Everyone is so far bringing some pretty good points, but I also want to point out that a gigantic portion of this base that is online are also old people who are pretty isolated and entrenched when it comes to their views.

We always wonder why conservative influencers and people like that have the followings they do (look at Dave Rubin, a guy who is so outright stupid that his own subreddit is devoted to mocking him, and yet he has a huge following on socials), and while I’m sure a bunch of it are bots a good portion is old whiteys just love content that tells them they are correct and they are smart and their kids who went off to college and don’t speak to them anymore are wrong.

Like before the Internet, how did these boomers get their conservaslop? Fox News. Have you seen the quality of that programming? Because this whole post is basically me describing my own parents so naturally I have spent the first 17 years of my life being inundated with Fox News and Rush Limbaugh and let me tell you that content is just as bottom of the barrel as Maga slop and Indian guy generated by AI. If you ever watch episodes of Tucker Carlson or Bill O’Reilly or Jesse Watters, you’d find that it is literally just them repeating, talking points and telling their audience what they want to hear. There’s no actual journalism, no actual thought. Some of it is impressively lazy, it’s just fucking saying shit with nothing to back it up (which to be fair is most conservative rhetoric).

And before the both sides brigades come out let me just say that CNN and MSNBC are far from paragons of journalistic integrity. Either way, there is just a very clear delineation between what you get from Fox News and what you get from those places because Fox was explicitly created as a propaganda outlet for the GOP. Like, that was why Roger Ailes started it.

MAGA is reactionary and delusional but the two aren't necessarily the same thing.

Them being reactionary just means they oppose pretty much everything that would be labeled as "social progress", equal rights for minorities, women, immigrants, regulations on business, etc. Their movement is a reaction to this change and they want to undo it and go back to the older order where they imagine things were better.

On top of this they're entirely delusional and will ignore anything that contradicts Trump. But you could have reactionaries that are less delusional (they'd still need to be somewhat delusional to think that returning to the old order would help them in any way), and you can have delusional cults of personality that are not reactionary.

There’s a difference between what I’m saying and the example you’re giving though - he was unable to pander to the libs (who by the way, are a very easy demographic to pander to) but was able to pander to maga. The libs being mad was a side effect of it being successful with maga, funny enough (otherwise it wouldn’t have entered their feeds).

maga fell for the maga ai girl it because maga is stupid. Libs fell for the maga AI girl also because maga is stupid. He made an account indistinguishable from a stupid maga account. And because maga was falling for it, it entered the algorithm of libs who engage with maga people.

But he couldn’t replicate that with the inverse.

And look, it’s not hard to pander to the libs. The Trump reply guys are perfect examples. I’m a leftist, I hate libs. But even I recognize it takes a special kind of effortless stupidity to pander to maga.

Well for one libs aren’t my side. For another my only argument was that according to the actual story, he tried to play both sides and the one that worked was clearly MAGA. I have no doubts about lib AI influencers, but I’d like a bit more context to see if that is actually a meaningful equivalent to what this guy did.

Interacting with the account is different because the case I was making was that based on his own account he could not replicate the same success he had with maga with libs. That is all.
