Why do super truckers always drive Kenworth/Peterbilt trucks?

Most super truckers I’ve ever met have always been in a Kenworth/Peterbilt. Usually a long hood with a CAT or Series 60 engine , sometimes a Cummins or Paccar engine. They’re also the people purchasing chrome herd guards, chrome bumpers, louder train horns, chrome exhaust stacks, full fenders, watermelon lights, and chicken lights. I’ve only met a few super truckers driving Freightliners, Volvos or Internationals. They also always talk shit about Freightliners, Volvos, and Internationals (International deserves the hate though), and the truckers with CAT or Series 60 engines love to talk shit about newer engines with emissions.

Super unpopular opinion: I like the looks of the freightliner cascadia a lot more than the W900. Bring on the downvotes.
ToeSimilar5163@reddit
Maybe not the Cascadia, but some aero trucks are pretty. I like how the t680s look and I really like how the t880s look, especially without the hat on the cab
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
The new Volvos are pretty dope.
gale_force@reddit
What about the new Mack?
OsBaculum@reddit
Kenworth makes the only decent looking mid roof imo.
eaa61@reddit
Because their business model is based on a "Life Style" and not based on the bottomline.
Delicious_Peace_2526@reddit
Owning a truck isn’t a good way to make money. It’s more of a lifestyle thing. They don’t mind being broke as long as they get to drive a hot rod up and down the highway.

KW/Peterbilt are the only ones still making the classic look large car long hoods. Large reason why 😂
PearlMillingCompany@reddit (OP)
Because every manufacturer realized they get worse MPG. KW/Pete only still make them because they know super truckers will buy them.
unloader86@reddit
And they still make them so the demand is clearly there...
ChiTruckDGAF@reddit
Pretty sure this year is the last model year for the W900 and the 389.
luddite86@reddit
Replaced by the W990 and 589
They’re still making traditionally styled trucks for the people who want them. They’re just using the one cab across all models now
luddite86@reddit
“KW/Pete only still make them because they know (there is still a market for them”
Also, not every truck pulls a van. Not every truck needs to be a large Prius. In fact in some cases it helps when the truck isnt a large Prius
Unopuro2conSal@reddit
Key words “ LARGE CAR “
New_Situation1764@reddit
Because they are made for heavy haul. Cascadia dont come close
PearlMillingCompany@reddit (OP)
I get that. I’m talking about the super truckers that use them for reefer, dry van, livestock, tanker, grain, and flatbeds with normal weights.
ChiTruckDGAF@reddit
Which is 90% of them.
duhrun@reddit
Most Peterbilt drivers wear lingerie too, they are Peter lovers.
Schnots@reddit
Not true.
They ain’t got no panties on.
meizhong@reddit
Especially the ones with extra tall shifters. I swear to god the just want to grip a big, long shaft.
Cool_Thanks_4934@reddit
Hell I like my international. Don’t know why they get so much grief. I’ve driven all except Mack and western. It comes down to the engine and the only one I’ve hated was Mercedes engine. It struggled going up hill bobtail.
merv1985@reddit
international trucks get hate because of the disaster MaxxForce 13 engine 2010-2014.
Cool_Thanks_4934@reddit
Mine has the X-15 and it’s fine of course I would like A little more kick to it. 450hp.
PearlMillingCompany@reddit (OP)
The A26 also sucks
ToeSimilar5163@reddit
I’m in a new international… LT? I think that’s its name. I cannot stand the thing and I hear the door/brake/liftgate alarm beeping on my off time. It’s a jerky truck on top of that, really doesn’t like bumps in the road.
Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
Meh they are just truckers.be in the biz enough and you’ll be the same. You get to understand why is the best equipment. I’d take a 3408 if I was running hills a lot and a DT60 otherwise. Manual 13. No frills pure highway. W9 for the win
Scurvy_Pete@reddit
3408 didn’t have Jakes. Might have a brakesaver tho. 3408 was big power in the 70s when 3406s were 425 horse, but a “modern” 3406 will walk it up and downhill easy.
Tough to beat the cool factor tho
IllustriousLeek39@reddit
You’re talking about guys that embrace this as a lifestyle and, sadly, their identity. For a lot of them it’s rooted deeply in family. Dad drove, grandpa drove…
I do drive a long nose truck. It’s difficult to find or spec a heavy haul version of a cascadia. Double frames, heavy suspension, long wheel bases, 20,000lb steer, 56k rears and an 18 speed with an auxiliary are not common in manufacturers outside of paccar. I’m not a “super trucker” though. I personally don’t give a shit what you drive or what kind of shoes you wear. Just stop trying to pass me in a curve or right before a narrow bridge.
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Just a heads up, apparently Autocar is coming back to production in the next year or two. Might be something worth looking into.
BriskManeuver@reddit
They like to look cool gripping a stick and sitting low
Honch777@reddit
A 60 Series will last until the end of time though.
duhrun@reddit
Most Peterbilt drivers wear lingerie too, they are Peter lovers.
Great_Bambi@reddit
Gotta feel sexy somehow 😘
beavismorpheus@reddit
It's strictly a comfort thing. ❤️
unloader86@reddit
😂
luddite86@reddit
Because if they weren’t in cool trucks they wouldn’t be super truckers
It’s like asking why Rich Kids always have wealthy parents. It’s in the name
