hey, I am building a new pc and was wondering what a good 27" 1440p monitor is for the range 150-200 dollars
I know the overall jist of monitors but still don't really know how important some things are. I am gonna use it mostly for casual gaming so it should be atleast 144hz ips panel
I have found a monitor but wondering if 1000:1 contrast ratio is a bit low - https://amzn.in/d/0724bWKn
Any advice would be appreciated!

Maybe give a mini led VA panels a look, the AOC Q27G3XMN is really good 1440p 180hrz with true HDR not the fakes 400 in the budget IPA ones.

Whats the difference between true hdr and the fake ones and how can u tell, also if there isn't true hdr but mentioned on the product isn't tht false advertising

In this price range just ignore claims of hdr.

Check out the reviews of the AOC before saying claims

I believe OP is in India though, so even if you provide a link it may be useless.

If you have a link for this monitor under $200, share it.

1000:1 is the expected contrast ratio for an IPS monitor. Most VA monitors are around 4000:1, at least if you’re sitting in the sweet spot for the viewing angles. But also generally have worse much response times especially at that price range.
But that’s kind of the toss up you have to choose between.
IPS have lower contrast and “IPS Glow” where the backlight can kind of show through around the edges when showing black. But they tend to have excellent response times, and great color, even at the lower price class. They also have very wide viewing angles meaning the images barely changes when viewed from the sides.
VA have higher contrast, and lately the color has gotten a lot better. But inexpensive VA still have very poor response times and narrow viewing angles. For many people the higher contrast is much more important than the response times.
Personally I can’t stand inverse ghosting that all but the most expensive VA panels have (an artifact of heavily overdriving the pixel changes to try and make the response times usable on VA) and don’t mind the lower contrast for gaming.

Thanks for the response, It's really sad tht you have to choose between viewing angles and good contrast ratio and other factors like ghosting too but I guess ips sounds better in my opinion I have been watching stuff on cheap ips for a long time on my laptop anyways and I can always make it a secondary monitor after I get a better one

If you can up your budget to $350, there are OLED options now.

If you have a Costco membership, there’s this option that’s slightly brighter and slightly higher refresh rate.

Any QD-OLED will have even better contrast than any VA, and better response times than any IPS.

Contrast is gonna be low on IPS unless you get really high end. Not happening for $200.
If contrast is important to you, you'd probably prefer a VA monitor.

For normal gaming and watching movie purposes will 1000:1 look bad or just fine?
9okm@reddit
It looks bad to me. But, there’s a very wide range of preferences. Some people think it looks totally fine.
I have an OLED TV though, so I’m used to perfect black levels.

I see thanks for the advice man really appreciate it

Everything mentioned in this thread varies wildly by model. There are great VA panels and awful IPS, and vice versa.
Rtings.com is a great resource if you’re looking for objective comparisons.
