Do you support the accession of turkey to the EU?

No problem AS LONG AS:
- they stop bothering the Greeks, give back Cyprus, and the EEZ of greek islands
- they recognize their genocidal past
- they revert to a democratic, laic state, with the rue of law etc.
mk553377@reddit
Europe should first give Palastine back and end there colonial project.
EuSouUmAnjo@reddit
Lol - like Europe owns anything Palestine or has any influence on what happens there. It's amazing how you arrive at this strange conclusion. You seem to suffer from a serious case of information intoxication. I wish you a prompt recovery!

For the genocide part, I'm talking about Türkiye times, like what happened to the Armenians. And overall, a better sentiment towards the Kurds and their place in the turkish nation also makes sense.
thatMrGecko@reddit
armenian genocide was conducted by the ottoman regime and put into practice by local authorities in the eastern anatolian region. turkish republic didn't even exist yet.
I would go a bit more into detail, but when a turk starts to talk about the armenian genocide in an objective way the askbalkan mods go crazy. recently a comments where I openly condemn the genocide got deleted for "pushing an agenda" even though the discussion was about something else entirely.
KuroNekoX3@reddit
Kurds are represented very well in the government and other parties. You guys are decades late about that.
EuSouUmAnjo@reddit
I hope you're right - but they still are a lot of them in turkish prisons, are they not? But whatever I don't know and goes in the good direction is good news.
SuccotashResident571@reddit
We do not have any problems with greeks, their government is the one who keeps harrasing turkey. We dont have a hatred toward greeks themselfs. Ahh the genocide, as the West claims it. İt was a immigration of armenians to syria in case they sided with russia and revolted. No turk forcefully killed them. This does not count as a genocide. Why did they died? Bc ottomans couldnt provide security, food, water or clothing, plus it made them extra weak to diseases. Greek islands? WHY WE CANT HAVE ANYTHİNG? You couldnt win in Greco turkish War. Try again if you want. We are not trying to get more islands or anything. Democracy? Absolutely i can agree on you Abt this.

Most of the Turks posting here aren't from the Balkans.
So, not Turks living in the Balkans, and not descendants of Balkan Turks in Eastern Thrace, the European part of Turkey.
Most of the Turks posting here are from deepest Eastern Anatolia.
You're wondering how I came to this conclusion?
The answer is simple: it's the questions and comments they post that reveal their origins.
A native of Thrace or a Balkan Turk would never ask such questions. They have a completely different character: laid-back, politically unmotivated, hardly religious, and most people in Thrace aren't even interested in what's going on outside of Thrace.
These questions from Greek Turks here are also Anatolian, not Thracian. Feedback geben
TheRedBaron-7@reddit
Yea, who doesn't know the politically unmotivated Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a native of Saloniki?

kurt is wolf as far as I know. What does atakurt mean symbolize?
Light0fDesire@reddit
instead of Atatürk, he used atakürt, not wolf, its ethnicity in this case
RegionSignificant977@reddit
Kurd?
TheRedBaron-7@reddit
Yes. It's a name to mock Atatürk. Also, the account is one month old and he chose a picture of the biggest Erdogan enjoyers in the biggest Erdogan enjoying city, his home town of Rize.

SansBouillie@reddit
I don't think they have to change anything. I would accept them the way they are ♥️
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
I agree that with the current situation, Turkiye is incompatible with EU.
But the thing is...
Even if Turkey was a extremely democratic confederation like Switzerland and 60% of its population was irreligious, it's still couldn't be accepted by other EU members.
EuSouUmAnjo@reddit
I think you're wrong. If the values and practices were aligned, there would be no problem in welcoming turkey into the club.

Turkey has a population of 80 million; even if we were a completely Christian country, it would not be accepted into eu. Western European centrism would shift towards Eastern Europe and the south. Authority of France and Germany would be weakned. We were probably treated in a similar way to Russia.
yourdaddyxoxowuw@reddit
In Netherlands u have a lot of Turkish and everything it s okay what are u talking about?
St_Ascalon@reddit
How is this related to what I said?
The European Parliament is determined by population size. Germany and France are the largest countries. Why would they share their political power with another country with more population and less gdp?
yourdaddyxoxowuw@reddit
On a social level the Netherlands example proves that cultural and community integration can work (this is what I was trying to say my bad). However the main issue remains the EU operates on a delicate balance of power. With a population of over 85 million Turkey would immediately become the most influential voice in the European Parliament weakening the traditional Franco Germans leadership (I totally agree with u) if we only fear population size it implies the EU is more of a geopolitical power club than one based strictly on shared values. But we can do reforms for this.
St_Ascalon@reddit
It's certainly nice to act like as if there's a higher purpose behind it. But in the end it is a geopolitical power club because there are way bigger players in the world now. If they didn't exist, Europe would be the same as it was before.
I'm old enough to remember a time when Turkey was a democracy and Europeans supported Erdoğan to the very end. During Sarkozy era France always said that Turkey would never join Europe.
yourdaddyxoxowuw@reddit
When we talk about power even a small country Rn can use Veto to cancel things.
ZestycloseHat4990@reddit
Even if I supported it there are already two states that would veto the shit out of it
