This is my first time building a PC, and I'm looking to play everything at 4K with maximum FPS. Any recommendations/suggestions?

As the title says. This is what I have now: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/user/brambo135/saved/rttdrH
Money is not an issue, but it is also not needed to pick the most expensive parts if those are not necessary. (based in the Netherlands)
maephisto666@reddit
This is my build, very similar to yours. If money is not a problem, then you should go for 5090.

1200W ATX3.1 PSU, 5090, at least 4 TB (2x2tb)
Stolen_Sky@reddit
If money is no issue, and you want maximum performance, the RTX 5090 is significantly better than the 5080.
Bear in the mind, the 5080 is incredible, and if you use MFG you can play in 4k no problem. But this 5090 is the true king of gaming right now.
DrKaassouffle@reddit (OP)
Yeah I was thinking about the 5090, but the price difference with the 5080 is not worth it for me.
FreedomNext@reddit
Money IS an issue then lol. Otherwise you could have went for RTX6000.
NewestAccount2023@reddit
5090 is 50% faster than a 5080, the performance difference is insane. You ask for "maximum fps and "money is no issue" then cut off 50% performance fir no reason at all.
That's performance is 100% necessary at 4k
bp1976@reddit
LOL exactly. Maximum FPS is a 5090. I had a 4090 and when I tried playing Indiana Jones with path tracing I realized I needed to upgrade.
If you want the best of the best, you gotta pay. I fortunately bought mine for $2200 and sold my 4090 for $1800 so it only cost me $400 to upgrade but still.
Arrmy@reddit
Yeah. Because of the Vram and everything 4k really is go big or go home. Its just so anemic without a 90 card. I was really fortunate to get a 5090 for $2k [even if I had to upgrade my 7800 to a 9800 to get that price].
bp1976@reddit
I upgraded my 7800 to a 9800 because why not LOL. Ended up just doing a new build, grabbed a 5070 and put it in my old build and sold it to a buddy for like 1500.
Went from B650 to X870, 7800 to 9800, 32GB RAM to 64GB RAM. At the time still had the 4090 in the build because 5090s hadnt come back down to earth from launch, there was that sweet spot that lasted like 2 months when you could get them close to MSRP which is when I bought mine for 2200. Two weeks after I bought I got the email from NVIDIA to buy the FE for MSRP LOL, just stuck with the Zotac card I had, I have no complaints.
Did you undervolt yours? I rarely pull more than 300W on mine and see no performance loss with a pretty conservative UV.
Arrmy@reddit
Nah I have it on stock settings. Im sure I could push it but it already murders everything I put it up against. I think if ram comes back down I might go from 2x16 to 2x32 but thats all for me until the end of life on the socket where ill update the cpu. I think I have an x850 tomahawk.
bp1976@reddit
Look up undervolting guides, you can do it with MSI Afterburner. It isnt that hard, and it isn't about gaining performance but reducing power draw without losing perfomance.
It will make your room less of an oven when you game, which is the main reason I do it. Plus pulling less power is just better.
Arrmy@reddit
I game in a very well cooled basement and have 10 fans on the case so it basically never gets hot, but the energy savings would be nice. I'll take a look when I've got a spare day!
bp1976@reddit
It is really easy to do, and there is really no risk doing it since you are doing it with software. Takes about 20 minutes to do it, then run some stress tests/benchmarks etc. A couple of hours of dialing it in if you are a super minmaxer.
I spent maybe 45 mins total. Ran benchmarks, set UV, run benchmarks again to make sure it didnt tank performance, then just gamed as usual to stress test. No crashes and power draw was much lower, I was happy. I am sure you can really get granular with it but I wasn't that concerned.
Arrmy@reddit
As someone who tried to do 4k without a 90 card and wanted max fps, I urge you to reconsider. Thr vram is really important. When I played 4k on the 1080ti-- it was fine because it was 9 years ago. When I upgraded that 1080ti to a 3080 I was frustrated by not being able to get 120 fps with a triple a game with dlss on. You will notice the difference. I understand the price difference is obscene.
But to be honest, that price difference is one of the reasons I regret even getting a 4k monitor at all. 1440p high fps is way more achievable. Good luck with your build mi amigo.
bp1976@reddit
Yuuuup...depending on the game even the 5090 barely gets 4k60 with path tracing on.
People dont realize how fucking demanding 4k is, especially these modern games with RT/PT.
I am playing Death Stranding 2 and with all the settings cranked and RT enabled I have to use DLSS Quality to get 90FPS, and that is with a 5090.
Stolen_Sky@reddit
Fair enough.
My current build is very similar to what you have planned there. I have 7800x3d, 5080, and a 240hz QD OLED screen. It's breathtakingly pretty.
You have a good partlist there. The 5080 is a fantastic card that will play just about anything at 4k. The screen is a solid investment that will really impress.
DrKaassouffle@reddit (OP)
Sounds good!
So all the parts do fit each other right? I might double the RAM as suggested in an other comment but that would be about it then.
Stolen_Sky@reddit
It all looks good to me. I have the MAG Tomahawk B650 mobo, and you have the B850. Both are great.
I would consider a Corsair RM850x PSU - it's pretty much the best PSU there is, although your current one is also good.
You do not need 64Gb of RAM for gaming, that's a total waste of money, especially considering how much RAM costs right now. 32Gb is all you need, and those sticks you have are really good.
FreedomNext@reddit
If money is no issue, RTX6000 ada is the way to go.
miroljubni-rom@reddit
This, the rtx 5090 is a class of its own.
Destructo-Bear@reddit
You really should get the 5090
bandita07@reddit
a build for max FPS without 5090 is a joke. Also 32 gigs of ram also low in my opinion. 2TB SSD is small as well, I have 4TB but almost full with my games and windows/apps..
you said money is not an issue, then go with the 5090, 64G ram and 4TB SSD.. The rest is just to match to this 3 main component.
Lord_Hector_Bear@reddit
You might want 64GB of memory.
The rest is nice.
I_Dunno_Its_A_Name@reddit
Why? 32 is more than enough right now.
Lord_Hector_Bear@reddit
It's better to have it when you don't need it than don't have it when you need it.
But it's just a matter of preference, I'd upgrade to 64GB if the price isn't crazy atp. ;p
coolboy856@reddit
Not a matter of preference when price inxrease 4x in under a year?
He does not need 64gb for anything, stupid waste of money to buy at all-time highs
Lord_Hector_Bear@reddit
And it won't improve in any shortcoming years. If you buy it and can benefit from it, then it's worth the pricetag. Modern factory, simulation games benefits greatly from having more than 32GB of RAM. If you play these games, then it's a matter of preference that you should get more than 32GB.
Price of graphics card has always been ridiculously high, but you can still bit your tongue and buy one anyway. It just happens to be more noticeable with RAM.
The best way to not waste money is to not play games and buy a pc at all if you're complaining about how expensive it can get.
coolboy856@reddit
No, you need to buy a Dubai Astral card, otherwise don't buy one at all.
What part of "he has no fucking use for it" did you not understand?
Lord_Hector_Bear@reddit
The part where you're not him.
DrKaassouffle@reddit (OP)
Do you think the extra memory is worth it? Was thinking about it but adding it already but don't really know what the advantages are.
Nek0maniac@reddit
Don't buy it now at least. Right now RAM is more expensive than ever and it will stay that way for a while. If you are using the PC for gaming only/primarily, you will not run out of RAM with 32GB anytime soon.
If later down the line you notice that you want to do more than just gaming, you can decide to upgrade then when the prices will hopefully be lower
Lord_Hector_Bear@reddit
I have 32GB and it's just enough for most of my use cases. Arguably, it should be enough for you too.
Lord_Hector_Bear@reddit
If you're playing games that use a lot of CPU, or just bad at managing browser tabs, having more RAM helps.
ecktt@reddit
Money is not an issue, but it is also not needed to pick the most expensive parts if those are not necessary.
I hear you loud and clear.
PCPartPicker Part List
miroljubni-rom@reddit
If money is no issue the rtx 5090 is the single best upgrade possible.
If that's too much, other things that could get you some small improvement in your gaming experience (maybe not in raw fps, but overall enjoyment) without the cost of a 5090 would be a 9850x3d (maybe even a 9950x3d if you do anything other than gaming), 64gb ram and a 4tb nvme drive. But as far as gaming at 4k with max fps goes, the 5090 is really what you want.
coolboy856@reddit
Phantom Spirit is basically 1:1 in noise and thermals, while not being expensive as shit
MrJaydenW@reddit
Maybe switch the aircooler to an aio? Good build tho
breakConcentration@reddit
I would personally up the PSU wattage, but the build looks solid. Also more than 2TB storage I’d recommend.
Here some more advices: https://tweakers.net/best-buy-guide/desktops/beste-4k-game-pc
Stolen_Sky@reddit
850W is more than enough for a 5080 with an ATX 3.1 PSU.
TheCrazyChemist@reddit
As someone else said, maybe consider another PSU. The one you chose is not bad (it's rated B in the PSU Tier List), but if you spend so much money, I would take one with an A rating (doesn't have to be expensive, something like an Montech Century II Gold 850W or even 1000W is also good).
Maybe 64GB of RAM instead of 32GB, if it's not too expensive for you.
And you should at least buy one additional fan for your case. The case has 3 120mm fans pre-installed on the front and I would at least add 1 120mm or 140mm fan (iirc the specs said 140mm fits) in the back of the case.
MDParagon@reddit
Get a better PSU: MSI Mag is decent, but not the best. You might as well get an S Tier
PSU Tier List
tacticall0tion@reddit
Is that just an opinion and fact listing? Or has the written fully tested and assessed all the specs?
Only because I can see at least one psu thats got an A+ rating, yet under testing the OCP failed and caused catastrophic failure
MDParagon@reddit
I'm not sure of the specifics, but based on it the About sheet it's a group of people doing the testing, it's not standardized, so it might as well be an opinion
