Upgrade 7700x to 9800x3D at 4k or no

I am curious if this upgrade is worth it or not because I’ve seen and read a lot of contradicting things. I’ve heard at 4k cpu barely matters except in certain games as you’re gpu limited and I’ve heard that opposite as well that even at 4k a 9800x3d will provide a boost in performance, especially with dlss and now it’s gotten me curious because I tend to play at dlss performance (games with PT) or balanced/quality if I can afford it with my 5070ti, and I was wondering if there’s any meaningful performance uplift from getting an x3d cpu. I also play modded Minecraft as well sometimes with shaders sometimes without

Seems like a waste to me
Why even upgrade? You want more FPS? Then you simply need a better GPU

I think for 4K gaming, you should be more concerned with your GPU than your CPU.
Both 7700x and 9800x3D offer a similar 4K experience as they are GPUs bound. Regarding the FPS, 9800x3D offers a higher 1% lows, but the 7700x has a better average FPS.
Unless you have an RTX 5090 and 6000MHz DDR5 RAM. There will be no meaningful difference between the two CPUs.

I was told that this only applies to 4k at native and with dlss it’s a different story, since the 9800x3d shows much more performance at 1080p which is i think dlss performance, I was wondering if you could clarify anything regarding this please.

Yes, DLSS takes some load off your GPU, but not as much as you'd think. DLSS Performance mode at 4K does indeed render at internal resolution of 1080p, but there is overhead involved in the upscaling process. So, instead of getting 4X the performance, you might only get double (or less).
Either way, this upgrade isn't likely to be worth the cost unless you just don't care about the money.

With a 5070ti I probably wouldn’t.
Maybe in a few years you can get a zen 6 or 7 X3D chip and upgrade to that

It will definitely give you a noticable boost in popular eSports games like CS and Rivals. But if you're playing more demanding games like crimson desert or something along those lines it won't make a massive difference
