Have dog free zones been implemented in the UK?

This is NOT a political or religious question. I’m asking as a foreigner with a practical agenda.
I saw a BBC reel about how a religious community wanted dog free zones due to dogs being seen as haram.
I’m genuinely curious and a bit amused.
I’m also a dog owner and plan on visiting with my choco lab soon. Should I be concerned?
Has this been implemented?
PootMcGroot@reddit
Are you sure it was a BBC reel? It's standard nonsense fair for right-wing Facebook propaganda.
No, they don't exist. Some beaches are dog free, some playgrounds, and hospitals. Private businesses it's up to them, but most places are dog friendly.
What_Reality_@reddit
The bbc did a whole thing about it. It was all over the news a few weeks ago
Tim-Sanchez@reddit
All I can find is the BBC posting about cynophobia, not making a religious claim like OP is
What_Reality_@reddit
I’m not sure it was a religious thing. Here’s a news article about it
https://youtu.be/tP_86tDOXtA?si=6vyaJYJF4YSqMsBO
Tim-Sanchez@reddit
Exactly, it seems like OP just completely made up the religious angle
TellMeManyStories@reddit
As a dog owner... This isn't true - perhaps half of public places are open to dogs, and it's gradually reducing. It is super rare for a no-dogs place to become dog friendly, but the reverse gradually happens.
More and more shopping centers, parks, etc are saying "guide dogs only".
Necessary_Spread_511@reddit
Quite likely Beeb are reporting on a FB/right wing troll post eg verify, I suspect OP hasn't watched it all
terryjuicelawson@reddit
If anything dogs are allowed in far too many places these days, I keep seeing them in shops and restaurants. Dog free parks and beaches tend to be ignored by owners. The idea of some religious minority having any clout like you have apparently read is ridiculous.
escapingfromelba@reddit
Now there's a haram law I could get behind. I even like dogs, I just think this current fad has descended into a mass delusion.
thebusconductorhines@reddit
No, the BBC made that reel merely to try and inflamed inter religious tension in the UK
Tim-Sanchez@reddit
Did the BBC make that reel?
thebusconductorhines@reddit
The OP said they saw "a BBC" reel about it so I guess so?
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
Yes I think it’s still up on their Instagram.
Tim-Sanchez@reddit
Could you link it? Which BBC account? Because I can't find any BBC reel about it
TrousersCalledDave@reddit
By "made that reel", does that mean report news? This is my first time hearing about this but evidently there's truth then.
If this is true then yes, my religious tension is absolutely inflamed if it's to be suggested that dogs can only walk in certain areas of the UK due to Islamic beliefs. I don't think that's too outrageous of a statement.
Tim-Sanchez@reddit
I don't think the BBC made the reel or reported on the news, because it's not true.
TrousersCalledDave@reddit
Yeah fair enough, I can't find any evidence of it although a few people in this thread claim to have seen it. Weird.
wheelartist@reddit
That refers to something that happened over a decade ago. The right wing dusted it off for their usual nonsense recently.
Yes, some people are twits about religion, but they're weirdo outliers. You'll be fine, as others have said, some parks and beaches are dog free.
I need daily care and quite a percentage of care workers are Muslim, I've only had two weirdos in over a decade. One was covering for my usual staff and decided to inform me he was super strict about alcohol and couldn't accompany me to a pub restaurant for a meal with friends only after we arrived even though he was told when he showed up. The other screamed in terror and cowered when she saw a kitten.
bennythefish@reddit
No it hasn’t happened
Rhiyxnnxh@reddit
Honestly, this post is the first I've ever heard about it.
I know there are many indoor places and some sections in parks and other outdoor spaces that are dog-free but this has been in place for ages so I don't think this is what you're referring to.
I'm in London and haven't heard of or seen any dog free zones created for "religion related purposes"
Also, (I'm not Muslim so feel free to correct me) dogs aren't haram?? I think it's only haram to keep them inside the house but dogs on the whole aren't an issue
wheelartist@reddit
Dogs aren't haram but their saliva is considered dirty in Islam. If a Muslim gets dog saliva on them or their clothes, they have to do a full on self cleanse before they can pray.
Basically it's the same as the "pork is Muslim kryptonite" nonsense. Blown out of proportion by racists.
Anxious_wank@reddit
Only places where dogs get banned is on popular sides of the beaches/promenade in the Summer months, and even then there's large sections they're still allowed, just not populated parts and that's just purely to allow kids to play safely and without sticking their hands in shit. The signs will be there.
Anything else is bullshit.
VolcanicBear@reddit
Aside some beaches for specific months during summer and some kids playgrounds, no public space is explicitly dog free.
Dolphin_Spotter@reddit
Its a requirement for the Blue Flag award that a beach is dog free. After all no one wants to make their sandcastle with dog pee sand. As a dog owner this seems perfectly reasonable.
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
My lab just huffed in agreement
RafRafRafRaf@reddit
No. Except popular beaches in the summer.
People wanting it and being able to make it happen are very far apart.
Harrry-Otter@reddit
There’s a few other places, but they usually tend to be with good reason like protection of wildlife. Not just people not liking dogs.
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
Good to hear
AfternoonPenalty@reddit
The dog ban isn't anything to do with what you are hearing either OP, its down to people being idiots and not cleaning up after their pooch. No one wants to mix their icecream and dog dump.
SirGuestWho@reddit
I have not heard of any dog free zones implemented in the UK, nothing on any local or national news programs, and trust me there would be. Most places are dog friendly and you should be fine
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
Good to hear!
RaymondBumcheese@reddit
No. It was a stupid rumour made up by far right agitators that got gleefully picked up on by a few people because they are misanthropic idiots.
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
Wonderful
Prudent-Pressure2146@reddit
I’ve never heard of this and I live in a major city.
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
That’s what I need to hear!
Fuzzy_Cantaloupe6353@reddit
Not in the way your talking about no.
Dogs are banned from some park areas like sports courts, children's play areas, dog free zones.
Some beaches are dog free or have seasonal dog restrictions.
But there aren't dog free towns, total no go areas or places dogs can't live etc.
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
Nice
MawsAcidTemple@reddit
>I saw a BBC reel about how a religious community wanted dog free zones due to dogs being seen as haram.
Lots of people want lots of things, but it's funny how the media (and OP apparently) buy into it when it's coming from certain groups and not others.
Successful_Bar9187@reddit (OP)
Didn’t actually buy into it. That’s why I asked, as I wasn’t sure.
Excellent_Worker5527@reddit
Some beaches in the summer have a no dog policy. Nothing at all to do with any religion and more to do with having a clean space for people to enjoy.
Personally, as someone with a dog phobia, I wish there WERE more dog free spaces because as it stands I can't go into the countryside or anywhere there might be dogs for fear of an off leash dog running up to me.
insertitherenow@reddit
No. Nonsense flying about that has no basis in truth. Along the lines of Muslims want pork banned in schools and Xmas celebrations stopped because they don’t like it.
isntitobviousnow@reddit
No. Although Tower Hamlets are trying to make it as hostile for dog owners as possible, but its no surprise when you look at the Mayor.
ak30live@reddit
In what ways are they making it hostile for dog owners?
fourlegsfaster@reddit
No. Dog free-zones or areas where dogs have to be leashed do exist, but the common places for restrictions are beaches, children's play areas and sports fields. Despite laws, and bins, and some responsible owners, there is still a lot of dog excrement around, or maybe I think that because I live on a street that leads to a park. They are good as gold in the park where others can see them, but if the owners can get away without picking up, they will.
Upbeat_Branch_4231@reddit
Never heard of this. Sounds like "fake news" from a certain social media platform proclaiming to tell the truth. Here in Hampshire dogs are welcomed just about everywhere, except food supermarkets.
cheezus-rocks@reddit
How a lot of this "journalism" works is the reporter will look or stumble upon a religious weirdo outlier and then report it as a fact representing an entire community.
I know Muslims who have dogs and they would find any attempt to stop them very funny.
ProfessorYaffle1@reddit
No. It hasn't been implemented and other than on private premises, is extremely unlikley to be.
Some places are dog-free - for instance, many shops ban dogs (other than service dogs) , restaurants often don't allow dogs or only allow them in some areas, some pubs woll allow dogs in the bar but not in any separate restaurant area and so on.
If you are going to be staying in hotels then check first - many, especially larger chains and budget hotels don't allow pets. IF you rent a holiday cottage / apartment then check the listing - it's down to individual property owners whether or not pets are allowed and what restrictions they have (e.g. they may allow peets but not in bedrooms, for example)
If you use public trasport you should not allow your dog on the seats
Active_Doubt_2393@reddit
Never heard of such nonsense. However as an atheist, I'd love to see dog free zones. Keep your horrible barky smelly bastards away.

FornyHucker22@reddit
Tough 😛
tyrefire2001@reddit
No of course not.
Numerous_Green4962@reddit
Some beaches and children's areas of parks have restrictions on dogs but not because they are considered haram, indeed dogs aren't considered haram or najasah, indeed many Muslims keep dogs even though scriptures do discourage the keeping of them as pets rather than working dogs, and they are very clear that if a dog licks your eating utensils you should wash them before use. (The utensil not the dog.)
ClimbsNFlysThings@reddit
We're a pro dog country. I was on the train yesterday and the group of six, TOTAL Strangers were fawning of a small chocolate coloured curly haired puppy of something who was 9 months old was a sight.
The collective noise when the owner mentioned jumping down from a chair this pup had broken it's leg was otherworldly.
Ignore this shit.
Djinjja-Ninja@reddit
Some, and no you shouldn't.
Most dog free zones are for practical hygiene purposes and nothing to do with religion, things like children's playparks, and parts of beaches. Or where there is certain wildlife that they don't want disturbed.
For instance the beach near me, between may 1 and September 30 have dog exclusion zones for parts of the beach. It amounts to maybe 30% of the beach area. Either side of the zones you can walk your dog as much as you like.
davus_maximus@reddit
Errr no, only fenced kiddy playgrounds tend to have "no dogs" signs. I've not heard of general public areas designated as dog free.
DanielReddit26@reddit
I've seen the odd beach which is - as well as free-access (but not "public areas") such as botanical gardens.
Odd_Gap_9491@reddit
Not a thing.
Neddlings55@reddit
Dogs are banned from certain areas, or subject to strict regulation in areas with PSPOs. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with it though.
If dog free areas start occuring it will be becauses of piss poor and irresponsible ownership.
ChelseaMourning@reddit
Absolutely not. Dogs are literally everywhere. It’s unusual to find a place that doesn’t allow dogs in. I’m talking parks, shops, cafes etc. While we’re a dog loving nation, it does pose problems for people with allergies/fears. My ex was terribly allergic to dogs and we’d often have to leave a pub or cafe because someone brought a dog in, because he’d spend the rest of the day/night having asthma trouble and sneezing constantly. It can be frustrating when you see the amount of “safe spaces” depleting because people are fitting dogs into their lifestyle and not vice versa.
The whole haram/sharia law thing is just right wing propaganda.
swordoftruth1963@reddit
Dog free beaches in many seaside towns. A positive step
