The diaphragm looks real. Usually fake Recaros have metal springs rather than the very distinct rubber/burlap screen type material. I dunno, I’d lean toward real….
dodster_@reddit
I'm with you on leaning towards real. I've never seen fakes that have ever attempted to copy the look of a genuine diaphragm.
But given the general age of most srd's, I'd guess that these have been reupholstered, and possibly had the side plastics replaced with unbranded generics

News to me they make fake seats lol.
They make fake everything so it makes sense, but wth.
mr_j_12@reddit
Fake recaros are super common. As are any major brand seat.

Check out Aliexpress. You could buy 10 sets of these for $100 a set. I live in Thailand and EVERYTHING is at risk of duplicates. I had to buy my warbro fuel pump from Australia to ensure it wasnt a duplicate.
mega_rad@reddit
I would guess like 80% of the bride seats you see in cars are not authentic

It's like the whole "rule 34" thing, except it's that if someone makes a thing, a fake version exists
I didn't realise how wide spread this was until recently, like "second hand iPhones" on FB marketplace are often fakes and are actually new but the box is harder to replicate than the phone, so they sell it as used to remove that issue. Supposedly North Face outdoor gear and fashion wear is one of the biggest faked brands, apparently all because superdry cracked down on the fakes of theirs and so the people making forgeries adapted their tooling to make north face stuff instead
Local_Bobcat_2000@reddit
They even make fake boxes and even fake certificates. So be careful what you buy.

Aren't these from FD2 type-r? I thought they actually were made by recaro even though they had type-r badges.
Tronkfool@reddit
Good enough for the car that they are in.
TheBanManX2@reddit
Not when you crash they're not.
TheBanManX2@reddit
To the people downvoting my comment. If you want to put your life in cheap knockoff seats that are not crash test rated go right the fuck ahead and use a seat like this.
I will laugh my ass off at your rip news story.

A first gen Camaro deserves better . Wtf you smoking.

yes the rando on fb marketplace lol

The labels on the underneath of Recaros typically list the colour combination in German (i.e. Schwarz/Rot), the model number (usually a number in the format xxx.xx.xxxx) and have a date of manufacture, so based on that I'm going to call these suspect.
RecentRegal@reddit
Was there really any need to drive into them? Even if it was the same car they were clearly coming to a stop?!
pistonsoffury@reddit
Way too many SRD clones out there to trust those. It's probably the most counterfeited/copied seat ever.
Francis_Dollar_Hide@reddit
Look at the print job on the decals. Garbage.
