Let me guess, UAE ran out of free money to pay their death squads?
It’s crazy how Sudan war and their level of atrocities fly below the radar of public outrage. Is it because Europe and US don’t care about Africans or because journalists don’t want to lose that sweet sweet gulf money?
MelodiusRA@reddit
They don’t mention it in China or Russia either, bud
CluelessExxpat@reddit
Well, they don't claim they are the pinnacle of democracy and human rights though, do they?
MelodiusRA@reddit
China claims to be the pinnacle of human administration
TimothyMimeslayer@reddit
Neither is Sudan
CluelessExxpat@reddit
Therefore they don't make 7 different speeches by 4 different government bodies in the course of a month and judge everyone else on human rights and democracy.

I don't get it, do you want us to be the world police or not?
CluelessExxpat@reddit
By us do you mean US or us, Europe?
zootbot@reddit
So? lol

The issue might be this war is bad guys killing bad guys with a lot of civilians caught in the middle.
type_E@reddit
wait isn't that take something this sub would take offense to
MongolPerson@reddit
Wait till you find out all other wars ever were also just bad guys killing bad guys. 😔
ThevaramAcolytus@reddit
As opposed to every other war which is apparently a Marvel cape alliance versus Dr. Doom or Rohan vs. the orc legions or something.
"Bad guys killing bad guys" - In other words, there's no obvious geopolitical angle to push for parties with the largest voice and controlling stake in global media outlets.

I think it's because it's too remote, and no western countries are directly involved.
BlackAfroUchiha@reddit
Lol no.
Britain and Germany have tried to host peace conferences and get this, the Sudanese government was not even invited to these peace conferences while RSF affiliates were.
RisingDeadMan0@reddit
yeah, UK/France just sell it to UAE who send it to Sudan... oh and Israel too of course
kwonza@reddit
I mean it’s not that far certainly closer that Rwanda

Media Direction of Public Consciousness. The function of modern media is to direct public consciousness to conflicts they want people to value, so that societal resources are be mobilized to serve these conflicts. In this case Ukraine and Israel dominate Western consciousness. Societies cannot spread the focus evenly across every single ongoing conflict occuring across the world, despite some being more severe than Ukraine and Israel-Palestine. Human-rights abuses have no influence here. Media Editors actively choose which conflicts matter.
Criticism of Allied Nations. It is almost universally agreed that Saudi Arabia and UAE are not criticised by US, EU, Russia, or China. Evidenced by Saudis War in Yemen & the Blockade of Qatar, and Emiratis foreign policy across the Arabian Peninsula & Africa, as well as their involvement in money laundering and global transnational crime. Added to this both nations are hubs for human trafficking/slavery.
Censorship within African nations means journalists reporting within these countries are targeted and killed. The recent Tigray War in Eithiopia, similar in human rights abuses to Sudan, is evidence of these practices. This makes proliferating information difficult.
sofixa11@reddit
There are no journalists in Sudan, so there is generally not a ton of information.
Every time events there are discussed, there is public outrage and outrage at the lack of information.
