Soo.....it's basically an ocean's worth of water, to go from Colorado to Florida.

No joke, the world constantly jokes about us using anything and everything to measure distance with, except the metric system. But frick you, if it helps me visualize the distance than it works.
I wonder if there's ocean equivalent to Atlanta, Georgia.
WolvTheHero@reddit
Anyone in here that drive trucks in New Zealand?
Remote-Climate-135@reddit
This is ~18,480 football fields
Older_cyclist@reddit
I did not know that. Thanks for the perspective.
Mystery_Chaser@reddit
We don't know perspective. The maps have been altered and changed Many times for hundreds of years.
Mystery_Chaser@reddit
Do people realize how the maps have been manipulated since 1893?

How many bananas is this?
snarksneeze@reddit
At this point shouldn't we be using elephants?
McConha0@reddit
Don’t you guys use elephant measurements exclusively for weight? Or are you trying to be inclusive with the elephants?
snarksneeze@reddit
Oh, no. We've got "elephants tall", "elephants long (aka 18 elephants trunk to tail)", "elephants wide", we use the whole elephant around these parts.
Pass_The_Salt_@reddit
Should be using the true measurement, bald eagle wingspans 🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅

Ocean ≠ Sea
Worried_Sweet_7085@reddit
Using your formula I calculated that the Tasman Sea is not an ocean
BRICH999@reddit
was hoping someone here picked up on that
KillerGopher@reddit
TIL the Tasmanian Sea is actually an Ocean unto itself.

This makes that story about the guy who tried to kayak from Australia to Milford sound even more horrifying.
seeder33@reddit
This is significantly closer than I thought. Never knew it was driving distance.
jrshall@reddit
How many bananas is that?
Ksan_of_Tongass@reddit
This is nearly the size of Alaska. This is why we chuckle when people ask, "whats it like in Alaska?"
karmeezys@reddit
I actually thought it was further
bossdark101@reddit
How many hours of driving is this?
Feeez_Shato@reddit
All I know is that Sydney to NZ is a tough route!
apathy420@reddit
I learned 2 things from this image: 1. New Zealand is a lot further from Australia than I realized. And 2. Australia is a lot closer to Indonesia than I realized
PacificCastaway@reddit
Ok, but what's the flight time? It looks like 2-3 hours.
paxwax2018@reddit
3 - 3.5 half hours Auckland Sydney.

It's really amusing to me because that section used to be a massive inland sea too
xoutlawtrucker@reddit
You were wondering about Atlanta? If Hell had some form of object to measure besides being frozen over I would start there.
United_News3779@reddit
I knew it was a long distance because the Aussies I know call it "the ditch". Under Australian naming conventions and slang usage, that means it's huge lol
Norsedragoon@reddit
Keeps the noise complaints down when the Aussies can't hear the Kiwi sheep crying for help.
flatdecktrucker92@reddit
Actually that's much closer to Australia than I thought it was
thprk@reddit
Australia and New Zealand are so far away that Canberra and Wellington are the two capital cities farthest apart in the world. They are 2330km apart and no other capital city is closer to either.
W1D0WM4K3R@reddit
Australia is almost the size of the United States is a bigger deal for me, honestly
HeywoodJaBlowMe123@reddit
And how many oceans would it take to get to the center of a lollipop?
Possumjones@reddit
That’s a full days drive!
Itchy-Apartment-Flea@reddit
From Australia to New Zealand is not an entire ocean. Both are in the Pacific along with a lot of other stuff. The Pacific is just huge. Probably incomprehensible for most.
codekb@reddit
It’s called an exaggeration lol
i_was_axiom@reddit
The ocean equivalent of Atlanta is The Suez Canal.
Mist_Wraith@reddit
Sea, not ocean. Oceans are significantly larger and deeper. It is still a hell of a distance, but not an ocean's worth.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Well, I mean, if you learned metric you'd be able visualize in metric just like miles.
LethalRex75@reddit
They’re using the distance between two states, not miles in this example.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Then why are we saying Florida when that obviously stops at Georgia.
LethalRex75@reddit
See OP’s comment above
isuxirl@reddit
Having driven from Chicago to Las Vegas a bunch of times this is very intuitive.
Nero-Danteson@reddit
NZ is roughly where GA is so there you go
Frybread002@reddit (OP)
Yeah, but I rather go to the Florida part of New Zealand.

I mean you did ask if they're was an ocean equivalent. :P anyway 'Mere so I can make you into a taco
