon church), so it's all going to vanish into thin air. I'm not one of those people who's rabid for their piece of the inheritance, but at the same time there are people in the family that could really use some of the money to help them out, and instead it's all going to a church that has a shit ton of money already. My little brother is a genius and can go to a really good school, but I'm worried he'll end up in the same position as me, paying a ton of money in loans and eventually burning out from stress.
It’s funny how only American/ western parents were brainwashed to let their children suffer while every other group on earth actually cares about their kids having an easier future
You have shown you’re not busted out like other members. You could entreat your grandpa to help out your little brother so he doesn’t end up indebted like you are. That may spark some charity in his heart. Or he may get pissed but youre not getting any money anyway so why care about pissing him off?
Most of the time I see artist commissions they are charging lile 300 bucks for like 6-7 hours of work. They also have to be constantly outputting high quality work to keep social media engagement up. There is also self-employment taxes and if they are in a country without public insurance they need to either be married or pay out the ass.
Lying on taxes isn't a viable method either because all of their transactions are recorded by their payment processor
It can pay well if you can make it, but it isn't going to change your lifestyle and I doubt many artists can stay relevant for more than 5 years.
It sort of is, but it has a lot of other costs woth food, shelter, clothing, medical care, replacing slaves, and also paying extra people to manage and keep the slaves from running.
You'd be better off just paying them for the work or investing into a machine or two to bring the manpower needed down.
my family donated a bunch of civil war correspondence to a museum in mississippi before i was born and when i was old enough i got to see all that stuff (pictures/copies) and learned that one of my ancestors was a slave-catcher
and also i'm allowed to join the sons of the confederacy because another ancestor was a traitor officer who got a leg blown off and was captured by the union and paraded around the north as part of a public humiliation thing lol
I can't qualify for this kinda stuff. On one side of the family we were slaves. On the other side they were union loyalists living in Texas hiding in the Big Thicket forest in east Texas.

Newt Collins was my great great great great (lot of greats) grandad. He and his brothers Stace and Warren hid in the woods as fugitives from confederate conscription for much of the war. My aunt did a family tree thing a couple years back. Blew our minds.
i mean my family laughs about that embarrassing shit but the sons/daughters of the confederacy are way more cringy about that lost cause crap than the reenactment cosplayers ever could be
Homie, your dad's a slave owner. Those fucking staff members are underpaid and overworked, your dad's just on the food chain of who's getting fucked more by the machine.
