I see another regime change incoming.
Gaddafi in Libya, Saddam Hussain in Iraq both started selling oil in other currencies just before they were overthrown.
The petrodollar is the foundation of American economic hegemony and threatening that is a very stupid move by a state that has no military power.

Trump is apparently considering a currency swap arrangement with them already. An attack on UAE would just further raise oil prices and thus tank the global economy more, as well as drive all the US' Gulf allies away from it even more than this war already has.

Sometimes, the useful idiot
Sometimes, just the idiot
It's often hard to tell which and for whom
fre-ddo@reddit
That's part of the reason why the US has bases there, got to keep the gun on them to make sure they don't go astray.
ThatHeckinFox@reddit
I was about to say the UAE is a US ally, but Trump is an insane dementia patient, so fuck knows at this point.
Future-Excuse6167@reddit
Apologies for the insult, btw. Thought you were referring to Iran not UAE.
There's no good options. Looks like GCC countries are basically client state of a state that honestly does not give a single fuck about them. The play here, I think, is to threaten the US to sue for peace. These regimes will not survive retaliatory strikes against their power grid and desalinization plants.
Summer is coming.
Future-Excuse6167@reddit
Meanwhile, VP Vance was waiting to see if representatives from the militarily powerless country would deign to meet with him.
For someone who supposedly reads the news, you seem profoundly ignorant.
bradicality@reddit
I believe they were saying regime change in UAE

China must absolutely love Trump. All they have to do is sit back and let him erode the last hundred or so years of US hegemony while everyone turns to them to fill in the void left by the US. The American century of humiliation is well underway.
迎接中国世纪吧!
ThatHeckinFox@reddit
At this point, It'll be more like a decade :D
They'll likely become little more than a local power in North America by 2030.
moonorplanet@reddit
And the best part, the humiliation is self inflicted.
ThatHeckinFox@reddit
Yeah, it's like, the US is chewing on the barrel of a shotgun like a goat on a green painted fence, while their pinkie toes fiddle the trigger
BendicantMias@reddit (OP)
They do love Trump yes, they even have a nickname for him lol - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/chuan-jianguo-why-chinese-nationalists-are-cheering-for-donald-trump/articleshow/116293695.cms

Good. Putting a bunch of sociopathic kleptocrats with the worlds best adverstising tech in charge has done fuck all for anyone.
Syrairc@reddit
I think all of America's rivals love Trump. He's done nothing but sabotage America and its allies.
Britstuckinamerica@reddit
I laughed at the masterful reverse psychology gambit by Putin in Feb 2024 saying he preferred Biden over Trump in the upcoming election. Just caused a bit more chaos in the US for his personal enjoyment and helped the Trump campaign as midwits thought "let's choose the one Putin is afraid of!" lol
RisingDeadMan0@reddit
backfired hard then sice MI6/CIA worked to get Putin elected...
one giant scam
FerdinandTheGiant@reddit
Genuinely had a buddy of mine raise that point to suggest Russia was scared of a Trump presidency.

Of course China loves JDPON Don

Everyone acts like we are losing because of Trump. When we were already losing and trump is just taking us down in a particularly crass way.
Taking down the dollar is part of the CBDC move. If you have been paying attention you have watched a united move for the last 12 years working on devaluing the fiat dollar and increasing the debt. Because stable coins can be funded with treasury bonds, basically doubling our money supply. And the US population will gladly lap up the next payoff and start using it, while the bulk of it goes to one bunch of kleptocrats or another.

We were losing since Carter declared the Persian Gulf an American lake. Brzezinski thought we could shift focus the moment the fallout over the Iranian Revolution ended and Carter’s disastrous choice to let the Shah into the U.S. (with certain segments of Iranian society being convinced this was part of an effort to forcefully reinstall him, as in 1953, specifically the socialist element), with bygones being bygones, but discovered that U.S. Middle Eastern foreign policy within just a few years was completely hijacked in the region and now subservient to Israel's interests.
All the more evidence of what a POS Carter was, and we are still paying the price of his stupid, knee-jerk, and inept, face-saving reaction to the Iranian Revolution (which Carter ignored any intelligence regarding the Shah’s deep unpopularity, and had Israel’s hand over his hesitancy regarding the Iraqi Kurds (Since Saddam was the 'big evil' and Palestinian donor then) and nationalist ambitions) and the hostage crisis.
Insignificant_Letter@reddit
Carter also fell for Khomeini’s overtures.

Which is irrelevant to Carter's actions in response to the hostage situation which he caused, which set US policy to the modern day.
There was a chance for an off ramp post 9/11 when Iran offered Dubya assistance in exchange for normalizing relations and Dubya slammed the door in their faces since the end goal of Iraq (and later Syria under Obama) was always to eventually give Israel a free air route to attack Iran.
Moarbrains@reddit
Carter didn't cause the hostages. that was a bush whack. helped get his actor elected

Kill the petrodollar. Kill it.
Take the US monetary system and hold it over a barrel.
The closer we get to kicking out the monetary leg of US hegemony, the safer the world is. And the closer every American is to hell.

Americas Suez Crisis moment.
If anyone told me 10 years, no 3years ago, that the "winning at any aspect of the game" superpower would go down so rapidly, i would not have believed it. And the crazy thing is, that many Americans seem blissfully unaware of how fast they are losing under Trump. This guy sets a new low every other day. And most of those lows will be there to stay, as the american government system is so bad at reforming itself and how powerful the lobbists already are. The american voter literally voted themselfs into meaning less. And this is effecting the economy. Just look at all the bullshit pyramids shemes happening under Trump. The ~~gambling~~ prediction markets, the cycled leanding, pushing and selling at the NASDAQ. The utter sellout under fracking laws, that only benefit a few and only secure resources for a few years instead of decades. The handicap of renewables. The ousting of immigrants while nepotism is everywhere. This is only going down. I wouldnt bet 2 cents on the democrats stopping any of those trends, even with 100% of the votes.

bradicality@reddit
Maybe they can fix it with AI. Just look at that giant, round, tumescent blob of AI money, looks almost like a balloon... look at it go!
bippos@reddit
Sounds like a good idea for regime change? Because by any metrics the uae is an easy target for American regime change either as a place coup or just quick invasion and out. At least Iran has its terrain and rockets and Iraq well being a normal sized nation but I doubt the uae elite will go for any type of prolonged campaign
