Please help me monitor savvy people

Hi! My current PC setup is pretty much just my HP Victus gaming laptop that I plan on hooking up to a monitor.
I’m looking for a curved, 24-27in, 144hz monitor that has great picture quality. I’m a causal gamer (Minecraft, Fortnite, sims etc) so I don’t want anything insanely expensive. Anything under $500 will do it for me. Please give me your best recs!! <3

What are the specs of your laptop (CPU & GPU)? If its not a high end model then a 1080p monitor would probably be best, in which case $500 would be well over what's required for a decent experience. 24'' would give you a sharper image with its higher pixel density, and 27'' is nicer if you want more screen space for multitasking outside of gaming. IPS panels are decent all rounders for the price.
So you could have a look at some of these:

I have a HP Victus, I’m gonna throw some random specs out there because idk what they mean
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU
AMD Ryzen 7 w/ Radeon 740M graphics
144Hz
Would I need to get a monitor that’s in the same range?

Those specs would suit a 1080p monitor better than a 1440p monitor, so the ones linked above would be suitable. You don't need to focus just on 144Hz, anything in that range or above will be fine,120-180Hz. You could go with a 480Hz monitor, but your laptop wouldn't be able to make the most of it.

Okay, thank you!
So if i wanted good picture quality, would the monitor I get still matter or is that just dependent on my pc?

It's a bit of both. It'll mainly depend on your PC, but even an amazing PC paired with a relatively low spec monitor wont provide an optimal experience, and vice versa. Generally when people are planning a PC build, preferred monitor resolution and FPS expectation would be a good place to start and build the PC based on that. But since you already have a gaming laptop, your optimal monitor choice has already been determined by the laptop specs. So a 1080p, 120-180Hz (maybe 240Hz) with a low response time (1-3ms) monitor l would be a decent pairing. The higher resolution you go, the more demanding it is for the system and the worse the game will run.
