There has never been a question
red286@reddit
I mean, there absolutely was before the movie came out. People lost their shit when he was announced as Batman. People forget he was a comedic actor before that, best known for Mr. Mom and Beetlejuice.
Eric848448@reddit
And Jack Nicholson was the best Joker.

A little song, a little dance - Batman’s head on a lance
BarcodeNinja@reddit
The Keaton Batman opposite Ledger's Joker is a great combo.
One-Earth9294@reddit
He was always my favorite but Rob-bat Battinson I like a lot. And if they can crank out a few more with him he might overtake ol' Stiffneck McGee.
Flat-While2521@reddit
Rob was a pretty good Batman, but I hated his Bruce Wayne
Goodly@reddit
Agreed - I do think that was more the writing though, I think Pattinson could do a great suave Bruce and I wish him they’d included that.
that1tech@reddit
Adam West would not agree. Also why doesn’t Batman dance anymore?

Gonna have to break with the generational consensus here I guess. As much as I love early Tim Burton, the Nolan movies were the best Batman flicks by far.
ammonthenephite@reddit
Agreed. I understand why some have sentimental value for the 60s and late 80s batman movies, but cinema was just more refined by the time Nolan did his thing, and it made a massive difference. I've never once wanted to go back and rewatch Keaton's Batman movie as it just feels so dated, and yet I've rewatched the Nolan films severlal times over. The soundtracks, the cinematography, the acting, everythign just vastly surpasses the other batman movies imo.
Soggy_Porpoise@reddit
I preferred Patrick Bateman.
bootsnfish@reddit
I remember a debate about if Keaton would work as Batman.
EastTXJosh@reddit
And Jack Nicholson was the best joker.
ammonthenephite@reddit
Nah, Jack Nicholson was just Jack Nicholson in the joker costume for me, he was more like a John Wayne or a George Clooney, just the same person in a different costume.
Can't top Heath Ledger, imo, that was pure acting geneous for me.
E-2theRescue@reddit
I miss the campy Batman. I love serious Batman, but the campy Batman was great, too. Especially the campy Joker.
8last@reddit
I suspect the Bale batman wont age well with future generations because of the goofy voice. Keaton played Batman and Bruce very well, in a way that is timeless.
brockhopper@reddit
That goddamn Batgrowl took me out every scene he was in in the Dark Knight.
XIENVYIX@reddit
Better Batman: Keaton
Better movies: Bale
ZestycloseProject130@reddit
Batman Returns is better than The Dark Knight. Batman 89 is better than Batman Begins. And that third Nolan flick is just, there.
But that's just like, my opinion.
AshDogBucket@reddit
Keaton wouldn't have fit in Bale's movies. That's what i love about both sets. 2 totally different takes.
PaliDudeBro@reddit
I love them all. Wildly different versions of a character that just flat out works. Every time.

Pretty sure a girl broke up with me because I said he was the best Batman. Right be before she broke it off, she asked me who my favorite Batman was. She was a Dark night fan, had "Why so serious" tattooed on her. After I told her Keaton was king, she sighed and broke up with me.
hamburgler26@reddit
The main thing for me is that Keaton's weirdness makes the perfect Bruce Wayne and Batman at the same time.
LoudAd1396@reddit
I once saw someone explain it this way: Keaton is the only actor who is believable as BOTH Wayne and Batman.
A random counterpoint: Bale: good Wayne, bad Bat
Scherzkeks@reddit
Excellent psycho
hamburgler26@reddit
Exactly.
I do think Val Kilmer was pretty good at both as well, but just not as good as Keaton, maybe if he had a darker less campy movie.
LoudAd1396@reddit
Im still rooting for the pendulum to swing so far past dark, edgy (Pattinson) batman that we just come back around to full Adam West camp again.
REMAKE BATMAN 66 YOU COWARDS!

Of the live actions? Yes.
But overall, I'd have to give it to Kevin Conroy (RIP).
zerocoolforschool@reddit
The GOAT. I was really happy that the most recent Batman actually showed him as a detective. I hate how the movies always ignore that huge part of the character.

Keaton, Lego, OG. I will street fight to defend my list.
Cheezslap@reddit
Lego is surprisingly great, gotta say. But it's Conroy at the top and I'll see you out back.
Oriasten77@reddit
I tie Keaton with Bale. Keaton is the better comic version of Bruce/Bat, Bale was more solid as the dark version.

Michael Keaton is Batman

Grammarhead-Shark@reddit
I grew up on 60s Batman repeats. I probably watched the series at least twice over by the age of 10 in 1990.
I never understood why my parents where kinda hesitant to take me to the 1989 movie. They never where the censoring kind of parents - in fact I was normally given free reign on what I watched (within limits of bedtime and homework being done) but I guess they knew the tone of the movie wasn't what 9 year old me would be thinking it would be!
So Adam West will always be my Batman.
mischievous_misfit13@reddit
Val Kilmer is still my favorite in Batman Forever. But that whole movie was a hit for me because I loved all the actors. Fast forward 2 decades and I’m watching it on shrooms and it still was amazing. What can I say, I have bad taste in movies.
