I do homebrewing, so one addiction can be dealt cheaply well the other I can dump money into...
mikemitch38@reddit
It would’ve been cheaper to be a meth head 😅
WiseDirt@reddit
Considering the prices of ammo and meth these days, you ain't kiddin.
RepulsiveUse3372@reddit
im addicted to buying guns, cigars, pokemon cards and milwaukee tools, yes im very poor and autistic

Some of us can admit that we 100% do. I’m trying to get help 😁
turbotictac@reddit
I bought an abandoned car, put a bunch of labor in it and got it all fixed up and sold it for a $7500 profit. I spent about 3k on guns/cans and put the rest in savings and STILL felt guilty so I can't imagine spending the amount some people do in here lol
Plastic-Respect-7108@reddit
What’s interesting as you can see the completely separate classes of Gun obsessed people. You have people buying 20 cheaper $300 or less guns and then you have people spending thousands on a single gun and then have the same amount of guns both ways, which is baffling. There are just so many options for every price range.
turbotictac@reddit
I have 25 or so collected over the last ~15 years. I would say the majority fall within 500-1000 with a few a bit over and a few a bit under. I tend to find that is my sweet spot where I enjoy them l, have minimal if any issues, and have some pretty neat stuff.
DrunkenArmadillo@reddit
Maybe I'm just getting old, but some of these "collections" I see seem more like hoarding than collecting. I've reached the point where most of my hunting and self defense needs are satisfied, so I've gotten more and more into stuff like black powder and muzzleloaders. To me, a collection involves acquiring firearms (replicas or reproductions because I ain't rich) to round out all of the historical examples, not a bunch of nearly identical AR's that vary slightly in caliber and barrel length. Although that one time the biggest buck I've ever seen in my region sauntered out across the pipeline a couple hundred yards away while I was hunting with my flintlock did have me wishing I had chosen to hunt that day with a more modern rifle instead.
turbotictac@reddit
I agree, that's why my recent list has included a lot of .22s for fun, and a M1 Garand for historical value. I am also keeping an eye out for a P08 Luger and other older weapons. I have 3 ARs and would like another one in 9mm and a 16" M16a2 replica but pretty much done with them beyond that.
Plastic-Respect-7108@reddit
I agree. And by no means do I think a price point buys you a specific level of quality. I love my CZ P10 F, there are plenty of guns you can find in that 500-1000 price range. Although I am also of a mind that that just covers the gun not ALL the accessories that could also go with it. I used to work in the gun industry so I am very familiar with the range of products people could accessorize with.
turbotictac@reddit
I am like that from my time in the car modification world. My favorite gun to just take out and shoot is my Walther P22 that cost me less than $250 and has had very few failures in 15k+ rounds, but I can appreciate the quality of more expensive things for sure
gunsforevery1@reddit
That’s people with collections of anything though.
Plastic-Respect-7108@reddit
Right. There is a list of ways to make it impressive. Some people are lucky and only have a handful of hobbies they focus on. But I guess if this is an older person they had a long time to work on it.
chainmail97ws6@reddit
I know it’s a sin but I finally started selling some out of my collection. I realized that I didn’t shoot many of them, and I’d rather have quality over quantity. So I sold like 7 guns.. but then I acquired 6 so it’s still a net negative. 😅
Plastic-Respect-7108@reddit
Buy what makes you happy brother. I get not shooting enough…. Ammo is not cheap.
TiggyFingers@reddit
I just spent 2600 on a Beretta, light, sight, and suppressor and I definitely won't be spending anything on guns—outside of ammo—for the foreseeable future.
turbotictac@reddit
My recent spending spree was a H&K MP5 .22LR pistol, a Century Arms CA3 that was on closeout for $650, a PSA 20" .223 wylde sabre build, a PSA 300 blackout Sabre build, a S&W Victory .22 that the LGS had for $200 new to clear inventory, and a Ruger Precision .22LR. I also bought a Silencerco Switchback, Polonium 30, and Polonium K. So I suppose it was closer to 5k in the last 6 months, but I also bought a few before selling the car..I have cut myself off any purchases until Fall.
smokeyser@reddit
FTFY
TheLawlessMan@reddit
Lmfao. Those dudes with racks full of the same overpriced ARs or who just record themselves pulling loaded guns out of a safe every day don't shoot. They just post clips on reddit and insta.
smokeyser@reddit
Are they the same? You might say that about me, but one is a modern PSA 5.56, one is an A2 clone, one is .300bo, one is .458 SOCOM, and one is a .22 for family outings when we're burning through a thousand rounds or so.
Parktio@reddit
yeah, i dont really have any guns that i keep "nice". i enjoy shooting too much to not run through a shitton of rounds lol. i just got a new Bodyguard 2.0, for example, and im already close to 600 rounds through it in about 2 weeks. i need to slow down tho 380 isnt the cheapest caliber haha.
RatCoward@reddit
I didn't... Until Abigail Spanberger...

Some of us understand that our guns won't leave us and take the kids because we're "distant" or "care more about our guns than them".
Evil4blue@reddit
I just don’t get all these people that come on here just to bitch about other people’s collections. If you can afford it and it doesn’t affect your family’s wellbeing, go for it, buy another one. Congrats on what you’ve earned so far. Enjoy them when you can.
Me, personally. I enjoy my collection of guns and I know that many on here would give me the same shit about over spending, but you know what, it’s my money…I work damn hard for it too. So if I want a different gun for every day of the month, that’s my prerogative. Plus weekend range sessions are way more fun and cheaper than therapy.
cmm324@reddit
By the number of people saying in this thread "hope my wife doesn't look under the bed" chances are it might negatively impact their family... 😅
Evil4blue@reddit
True, true. My kids enjoy going to the range with me, my wife just doesn’t care, but is happy the I took defense of the homestead seriously…very seriously.
2dazeTaco@reddit
If you have the funds, what difference does it make what someone does with their money. Do some people take it overboard? Sure.
But I also know people obsessed with other hobbies that aren’t rights and spend way more money. (Looking at you car guys and guitar players.)
I’m both a car guy and a gun guy, so I’m fucked either way. But I make decent money, max out all my retirement accounts, have no crotch goblins, pay all my bills on time, have no debt except a mortgage, and am also in a potential ban state.
It’s my money, get fucked if you’re gonna judge me for having a hobby that’s also a constitutional right.
namek0@reddit
"Crotch goblins" and "maxed out my retirement accounts" show me a more reddit comment lol

Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Sometimes posts like that honestly upset me. Bro has 12 ARs and 3 unbuilt uppers. Each of those probably cost more than 1k each. There’s no way in hell any of those rifles are different or unique enough to try and justify that costs.
You also know that most of those guns never get shot. Just a big money pit sitting there collecting dust.
GesuMotorsport@reddit
I kinda get it. Ive spent way more money than im willing to admit on guns, but i collect surplus and antique stuff mostly.
Different strokes for different folks.
Again, i hear you tho.
FlapperGasfire@reddit
You don't need to have a justification. Some people have enough money to buy more guns than you.
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Sure you don’t need a justification. Blowing tens of thousands of dollars on firearms you will never shoot is still dumb as fuck and you deserve to be judged for it.
mcbergstedt@reddit
I could see if they’re different calibers, but there’s a 99% chance half of those are just 556 m16 clones with just different barrel lengths.
gmccolgan3@reddit (OP)
Personally, I like to have a use case with each firearm I buy. But some people like collecting things. It could be trading cards or action figures or guns. No need to cast judgement on someone's hobby, especially if it doesn't affect you.
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Shooting guns is a hobby. Clicking “bid” on gun broker and then stuffing the firearm into a safe for eternity is a mental illness.
gmccolgan3@reddit (OP)
Holy gatekeeping Batman! Didn't realize everyone had to check with you first to make sure what they do with their own time and money is actually a hobby and not a mental illness.
You must be a riot at parties.
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Bros butthurt lmao
Least_Signature7879@reddit
Like golf clubs for pasture pool, need one for every way to shoot
mcbergstedt@reddit
There’s like 5 ARs there that are exactly the same.
fenuxjde@reddit
There's at least $700 worth of guns in that picture.
akg6789@reddit
If you found good deal or dealer would be bit less than that!🤭
Historylover10@reddit
At least 700? Just based on most of the pistols and AR builds that’s at least 5k right there. If each build on the low end is 500 bucks? I spy at least 10 at builds. Thats at least 5k on that wall.

Quality > Quantity
gmccolgan3@reddit (OP)
Why not both?
jail_cream@reddit
Both would be nice, but I’m coming from a poor person perspective
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Because after a certain quantity it starts becoming unfeasible to actually shoot those guns. $800 paperweights.
gmccolgan3@reddit (OP)
I already responded to a similar post, but essentially why cast judgement on someone's hobby? Maybe they like collecting them. Maybe they really enjoying building them. Maybe they go to the range 2-3 times a week and like having the variety.
WUPHF_ME_UR_TITS@reddit
My addiction switched from guns to accessories and ammo. After all the guns I have are properly equipped the cycle will start over.
