Based on this video OP uploaded 6 days ago, I'm genuinely concerned:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRvLVcZtu1Q
lakantala@reddit
I thought it was just for a picture I didn't know they're using it as a helmet 😭
daBriguy@reddit
Major school shooter vibes
KindaDim@reddit
I don't think you should say that about someone :(
daBriguy@reddit
You are definitely right. The video just eerily reminds me of some of the videos they found of the Columbine shooters
KindaDim@reddit
I get it, but there's a big difference between real weapons and airsoft, and it's a really insensitive thing to say
xb4r7x@reddit
Why is it insensitive to call someone out for their own unhinged behavior?
I've been around firearms my entire life. I play airsoft.
There actually isn't a major difference in how airsoft and real weapons are supposed to be treated. Even an airsoft gun can cause serious lifelong injury or death to someone if it's used incorrectly. Especially when you consider that they look indistinguishable from the real thing. Literally last week someone in Denver was killed by the police for waving an airsoft gun around in his own yard - literally the same thing OP was doing.
People who cosplay like this with something that can injure someone are terrifying and should be put in their place so they can learn how to behave properly.
KindaDim@reddit
How is someone using an airsoft gun in their own yard being shot something you use to criticize the victim instead of to criticize the police for doing what police always do? Give me a break lol
You do not know this person. They do not know you. To sit there and label them a school shooter because they made a music video with an airsoft gun is completely uncalled for
xb4r7x@reddit
No, you give me a break. Police spent over an hour asking the guy nicely to stop waving a real-looking gun at them, he didn't, and he died because of it. That was his choice. Don't pretend this was some kind of Alex Pretti overreach when it very clearly is not.
You're right, I don't know this person. What I do know is that in almost every single mass shooter incident we look back through their internet presence and find "music videos" and other weird-ass shit like this, and they're always surrounded by people who saw it and said/did nothing.
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck man... no matter how you swing it, OP's behavior is abnormal at best.
KindaDim@reddit
You were the one who chose to word the airsoft case that way. I didn't care to learn more about it. We could discuss back and forth whether a person deserves it or not but at the end of the day it doesn't matter at all for this conversation.
This person was using a fake gun in a music video they made. It's art. You might not like it, you might find it weird. I do personally, it's not my type of culture. But it's none of your fucking business AS someone who doesn't know them to go snooping through their business looking for something to justify your judgment of them. The original post was just a picture of their eccentric outfit and their bike, and yet someone went snooping for something to judge, and here you are defending that.
Don't think that you dissing her because of her interests is some fucking 'moral good' that will help prevent her from committing some heinous crime. What you're doing is more universally referred to as 'bullying', a practice which is significantly more likely to increase the chances of a heinous crime than any interest in airsoft weapons or eccentric music. I'd trust 1000 people like her over a single JROTC kid.
Stay in your fucking lane. This is an electric bike sub. She showed an electric bike. Not an emoto. A dangerous helmet perhaps. But she's predominantly getting lambasted not for the helmet's safety, but because she likes things you people find weird. She didn't post anything airsoft related here, the fucking judgmental cowards in this sub took it upon themselves to find something to complain about because they can't handle someone having a bit of quirk.
xb4r7x@reddit
I "worded it that way" and provided you with a link. I assumed you were smart enough to follow it and read for two minutes to understand the context of the conversation.
Post shit publicly online and it's open for criticism. Welcome to the internet. If OP doesn't like that, they can keep their oddly threatening weird videos to themselves. I'm not "defending snooping", because seeking out information that OP posted publicly on the internet isn't snooping at all - it's presumably what they wanted to happen when they posted it.
Calling something abnormal abnormal is not bullying, so you can just fuck right off with that nonsense. I'm not even dissing them, I don't give a fuck what OP does or decides to look like. I'm merely pointing out similarities between their behavior and the behavior of others throughout recent history.
Also, from the "music video", OP is clearly a male or trans, probably better if you stop misgendering them. Could be misconstrued as bullying.
KindaDim@reddit
Only point you got me on was the last one, good job there. The rest is still you lambasting someone for their interests and insinuating they're a bad person for liking them. You can deflect and justify all you want but that's all it is
xb4r7x@reddit
Got it, so we should ignore bizarre anti-social behavior that could be (and often is) indicative of serious problems simply because the person engaged in them might just have weird interests. Makes a ton of sense.
KindaDim@reddit
What's antisocial about FAKE guns and silly helmets and electric bikes? Is every interest that isn't heteronormative and ciscoded antisocial? Or is expecting that of everyone considerably more antisocial than letting people enjoy what they want and judging them ONLY by their actions? I did a short peruse through their posts to get a better picture, and this person cares about the genocide in Gaza, trans rights, history in general, and happens to have eccentric interests with likely some correlation to their neurodivergence. That reminds me of myself. And I was also told multiple times in school that I gave off school shooter vibes. Do you know what that was like? Do you stop for a second to think? Or is a person being weird and counterculture the end all, be all? I didn't end up shooting up a school, thanks for asking, and I was traumatized by the fact that anyone thought such a degrading and dehumanizing thing of me just because I wasn't a carbon copy of the ROTC kids. Your words have meaning. I don't care if it's the internet. What you say matters, and just because it's 'normal' to be insufferable on the internet for no good reason doesn't mean you have to follow suit.
david-saint-hubbins@reddit
Apparently you missed the parts where OP repeatedly posts about school shootings, mass killings, suicide attacks, having suicidal depression, and how his mom killed herself. These are all legitimate red flags.
KindaDim@reddit
And the average suburban white woman watches true crime. Point being?
A significantly larger red flag is ignoring social issues and thinking such morbid fascinations are positive to act on. Morbid interests don't precede harmful actions and for many people actually do the opposite, reminding them of the sanctity of life. I don't personally get it, but this person caring about social issues, including those that don't apply to them, is more of a sign against antisocial behavior than the majority of people in this thread trying to manufacture the consent to villainizing someone for being strange.
david-saint-hubbins@reddit
Also, out of curiosity, what signs, if any, would you qualify as legitimate red flags?
KindaDim@reddit
Good question. I'd prefer to look at someone's actions and values far sooner than their interests. I'm by no means comfortable with what they like, but I genuinely don't know how it affects them, and so it's not my place to project. If they were acting in accordance or had values that aligned with it, we'd be having an entirely different conversation. But based on what I CAN see (very little), they have progressive and empathetic values, which malalign with the assertions pointed at them. If that weren't the case, I'd be less likely to be defending them.
At the end of the day, none of us are therapists (taking a gamble by assuming that lol) and so it's kinda unfair to label anything short of being a bigot or torturing animals as deserving of the label of antisocial, far less school shooter.
david-saint-hubbins@reddit
Ok, well actual research shows that there are particular behaviors/signs that are strongly correlated with mass shooters, and you seem to either be unaware of that, or actively choosing to discount them in favor of your own particular values.
By my count, based on a quick scan of his post history, OP demonstrates at least 10 out of the 17 red flags listed here:
https://www.tccd.edu/about/emergency-information/know-what-to-do/active-shooter/red-flags/
xb4r7x@reddit
It's also true that most people who do commit acts of violence also have "morbid fascinations". I agree that it's not a guarantee they're at risk for commiting any violent acts, but is IS a risk factor.
david-saint-hubbins@reddit
You're being willfully obtuse.
xb4r7x@reddit
Wait, you SNOOPED?? gasp
I think the fact that we're even having this conversation is evidence that this standard has been met.
Since you snooped on OP's public posting history, I think you're probably aware that their interest in "history in general" is actually more of an interest in war-related death, dying, and violence. OP has posted videos of a person's last breath. They've posted pictures of dead soldiers. They've posted pictures of decapitated people. This is a little different than a passing interest in world history.
I'm neurodivergent. We don't just get to label all odd behavior as neurodivergence. That's a cop-out. I'll also point out that maybe OP isn't neurodivergent and that calling them neurodivergent may be insulting. You don't need to have autism or ADHD to wear weird clothes.
Happened to me too. Know exactly what it was like, thanks.
I have nothing against OP being counterculture at all. I've said nothing about what they're wearing or their ebike, all that is perfectly fine and I encourage them to be who they want to be. What I take issue with is videos depicting violent display of what looks like a firearm by a person who does a whole lot of posting online about people dying. Those things throw up red flags for me (and most people). I don't even think there's anything wrong with it - it's a free country and they're welcome to do those things - but I don't need to be comfortable with it, and I'm allowed to say so.
I'm sorry you didn't have the support system you need to avoid feeling traumatized by people calling out your differences. That sucks. People said similar shit about me and it didn't really affect me at all because I was privileged to have plenty of support.
I'm not being insufferable, I'm just having a conversation about odd behavior on the internet, sorry if that's offensive to you.
KindaDim@reddit
First thing to clear up. Their profile claims they're neurodivergent.
Second thing to clear up. I reject that definition of antisocial because it's too subjective and literally ANYTHING can meet the definition based on the whims of society. Being gay or trans or anti-apartheid or thinking billionaires should be taxed or ebiking instead of using a REAL bike all currently could be argued to meet the definition. That shit sucks. By antisocial, I mean an action or attitude that is actively DETRIMENTAL to individuals or groups of people for self serving reasons.
Third thing not quite to clear up but to comment on. I find their tastes uncomfortable. I don't like the things they like, I would not be able to stomach watching it personally. I can't even handle horror. But like I said to that other person, plenty of people watch true crime documentaries without it being detrimental. I don't KNOW this person, so while it makes me uncomfortable, unless I know their actions match their interests (or they want them to), it's not my place to shit on them for it, and it doesn't help anyone.
As for the rest, not a ton for me to respond to. It's mostly just you being thoughtful. Thanks for that. All in all, I was just very thrown off by these threads. I know this sub to be an EXTREMELY judgmental place and as such defaulted to defending someone who I saw wearing clothing I relate to and having at least some similar values. If the threads had been calling out their posting of gore, I reckon I wouldn't have responded this way because it makes me uncomfortable as well. But most was attacking their music taste and, again, interest in fake weapons. You had to scroll further to find the music video than gore, so why was that what was talked about? It's just so weird to me and I don't understand. A person being deserving of critique doesn't mean they're deserving of ALL critique, y'know?
niffcreature@reddit
Dude, you're wrong. "Behavior" like this simply has no bearing on whether someone would go try to murder people. It doesn't matter if it reminds you of a school shooter. I think that depends a lot on the social life and support that they do have. In some areas/communities, lemme tell you this person would fit right in a be weird with a bunch of other weirdos, and just because you haven't seen that doesn't mean it's not there. I used to hang out with a bunch of queers who were in a motorcycle club and had a slingshot range and they were all super nice.
The content this person posts also has no bearing on their mental health. They might know exactly what they're doing here and intend to stir up the type of reaction you're having. But honestly the way you're talking about this person, the way you're seeing them through this lens would probably do a hell of a lot to worsen any sociopathic behavior a vulnerable person might have.
There are a few different reasons why tons of school shootings only happen here in the US. Jumping to conclusions about people, judging them harshly based on how they express themselves definitely does not help.
xb4r7x@reddit
What criteria do you think I'm judging them on? Because it's not their appearance.
OP posts endlessly about people dying, and posts a threatening "music video" online. What are people supposed to make of that? "Oh he's just a little eccentric"? Please.

I’m sorry. I did a search. None of those sci fi helmets on Amazon is made for a real life bicycle. Most are like $30-$80 and the main description says party or festive.
I understand you’re probably a woman and want to look cool or sexy but your head/brain is the most important organ in your body and you should be protecting it with a real certified helmet. Not something made for cosplay.
If you’re riding around cars or going anything faster than 10 mph. You are not very smart. It’s your head so it’s whatever.
Anybody who read this. DO NOT buy a helmet made for cosplay.
Sataypufft@reddit
If they're dressing like this, riding a folding e bike, and making goofy music videos that go soft, their brain is probably not important to OP.
BeatrixPlz@reddit
Pardon my ignorance but my helmet from Target was $30. Does that mean it’s bad? It’s not decorative, but I go fast on my bike and I’m a little worried now.
McSavagery@reddit
If you're going above 20mph you will want a MIPS rated helmet at the least. Its a Multi-impact Directional System. Giro makes an affordable option. MIPS have an empty space beneath the foam and are designed to absorb impacts from any angle to break and protect your skull.
BeatrixPlz@reddit
I learned something from the below commenter which is because of your comment so thank you!
Good to know. I broke 25mph for the first time today. Was very freeing but also quite the thrill. It’s not frequent I do this but I will look at a better helmet as soon as I can (money is tight enough I got the bike bc I can’t afford the costs of a vehicle and associated finances of one) and until then I will try to ride below 20mph. Thanks so much!
OneDeep87@reddit
Is your helmet a bicycle helmet? If it’s sold at Target, it should be somewhat decent. Keep in mind regular bicycle speeds and e-bike speeds are not the same thing. So that helmet might be good for low speeds but if you’re flying down a hill at 25. It might not be that good. So yeah slow down until you can get one a little better.
sparhawk817@reddit
Mips isn't a rating system, it's a licensed design of slip plane technology.
What you actually want is a helmet that meets the Dutch Ebike standard NTA 8776, or a DOT, Snell or ECE motorcycle helmet, and DOT is... Bare minimum, the standards it meets are really not that much better than the CPSC standard that bicycle helmets meet in the US.
MIPS is an Trademark Infringement Lawsuit company disguised as a helmet company. They don't make any helmets. They license their trademark and associated technology.
They will not license their trademark to be used on a helmet that does not improve results in their testing when adding the mips to that helmet design, does not improve by a certain threshold, meaning if a helmet already does a good job protecting your head, or had a well designed round and slippery shape that doesn't grab on impact, they will not license their trademark to that product.
As a result, by and large the helmets that have MIPS involved end up being WORSE in other aspects of design, in order to get that sweet sweet sale making trademark on the box.
MIPS is an expensive sticker, but there is no conclusive evidence that it actually reduces risk of brain injuries in event of a crash.
Get a helmet that meets a safety standard, not a helmet that has a trademark.
BeatrixPlz@reddit
Thank you so much this is wonderful help!
McSavagery@reddit
Fair point. And learned something new.
redditorialy_retard@reddit
Normal helmets already make you look cool/sexy enough

ZERO_PORTRAIT@reddit (OP)

They stare for another reason
SadisticPawz@reddit
I was honestly giving you the benefit of the doubt and didn't understand others getting up in arms about this. Assumed you only wore that stuff for the camera but this comment says otherwise. I really do hope you're staying safe with a good helmet but you do you. I'd maybe recommend modding a bike helmet with some kind of lightweight materials. That way, it could also be much more "yours".
FreedomX01@reddit
sakko303@reddit
Do you worry about safety? I know lot of ppl rock no helmet at all and I worry about them but don’t judge. That being said that helmet is super fun and I am totally shopping for sci fi helmets now haha.. thank you for posting fun pics!

Olibirus@reddit

_Cerebral_Musings@reddit
Nololgoaway@reddit
Hell yeah, if that's a motorcycle helmet you might want to see if it's legal to use on a bicycle, where I live (different country entirely) you can get fined for wearing a motorcycle helmet on a bicycle
Looks sick as fuck either way though, good on ya :)
xb4r7x@reddit
Why the hell would you get fined for that?
Nololgoaway@reddit
Where I live in NSW in Australia motorcycle and bicycle helmets have different specification requirements and you can get fined for not wearing a helmet up to spec, which motorcycle helmets aren't because they have different requirements.
xb4r7x@reddit
But wouldn't a motorcycle helmet presumably be up to an even higher spec and therefore safer?
Nololgoaway@reddit
They're good for different things, motorcycle helmets are heavier and have less visibility/flexibility because they need less visibility/flexibility because of the mirrors
Fishfisherton@reddit
OP that helmet is for costumes. If you take a fall with it, you're going to be in a world of hurt.
Snoo-94564@reddit
A fall with that helmet would KMFDM’d someone’s brain. You need a real bicycle helmet so you can save that Front 242
Lajak_Anni@reddit
But what if you took a legit helmet and built off it? 3d printing like...?
Capn_Flags@reddit
You wouldn’t want to compromise the design of the helmet. It needs to make contact the way it’s designed or it could not work properly. Maybe there are some cool soft helmet covers like they make for skiing and snowboarding? 🤷
GildaSexy950@reddit
A soft cover sounds like a much safer way to add some style without risking the protection.
