Insane considering these just came out and were “only” 2-3 million. Not even sure if these sold out instantly, I know the T.33 Spyder was available to buy for a decent amount of time before it sold out.
BrunoEye@reddit
It also seems like it'll be the better car.
woodsides@reddit
They were around £2.36M GBP at launch, assume £2.4M GBP after options, which is around $3.25M USD. Add a 15% tariff and that's $3.75M. EPA and show and display certification will run you close to $300-500k, so that's already $4.2M+ before state taxes just to get it into the country and federalized. So double at $8M is not too bad of a premium in today's hypercar market. That car is probably the last of its kind.
BillyJohnsFinds@reddit
Not sure about it being the last of its kind. The company is still around and have said they can continue to build pure ICE cars into the forceable future (few years ago they were saying they will have to do hybrids but luckily that has changed)
vfxguy2077@reddit (OP)
Right! Around two thirds were sold before the public showing in 2020. After the public showing they were all sold within 48 hours. T.33 Spyder took quite some time for sure, well over a year after the public launch. Probably because of the significant price increase over the Coupe.
schultzM@reddit
So will GMA ban this quick flippers or will they also be given slots for all the other cars?
Being that they all sat down to have spec sessions with Gordon I hope the former
RevvedUpLikeADeuce09@reddit
I don't think Murray or his company care based on what happened with the GMSV S1 LM. One man commissioned all five with the intention of selling four of them privately or at auction, and kept the last one for himself. Plus, I believe this guy was open with Murray with what he has going to do.
r34p3rex@reddit
I mean .. it's literally a special vehicle commissioned by the client. murray could charge the client however much he wants to make, don't see why he'd ever have an issue with the client reselling the other examples in the production run
RiftHunter4@reddit
I feel like it's naive for anyone dealing in the $2M+ market to expect people to sit on these cars for long.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
For his company size, I don’t see that possible. Even if he wants, he can’t.
schultzM@reddit
Once the next T.33 variant will be revealed and the first batch gets delivered I think the picture will be clear
vfxguy2077@reddit (OP)
I hope so too. He wanted to sell the cars to people who actually will drive them so it's a shame it gets sold so quickly (for a profit). I didn't expect that from T.50 owners. I guess it's easy money.
badpuffthaikitty@reddit
Gordon, can you build another cheap sports car?
Looseball@reddit
What year is it? That color looks clean.
ElChaz@reddit
At the launch they said these cars were good to buy because "F1s are so expensive people are scared to drive them."
Oh sweet irony.
dabocx@reddit
Well F1s are still 3 times this price so it’s kind of true. I still can’t imagine driving something this expensive though. I’d be so stressed out
Potential-Ant-6320@reddit
For the people I know who own cars like these the value of their most expensive cars is a smaller percent of their wealth than most middle class people’s cars are.
If you have $500k in housing equity and $500k in retirement and a $50k car that’s roughly 5% of your networth. If you have over $200m 5% is ten million. A Gordon Murray car holds its value much better than most $50k cars too.
Agloe_Dreams@reddit
This all honestly makes sense. The T.50 is legitimately just a better F1. In that context, it almost sounds like a steal.
AnonymousEngineer_@reddit
At this price level, cars basically become automotive art. People are paying for history and provenance, not the actual car itself which almost certainly doesn't get driven.
RiftHunter4@reddit
Part of what's amazing about the T50 is that you can drive them. The price makes the F1 scary to drive but the maintenance is the real kicker. They are difficult to own. A major goal of the T50 was to make it easier to own but picking things like tires and consumables that are easier to get.
Agloe_Dreams@reddit
The thing is that the F1 is kinda the exception to this rule. There’s a ton of famous owners who drive them all the time. It helps that they are all manual.
AnonymousEngineer_@reddit
Unless some madman has converted one, don't the GTRs have a sequential?
Zarrex@reddit
Crazy that they really made a better F1 in almost every way except how the thing looks. And then they went and made the S1 LM which looks exponentially better lol
atomicskiracer@reddit
It is a fascinating thing, and I believe the ethos behind GMA is leading an overall market shift. You can get an ev for under 100k that does 0-60 in under 2 seconds. Unreal performance…and because of that, the market is shifting towards experience > speed.
costafilh0@reddit
A couple months ago one sold for $5M.
Finessence@reddit
How much do y’all think the three seat aspect to this vehicle (and other GMAs) is contributing to the high secondary market prices? I’m guessing it’s rather significant because it’s such a unique feature, making it stand out in the multi million dollar car market.
fastbeemer@reddit
I don't have Instagram and it won't load without it. Wish I could see what you are talking about.
vfxguy2077@reddit (OP)
Does it work in incognito? It's just a picture from the T.50 that sold. I posted the IG text in the Reddit post. Otherwise you can see some of the pictures of the T.50 in this article from Hagerty.
