Paying money to technically down-badge a car is kinda funny
morelsupporter@reddit
still waiting for the q50 eau rouge
PlatinumElement@reddit
Yessssssssss! Count me in. I’m already sold, but offering legacy iconic colors like bayside blue or midnight purple would be amazing while we’re at it.
aprtur@reddit
Bayside yes, but normal Skylines never came with MNP. Active Red or Lightning Yellow would be cool to see make a comeback, though - those are probably the most bright Skyline colors ever, sincere the majority were grey or white.
PlatinumElement@reddit
The current gen Skyline 400R was offered in Midnight purple (and marketed as Black Opal on the Infiniti Q50 red sport.)
I’d be good with that on the new one. Still very chroma-shift, less in your face purple.
aprtur@reddit
IIRC, they only made 500 Black Opal edition RS400s, which is....not so normal...lol. I agree that it'd be a good addition to the lineup, but Nissan seems to save it for very limited edition cars.
Eggith@reddit
Pretty sure the Z has an MNP option since like 2024. Not sure if it's limited edition or not
RJsRX7@reddit
MNP on the Z was '26 Heritage only as far as I can tell.
Arixsus@reddit
That is correct. But only like 500 of them made world wide and like 300 in the states.
aprtur@reddit
As noted by the other poster, 2026 Heritage Edition only - the color that came to it a few years ago was Bayside Blue. All that aside, that's not a Skyline - we were discussing normal production Skyline colors, and the Q50 gets a pass as a Skyline since it's the exact same car, just rebadged.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
The metallic blue they used on the Q50/Q60 would be gorgeous to bring back as well.
Witness95@reddit
I would be surprised if they didn't offer those. The Z currently has Bayside blue and midnight purple options.
eggdropk@reddit
Seems like they’re testing the waters for that rumored move to real names across Infiniti
flapsmcgee@reddit
It seems like a no brainer to just call it the Skyline. It would definitely get more attention that way.
RiftHunter4@reddit
To be fair, the Skyline nameplate carries FAR more weight among enthusiasts than the Q50 ever did. Even if its not a GT-R, people would love to see the Skyline name finally come to the states.
I went to half a dozen car shows last year and there were Skylines at every single one and they always drew attention. Its time to bring the name to the states.
roman_maverik@reddit
I don't think anyone's disputing this. The only reason that Infiniti moved to alphabet numbers was because of Johan de Nysschen, and his obsession with competing with Audi
Since then, both Acura and Infiniti have acknowledged that their main customers aren't Audi or BMW crosshoppers, but rather people who want Honda + and Nissan +, which is a real market niche
Even current Infiniti execs acknowledge the need for change here
alex-andrite@reddit
Weren’t Infiniti models still just letter(s) + numbers before the Q though? The Q just made it more uniform. I remember G35/G37, FX35?, QX56… don’t remember any others lol
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
G(25,35,37), M(35,37,45,56), FX(35,37,50), EX(35), JX(35), QX(56)
T-Baaller@reddit
literally the last post here had upvoted comment thinking half the subreddit would rage if there were more pedestrian skylines available outside Japan.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
Skyline > G > Q
LogicWavelength@reddit
As someone who has dreamed of a stateside Skyline for 27ish years, I’d love to see a proper Skyline. And I don’t mean just the GT-R. They need to offer a coupe and a sedan, both need to be RWD/optional AWD, and they need a manual transmission.
Now, the manual trans/RWD can be a special sporty option with lower volume or something, but it needs to exist.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
GT-R is definitely better with Infiniti, selling under Nissan dealership was a bad decision.
RiftHunter4@reddit
Nissan should probably consider copying Toyota and putting all their enthusiast products under a single product line with a distinct name. It doesn't have ti be NISMO but they should do something. I feel like thwir enthusiast portfolio in the west has been incredibly inconsistent with naming: SE-R, GT-R, NISMO, Red Line, etc.
They need a single term or brand so that its easy to tell what the fun stuff is. In the current state if things, everyone assumes that if it has a Nissan badge, its basically some kind of Altima but that's definitely not true when it comes to their enthusiast stuff. And that includes the Altima SE-R.
PEEWUN@reddit
Autech. They should use Autech.
sephirothwasright@reddit
I don't agree with that. It was never meant to sell in volume and they had had no problems moving units until it got significantly long in the tooth.
TurboFucked@reddit
At least for their sedans. What's crazy is the Z outsells the Q50 in the US. We get it pretty much out of pity.
Seeker80@reddit
There's some nice potential for that, but they just need to choose good names.
A successor to the FX/QX70 would be very welcome as well. They could pull a "370Z->Z" and redo the interior/exterior on the platform while changing the engine, and that would probably be fine for now. The VR engines would really give that thing a new lease on life. Not sure what naming convention or theme Infiniti would go with. Just to be similar to 'Skyline,' maybe 'Silhouette?' It got used for an Oldsmobile minivan, so not much of note there.
A theme would be good to have, just to keep things rooted and making sense. As bonkers and haphazard as TVR sounded, they did stuff like ancient or mythological things for some vehicles. The Tamora was named for a villainous queen of the Goths in a Shakespearean play. Typhon was the 'father of all monsters' in Greek mythology. The Sagaris is a type of battle-axe. Choosing a naming convention and sticking to it won't quite be 'make-or-break,' but it will be very important.
Phosphorus444@reddit
So a Nissan badge?
NightFuryToni@reddit
Actually the current gen Skyline has Infiniti badges in Japan as well.

That doesn’t look right at all. Q50 looks more aesthetic

Only on like the highest trim for some reason. Other trims still use a Nissan badge
https://www3.nissan.co.jp/vehicles/new/skyline.html
Wierd657@reddit
Only as of the current facelift. All current gen prefacelifted Skylines had the Infiniti badge.
JediLion17@reddit
Man, they do make it confusing lol
NightFuryToni@reddit
I guess this harks back to the 80-90s where each model has its own badge.

V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
It’s no more after they released second facelift one, they removed back Nissan badge. Infiniti is death in Japan.
Sinakers@reddit
And all they (Nissan) sell in India is a pair of raised sub-4m hatches with engines that wheeze at highway speeds. Man I'm so jealous of y'll 😭😭😭
JediKnightaa@reddit
is this gonna be the Holden badge at Pontiac dealer kinda thing
Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
I find it very funny that Americans really wanted the Holden badge and Australians really wanted the Chevrolet badge, ultimate "grass is greener" moment
Wiggles69@reddit
Urgh. I really don't miss the P plate special VYs with Bow ties, steelies on the rear and unmuffled exhausts.
aprtur@reddit
I'm here for it - I still think it's dumb Toyota won't let you get the much nicer Crown badges on either the Signia or the Crossover that we get here.
solo118@reddit
Might just bring life back to Infiniti, in the early 2000s those G35's and FX's were selling like hotcakes
s3cf_@reddit
ok, so when ?
PEEWUN@reddit
It will get to the point that the Infiniti versions will start commanding premiums once this goes out of production.
MaxAyePower@reddit
I'm a GM guy, but I will likely be cross shopping the Infiniti Skyline with the 4 door Camaro in a few years. The retro, muscular vibe was the right call.
kstetter@reddit
It's unconfirmed, and unlikely that the next Camaro is going to be a 4-door. GM Authority has said that a Buick and Cadillac sedan is in the works. I just hope the Buick is designed well.
You would most likely be cross-shopping a Infiniti sedan and Buick sedan.
NeatlyCritical@reddit
See that's not hard right? Just offer appearance to match the other car.
costafilh0@reddit
How easy, to remove money from the weak minded.
kilertree@reddit
Like the Chevy SS's Holden badges
Silver_Branch3034@reddit
If Nissan / Infiniti fully lean into the Skyline heritage and it’s good they could sell like hotcakes, this is a monumental idea. It’s awesome to see Nissan back on the horse and doing exciting project like the skyline and Xtera.
revvolutions@reddit
How different is this gonna be from the current Q50, the current Z is a rebody with the same chassis number, R-Z34.
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
I was saying this in the last thread about this car. They should absolutely do this, give the people what they want.
StinkySoggyUnderwear@reddit
Does this include the whole RHD situation?
