No surprise. When more Chinese car buyers are now buying their cars from their own domestic automakers and geopolitical tension, Japanese automakers are now facing more sales losing.
Maybe, Toyota and Nissan only can still be to stay in China in future.

China and Japan never had great relationships but Japanese automakers have been doing well until recently. This has more to do with the fact that their products are just not competitive anymore.
In the past reliability and efficiency were a major selling point for Japanese brands. Neither matter anymore in the age of EVs.
These days the Chinese value EV performance/range, luxury and tech over anything else, all areas the Japanese brands are hopelessly behind.
I can’t think of any reason to buy a Honda as a Chinese consumer these days.

Germany is becoming one of the largest seniorhomes on Earth, I guess their luxury auto brands can last only to an extent...

Partnership with a big China auto corporation is the only way Japanese makers are surviving there. Toyota has BYD and GAC, Nissan has Dongfeng, Mazda has Changan. These partnerships let them release modern EVs very quickly, though their DNA is slipping along the way.

Toyota, and now it seems Nissan as well, have joint-venture EVs that are competitive in China. Toyota sales have even been increasing as of late; they’re pretty much the only foreign automaker to achieve that.
Honda… not so much. At this point it’s safe to say that their Ye series has been a flop.
