Quintessential 90's song? Primitive Radio Gods came out at a perfect time for me, I was riding around LA with my older sister and this played on the radio often. This captures a big vibe for me.

This one is so underrated, I still listen to it regularly. One of the best one-hit wonders of all time.

I’ve been downhearted baby, every since the day

*Ever since the day we met
Juztaan@reddit
No. He says "every", as standard in the particular dialect of AAVE BB King was singing in.
Secure_Bed_9110@reddit
LOL, what?
Quite a reach there. I guess everybody else's ears are wrong.
That being said, the "" was about the line being, "ever since the day we met," not "every since the day."

I had absolutely no idea this was the lyric. Thought it was “I’ve been up and down Harlem, baby”

As a cock 18 year old who thought he knew everything, I was flabbergasted that most people didn't know that was a BB King sample. My friend thought it was Fred Flinstone, lol

I remember listening to NPR years ago and they BB King song came on and I just stood in the hallway shaking my head for never realizing where that sample came from.
Juztaan@reddit
😂 Fred Flintstone. I’ve been downhearted, Barney

Ever since the day you left. Ever since the day you left.

Too bad he snubbed the music industry. He could have done some more amazing music
HeywoodJaBlessMe@reddit
Oh yeah. This one is on my "Hyper 90s" playlist reserved for only the most 90s vibey tunes.

Is Circles by Soul Coughing on your list?

This lives in my brain near Brimful of Asha on the 45 and Novocaine for the Soul

Good song, outstanding video, one of the best videos of the decade for me.
jessek@reddit
Good song but that album was such an example of CDs being a rip off since nothing on it sounded like that song
checkoutmuhhat@reddit (OP)
Yeah I know I bought the cd back then and there was one other song on there that was okay.
_shaftpunk@reddit
Too bad the rest of the album was weak.

Gin Blossoms Hey Jealousy did it for me

Under rated low budget music video too.
"Hey just stand behind this fish tank guys!"

Even though it came out in 1989...I would say "Found Out About You". That song seemed to be EVERYWHERE in the early-mid 90s.

Used to play this on test day in my classroom at the start of class.

A friend and I had to do a creative project for a class in high school. We made a music video of this song. We drove around to various phone booths and filmed with a camcorder. Then I remember somehow hooking up 2 VCRs and a tv so we could put the music over our footage. To this day I don't know how we did it, but it was fun and the video got an A from our peers.

Please tell me you still have it

I don't

It’s weird because the early 90s and late 90s feel so different to me. I’d say early 90s = Today by Smashing Pumpkins or a grunge song like Smells Like Teen Spirit
Late 90s - probably something like Backstreet’s Back so some other pop song
bosco9@reddit
There's that but also early 90s also had gangsta rap in its prime and late 90s also had numetal. I also associate mid 90s with a lot of European dance music

That song always reminds me of the Cable Guy.

Everybody remembers the big hit off this album, but the best song on the album that didn't receive a drop of radio play is Motherfucker.

Morrissey- Tomorrow

Was the theme to one of the best summers of my life. I never hear it on the local radio that plays "classic 90's rock". Whenever I do hear it, it brings me right back!

Tom’s Diner! Listening to it, I felt cool.
fyrefly_faerie@reddit
It’s from 1987 but it’s definitely a quintessential late 80s song

Beck, "Where It's At." I used to play the opening riff on the marimba before band class every day.

I hope you still have your sister, and will for many years. When I lost mine, the number one memory that would even show up in my dreams was when we'd aimlessly ride around town after school, listening to music.
The best memory.

I lost my family in January. Ex owned the house and had a move out order served on me. We have a 5 year old I spent all day every day with since his birth 2 weeks after I turned 40.. needless to say I’ve been downhearted lately and this song that I’ve always loved makes me cry constantly lately but it’s a beautiful song.
