It's been about six weeks since I finished my last trek through the stars.

I'm done torturing myself. Back to Farpoint it is.
Am I the only one who watches the series basically on repeat? It's a comfort show for me, and I like to have it on in the background, even if I'm not exactly paying attention.

I personally like the bookends of TNG- makes rolling back to Farpoint like going back in time. By the time I’ve finished that episode, I’m in. Reset. During a couple of rough years in the pandemic I watched/played it all night every night. At least 13x through the whole season.

What are your favorite episodes?
Elegant_Tie_3036@reddit
Yeah this question sent me down a fun rabbit hole:
1:1-2 (Farpoint) 2:21 (Peak Performance) 3:1 (Evolution), 6 (Booby Trap), 15 (Yesterday’s Enterprise), 17 (Sins of the Father), 20 (Tin Man), 26 (Best of Both Worlds) 4:1 (Best of Both Worlds), 2 (Family), 11 (Data’s Day) 5:2 (Darmok), 18 (Cause and Effect), 26 (Time’s Arrow) 6:1 (Time’s Arrow), 4 (Relics), 5 (Schisms), 7 (Rascals), 8 (Fistful of Datas), 25 (Timescape) 7:11 (Parallels), 12 (Pegasus), 17 (Masks), 19 (Genesis), 23 (Emergence), 25-26 (All Good Things) 😊
At night, my go to was to turn on Season 3 and play 1-6 or 17-20, knowing that generally if I woke up, I would have a favorite on until I could get back to sleep (without having to fumble for a remote). Although, in retrospect, I never understood why the theme song had to be SO much louder than the general episode. Those horns!!

Great choices.
Elegant_Tie_3036@reddit
Do you have favorites? Or are you a “love the whole series” fan?
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I have my favorites, and you mentioned quite a few, if not all. The only one you're missing is my absolute favorite, The Royale.
Sure, it's a bottle episode that means nothing, but it's so much fun!
I also love all the Klingon episodes, even The Emissary.
b5wolf@reddit
Currently on my 6th or 7th rewatch. SO asks why I have it one while doing chores. It's because I'm so familiar with it, I don't need to see the video part to follow the story anymore.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I'm the same.
bannock4ever@reddit
TNG is alway in rotation but I’ve started watch more Voyager, The Orville and Lower Decks recently. Not sure why I have never gotten hooked by DS9.
plastikb0y@reddit
Too much politics and not enough adventure and discovery? I do love DS9 but it misses what TNG and Voyager had
Donald_Raper@reddit
yeah, that's it for me. it's too emotionally draining for me. deep space nine is awesome, but it lacks The adventure like you're saying.
ChunkBluntly@reddit
If I'm watching Trek it's usually to unwind a bit. I really enjoy DS9 too...but it winds me.
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
DS9 is better than Voyager.
bannock4ever@reddit
Honestly, and this is a bad reflection on me, it's just not aesthetically pleasing to me. It's so dark and grey. The station is all dank and cold metal. And I hated the new uniforms - which have even more black material and they just look like jumpsuits for technicians. I also hated the uniforms on Voyager and Enterprise too. Maybe a HD remaster would change that but that's not gonna happen unless someone at Paramount loves Star Trek and doesn't mind losing millions of dollars.
That said, I really liked some of the stories and anything to do with Garak, Sisko and O'Brien.
ChunkBluntly@reddit
I've done the full series twice, and occasionally go back for fun episodes. I don't feel like there are as many fun standalone episodes as there are in TNG.
I'll think about scenes I enjoyed and go to watch the episode, then remember that funny scene is wedged between two 20 minute blocks of brooding and turmoil.
Winter_Possession152@reddit
Comfort show for sure, doing TOS+TNG+DS9+VOY+ENT once a year.
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
You must have much time.
Winter_Possession152@reddit
Well, actually, no. I have to fit in SGC, SGA, Eureka and Scrubs in as well 😛 and then repeat.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
How do you like the new Scrubs? I love it, and I kinda knew >!Cox would be sick by the way he was acting and the Carhartt.!<
pasher71@reddit
Well, not on repeat. I usually do a full run through about twice a year. The Orville also scratches that itch.
tycoon282@reddit
Didn't read what sub I was on, was like "damn he watches TNG ds9 voy ent" twice a year?
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
Cries that TOS isn't part of your list
tycoon282@reddit
I've not actually watched the OG myself yet lol, well bar the cage... Wasn't sure I could get past the 60s bits of it
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
It's worth it for the Klingons alone. It's where it all began. So it's a must-watch at least once.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I guess I do one quarterly.
daninater@reddit
No, I do too. I self host it using plex then after every episode every season I start again and skip the holideck episodes and ones I don't like as much. I have the blu-ray remastered version but it's not streaming.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I bought the Blu-rays used off eBay for something stupid like $100. I love the remasters.
imafrk@reddit
wait until you find out about r/TNGSleepers
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I've listened to the D ambient bridge noise to sleep more times than I can count.
TyranidTiramisu@reddit
I do a full run across TOS, ENT, TNG, VOY and DS9 yearly, but a lot of the time it is on for background. I am having medical complications so I get the comfort show aspect. I bought all of the series, specifically for the hospital trips. Hospital TV sucks lol.
psychodreamr@reddit
Hang in there dude
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
Best wishes.
SouthpawXtn@reddit
Oh, it's always in my rotation. Really, any of the old Trek's are (I usually just put them on when they're on H&I in the evenings). Sometimes, I do just put on a marathon of TNG or DS9 while I'm doing chores or something.
B3ximus@reddit
I used to. I taped them all off the tv when they were first on and then wore those tapes out. I miss having the time now as an adult.
airborne327@reddit
I literally had a conversation with my wife last night about starting over with TOS. It's just one night a week. But, I need my ST!
