Republic of Serbia marks April 22 as the National Remembrance Day for victims of genocide in World War II.

Do you think other Nations should adopt similiar Resolutions to remember the genocide of Serbs during WW2 in the Region ?
oops_all_memes@reddit
Why would other Balkan nations adopt remembrance days to remember the genocide of Serbs during ww2? Do you realistically think anyone cares enough to observe a remembrance day for a minority group?
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
Because they suffered the biggest in numbers by far during WW2 ? Wich other ethnic group was victim to racial laws and attempted extermination on this scale ?
it’s important for reconciliation to show understanding. The victims we talk about had no justice at all, even today nobody takes accountability for their attempted extermination. Kinda cruel isn’t it ?
And more importantly to counter the revisionism which is rampantly increasing. Were literally witnessing a revival of NDH insignia and rhetoric.
jinawee@reddit
Ah, yes. More Serbs murdered than Jews, Gypsies, Russians and Chinese combined. We just found the replacement for Jovanka Jolić.
weoponized_donkey@reddit
Well you should look at Serbia first, if Serbia can't commemorate the Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia that was committed by Serbs on bosnians then why should the Bosnia, Croatia, commemorate the genocide that happened to the Serbs in the second world war? And other countries in the Balkans don't commemorate it beacuase they have no connection to it.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
i agree with you Serbia should commemorate it but theres a fundemantel difference in the perception of justice on both events.
There was no justice for serbian victims, not 1% unlike for Srebrenica were the International Court issued almost the same years as the German courts post ww2 for Germans and their Nazi crimes. (if you keep the scale in mind its ridicilious but who cares about war criminals, they should rot)
oops_all_memes@reddit
I have 5 guesses, would you like to guess my guesses?
That's a good point. Still I'm not convinced. Remembrance for victims of the nazis and collaborators during ww2 sounds more fitting than a specific group. Adjusting education programs to discuss this topic sounds even better (if it's not discussed there)
CasperGwamm@reddit
Why only WW2? And will you be including the Serbs genocided by other Serbs?
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
That’s a wild one, because WW2 victims had 0 justice because the new leader a Croat/Slovene dictator shrugged everything under the rug.
So you thinks there was a official policy by Serbs to exterminate other Serbs because of their ethnicity ? Interesting
CasperGwamm@reddit
What's interesting is how you didn't answer any of my questions, threw in a lie, followed it up with a straw man, and concluded with a snarky comment.
Classic textbook, mr. "Austria". 😂
tompa_zg@reddit
LMAO, that guy is as Austrian as I am Martian. 😂
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
ofc i am Austrian, born and raised here. I participate in their culture since young ages.
What makes you insecure about it ? I can be Serbian and Austrian since ethnicity and nationality are different concepts.
You guys should really invest more into education
tompa_zg@reddit
Every word you type is a lie. 😂
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
such a insecure little boy
tompa_zg@reddit
Says the guy larping as someone else. Average /srpskapovest poster.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
i mean i guess for some people the concept of nationality and ethnicity can be confusing but they dont bite each other at all.
but let ur frustration out its fine and i never posted there lmaooo
CasperGwamm@reddit
Serbian shills larping as Austrians is my favorite reddit thing ever.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
Ofc I answered them lmaoo
CasperGwamm@reddit
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
i mean you claimed that Serbs genocided Serbs, obviously not knowing the very definition of this terminology.
so you should keep the Wig, its fits you very well.
CasperGwamm@reddit
Classic attempts at deflection and obfuscation by throwing false attacks. So very predictable. Do update your playbook.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
i was literally quoting ur own sentence.
CasperGwamm@reddit
Words losing all meaning reply. Check.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
you should use this time for education/research lil buddy
first you could look up in a dictonary the very defintion of Genocide and understand why you applied it wrongly.
CasperGwamm@reddit
Attempts at talking down. Check.
driftstyle28@reddit
Flair checks out. No shame at all.
CasperGwamm@reddit
What do you mean by that?
driftstyle28@reddit
"Serbs genocided by other Serbs" on the day that marks the liberation of Jasenovac concentration camp, ran by Croats who genocided Serbs. No shame at all.
CasperGwamm@reddit
The day is called "Remembrance Day for victims of genocide in World War II", and obviously includes victims of genocide in WW2. However, your attempts at presenting like I am attacking this are a fallacy. Because you have zero shame.
What my questions were asking OP are based on their question in op. Try reading.
FilipAdzic97@reddit
Because the 22nd of April is the date the Jasenovac concentration camp was liberated in 1945.
CasperGwamm@reddit
That wasn't the question.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
As long as Serbs deny and in some cases even celebrate the genocides they committed, I doubt that other countries in the region will introduce a day of remembrance for the Serbian victims of genocide.
driftstyle28@reddit
The genocides? Serbs commited multiple genocides?? LMFAO. You have no shame at all, especially with that flair.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Yes, throughout their history, Serbs have committed several genocides, for example, in 1912 and 1913, when Albanians and Muslims in Southern Serbia, Macedonia, and Kosovo were murdered, raped, or forcibly converted on a massive scale in order to assimilate them. During World War 2 Chetnik units also committed mass war crimes in the Balkans, especially in Bosnia, and ethnically cleansed entire Croatian and Muslim villages. The Nedić government worked closely with the SS and the Wehrmacht. Serbia, for instance, was one of the first territories in Europe to be declared 'Judenfrei' (free of Jews). In Sajmište and Banjica, thousands of Jews were murdered by Serbs. And of course, in the 90s, there was the Srebrenica genocide as well as other heinous crimes committed by Serbs from Croatia to Kosovo. Every country has skeletons in its closet, especially Germany I do not deny that but Germany has at least apologized for its genocides and hopefully learned from them. Unfortunately, I do not see that being the case with the Serbs.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
as German you should know the crimes ur nation enabled and be extra careful what you write.
the primary responsibility lay with Nazi Germany, which controlled the camps and directed the killings.
Do you know who declared Serbia Judenfrei ? Judenfrei doesnt sound very Serbian to me and the killing was done by Germans in the Camps unlike in the neighbouring country who initiated the Holocaust before the germans.
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
Laber keine Scheisse.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
i hope the people translate this reponse so they see what why we need such resolutions.
The assets such as the possessions of the Serbian Orthodox Church and of wealthy Orthodox individuals were often times transferred to the Roman Catholic Church. Furthermore all Jews were expropriated - one of the first steps towards the planned extermination. In addition, they had to wear a Star of David, Serbs a blue armband with a “P” for “Pravoslavac” (Orthodox person). Orthodox persons, as well as Jews, were denied access to many public places, such as sidewalks, offices, shops, restaurants, public transport and life in many parts of Zagreb (see Deschner 2012)
auch hatte Kroatien die Kontrolle und Hochheit über ihr Gebiet:

I would say the nature of the Ustaša regime. The Ustašas initiated the persecution of Jews quite independently from any real pressure from Germany. Racial laws were adopted within a fortnight of the establishment of the state on 10 April 1941, which was followed by the nationalization of property and establishment of a camp system a short time thereafter.
The Ustašas themselves murdered the vast majority of the Jews in the Independent State of Croatia and initiated the Holocaust at a very early stage. And the Jasenovac camp was key in this process, established and run by the Ustašas themselves with little German meddling. I think this is important, as it is a rather unique case among those countries that were recognized by Nazi Germany as independent and sovereign states.
wiederlicher Revisionismus was du als kroat.
driftstyle28@reddit
No agenda pushing, huh? Can we stick to facts from now on? LMAO
CamelAmbitious7425@reddit
I have given you the facts, what you do with them is not my business.
alkorisno@reddit
Everyone should remember all the victums of nazis.
Hyllius1@reddit
It's pretty hypocritical. The state of Serbia does not acknowledge what happened in Srebrenica nor Kosovo. If you're gonna start looking back 100 years and seek justice for a genocide, maybe start with what happened 25- 30 years ago first and acknowledge the genocides committed by Serbia.
alkorisno@reddit
Serbia denies genocide 30 years ago, Germany denids genocide happening right now in Gaza. They even arrest you if you protest against it.
RebootAndPray@reddit
I’m not sure I’m really following the logic here.
To me, it makes sense that this kind of remembrance day is observed in Serbia, and also in countries where genocide actually happened, like Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
But expecting countries with no real connection to it - like ror example Greece or Bulgaria - to have an official, nationwide remembrance day for a genocide of Serbs in Croatia feels like a stretch. That’s just not how these things are usually handled. Countries mostly focus on their own history or events tied to them directly.
That doesn’t mean others should ignore it, of course. Send official messages, maybe have a commemoration at the embassy - that all makes sense. But making it a full country-wide remembrenace day is a different thing entirely.
alkorisno@reddit
There was a genocide in Serbia in WW2. Jews, gypsies, all where killed in concentration camps by collaborator Nedic regime. Many serbs ware killed as well, as well as whole schools shot by german soldiers.
Internet_P3rsona@reddit
they should acknowledge the genocides they committed first
driftstyle28@reddit
Genocides? Only a Croat is shameless enough to write a comment like this one.
Internet_P3rsona@reddit
bosniak..
Ujemegaz@reddit
No. When you cry, you have a runny nose.
driftstyle28@reddit
Hmm... I wonder why.
Ujemegaz@reddit
So what. Germans had a fetish for highlanders.
driftstyle28@reddit
Enjoy licking the boots of foreign occupying forces, like you always did.
Ujemegaz@reddit
The only occupying force was the Yugoslav kingdom. Were they licking your boots 🤔
driftstyle28@reddit
Byzantines, Ottomans, Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, Austria-Hungary... Should I continue? How many boots can an Albanian tongue service?
Ujemegaz@reddit
You conveniently missed the Slavic hordes. The only non natives in the Balkans.
driftstyle28@reddit
Oh cry me a river "autochtonous" imports, even Bismarck denied the existance of your nation while it was being formed during the Congress of Berlin in 1878. Literally any book pre-1912 describes Albanians as scattered highland tribes with no common culture or language. Please stop with this bullshit, we have been here for over 15 centuries.
Ujemegaz@reddit
Imagine being Slavic and lecturing about "common" culture, language and national identities, and even bringing up Bismark who was a German, and we are aware how they percieved Slavs. And then you mentioned Byzantines, Romans and what not. Why do you even open such topics. Your feelings will be hurt 🤣
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
By the end of August 1944, the Germans had decided that the division was only of use for basic guarding duties.^([60]) Some members were charged with guarding chromium mines near Kosovo before the area was overrun by the Partisans. In the ensuing clashes, one of the division's regiments lost more than 1,000 men and many Albanians deserted.^([40]) Some of the desertions occurred after a Partisan offensive northeast of Gusinje.^([23]) Army Group E reported that the division's performance showed that it had "absolutely no military value.
Ujemegaz@reddit
Am i even denying. Yet, you skip the fact that Hoxha's partizans chastised Nazis all the way to Visegrad, because Tito did not want to risk going through Kosovo. Exploited the fact that local Albanians would hesitate taking arms against fellow Albanians, regardless of political viewpoints.
Specialist_Elk140@reddit
I don't see why not, BiH can have theirs for Srebrenica and Serbs can have theirs for Jasenovac.
Specialist_Elk140@reddit
Same way as you can have a Holocaust Remembrance Day as well as one for Palestinians.
LenaLena93@reddit
This post is only going to invite the worst of the nationalist.
I don’t know if that was your point.
Imaginary_String_814@reddit (OP)
i am curious about the replies, so far as expected.
