Damn, what did they have to fix, a static wick?
Forgotthebloodypassw@reddit
The pilot is also personally having to pay 10% of that.

Probably something like the wing and stabilizer tip fairings. For context a 737 MAX lower winglet is ~$800,000 we know this because ramp vehicles snag them all the time lol

"South Korea's air force suspended the wingman pilot, who has since left the military to work for a commercial airline."
Bigking00@reddit
That is one way to end your career.
Kanyiko@reddit (OP)
He nearly ended his and another pilot's permanently.
Instead, he's now flying commercial.
Not at all worrying.
yetiflask@reddit
We all know how good SK pilots are after that embarrasing Asiana crash a decade ago. Like, they didn't even know how to fly a plane. And it turned out, it was an industry-wide issue in Korea.
Kreeos@reddit
Nah, it's fine. Commercial jets have autopilot. He can take all the pictures he wants now.
DullMind2023@reddit
Question for those in the know: do fighter planes have autopilots? I assume they do, but want to get clarification.
Haunting_Bug6472@reddit
Yes. I’m speaking in broad generalities but generally they are not as sophisticated and not designed to fly the airplane as much as lift some of the burden of controlling the plane so the pilot can focus his attention elsewhere tactically. They usually have some combo of Altitude hold, altitude+heading hold, flight path hold. They are generally not anywhere near as sophisticated as a 737 where you can program it to basically do the entire flight do you after you takeoff (to include landing)
DullMind2023@reddit
Interesting, thank you.
fireandlifeincarnate@reddit
They do, but unlike commercial jets they often fly in formation, which you can't really use autopilot for
YourLizardOverlord@reddit
Umm...
Kreeos@reddit
That's why you're not supposed to turn off the autopilot, silly.
Lovable-loggie@reddit
SK is not America. You do something to tarnish your reputation, that shit follows you over there

"Don't text while piloting a plane. Textin' and flyin' is dangerous!"
I mean, I know that's not what happened HERE, but I couldn't help myself.
Haunting_Bug6472@reddit
Obviously a joke. But it’s insane how much other stuff a fighter pilot is doing that is not flying. It’s more like you are driving on a busy street while talking in the phone, texting, playing multiple video games with a different controller in each hand, and writing on your knee board, and typing into a computer while trying to solve geometry problems, AND you are also flying the airplane in relation to another airplane in your formation.
Puravida1904@reddit
Every pilot has taken photos while flying (at least in GA) but there’s a time and place. While in formation isn’t one of them lol

(Cough) Bullshit!
SubjectConfection606@reddit
Imagine throwing away your entire military aviation career and doing $600k in damage to an f-15 just to get a sick pic for the gram tbh. absolutely unhinged behavior for a professional fighter pilot.
Kanyiko@reddit (OP)
The thing that most worries me is that he's now flying commercial.
DaimonHans@reddit
worth it

Well he better frame those pictures all over his house with that price tag
