10 Year Employment History

Do any of you start feeling shitty about yourself when filling out the mandatory 10-year employment history for CDL jobs?
The longest I stayed with a company was like 1.5 years and the shortest was a couple months, with gaps of unemployed in between. Sometimes I feel so ashamed and embarrassed flling it out because who would wanna hire me? Sadge

No, in 25 years Ive had four trucking jobs.
First 3 months was with Swift trying to team drive with my brother. (That was a disaster). 18 months at Curry Ice & Coal. 8 years at McCleod Express. 15 years at ADM trucking.
KILRgamer@reddit
I'm just chuckling about "Swift" and "disaster" being in the same sentence. 😁

I just fudge some dates. Its better to keep it clean and simple. I dont think they're diving that deep. They just want clean records and a little experience.
oasuke@reddit
They are. I had an interview with a good LTL recently and the first thing he mentioned was that I had alot of jobs. Clean MVR, no tickets, etc. Never got a call back and Im 100% positive it's because of the amount of jobs I had. It's bullshit.
Dense_Particular3134@reddit
I don't have that problem.... been working for the same company for 35 years
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
Are you making $200k/yr?
Dense_Particular3134@reddit
No I own my own truck and I don't want to work that hard anymore. Last year I worked 115 days, grossed $125, profit was $72k.
oneshadeoff@reddit
That's fantastic! Proud of you this is for you 🎖️
redditthrowaway663@reddit
Nope. Not once.
But, hypothetically ... I'd get a copy of my DAC report, and if there were time frames not on there, I'd end up working for a company that hypothetically down because freight was bad, then owner died/retired.
Hypothetically... of course.
Flimsy_Map_4425@reddit
Some companies will want tax documents to back it up.
redditthrowaway663@reddit
And you are under no legal obligation to provide it.
I had a company try that, and claimed the DOT required it.
I called DOT to confirm, and they said "no, we don't."
Called the company back, spoke to the same person, informed her what DOT said, and she hung up on me.
I told people to steer clear of them for a while.
That was back in '12

I've done this. Put I was driving for a O/O that went out of business. Usually works if you have a long established resume already.
Puzzled-Flan-7674@reddit
Shaheen transport In Live Oak ripped me off for a weeks pay under the guise of trainees don't get paid , yet I'm driving 11 states, non-stop?
Puzzled-Flan-7674@reddit
Thank you!!!!! Thought it was just me. Its a FUKIN bitch trying to get a class A driver job!!!!!
Puzzled-Flan-7674@reddit
Maybe if I spoke middle eastern. I could get a class A driver job?
Puzzled-Flan-7674@reddit
I'm going on 8 months looking for class A driver job. Whats the secret?
chico-dust@reddit
No, because 90% of these jobs are hot ass. Any eemployer should look for a clean MVR and be happy when a driver can show 10 years of accident free driving imo.
jabber1990@reddit
when I was 22 i was filling out my first application for a company and they wanted 10 years of work history, they got mad at me and almost fired me for not doing so
....how do you fill in 10 years of work history if you don't have 10 years of work history?
SnooTomatoes2834@reddit
That's so silly. Can you list 7th grade to whenever you stopped going to school to fill in the gap?
delawder29@reddit
I've actually felt like felt like that before. I don't have the most impressive resume when it comes to trucking jobs. There was a few times when the recruiter would speak to me about my employment history only to realize that when they did the driver verification it came back with companies that I never worked for because the company I was employed with had changed names or went under ownership of another company That was outsource to a staff agency. I looked at the employment record on myself and I said that there was for companies I never worked for again to only find out they changed names or something else happened legally. I cleared it up to where my resume looked to hell of a lot better. At the end of it they only cared about my safety. But mind you if you take a break from driving for almost 3 years and some companies can't hire you due their insurance.

Cover the holes with uber and keep a copy of the whole resumen somewhere safe

A lot of the trucking industry is contract work. Short job stays aren't unusual in contract work. If a potential trucking company employer doesn't understand that, I wouldn't want to work for them anyway. If they don't understand what contract work is, what else about the trucking industry do they not understand?
maroonblood94@reddit
I hate doing 10 year employment history. Majority of trucking companies lie about pay, home time, etc… It’s no wonder most drivers leave companies after very short periods. Very few truly good trucking companies out there that pay well and also treat you well.
jabber1990@reddit
according to my DAC I WAS the problem
bootyhole_licker69@reddit
same here man, bunch of short gigs and gaps, still got hired, they mostly care about clean record now, crazy how picky they pretend to be when it’s this hard to find work
jabber1990@reddit
don't do that, the AI can pick up that its AI
MajorHymen@reddit
I dislike job hopping so never been much of a problem with me. The shortest I’ve stayed with a company is 3 years the longest is 7.
boogityshmoogity@reddit
The only stint I have shorter than 7yrs was the 9 months I did at Swift at the very beginning. Now I’m 7yrs in at my latest and plan to retire from here in, you guessed it, 7 more years.
NoRelation1491@reddit
If I was too go apply for a job right now it looks really bad, 10 jobs in 10 years, BUT 6 years of that was pre-CDL and I had promoted into 3 different jobs (same department, more money ect) at 1 previous company.
In 4yrs of driving I've had 3 jobs, and I've been hauling fuel for 2 of them, I'm honestly staying put because the money is good, and when it comes to to start applying for Hazmat Jobs, Linehaul, P&D gigs I want a solid job history.
OneMulatto@reddit
I hate that shit. I have to explain myself why I was unemployed and fill in these gaps with made up BS? Like, who the F are you? You need to know why I was unemployed Jan through March. Big deal.
Heaven forbid you get a date wrong. I had a company refuse me (central transportation back in like 2015). Hiring manager actually called me back just for me to come in and him tell me I lied on my application about a job I had.
My hiring date was off by 3 months. He got me for that.
Live-Door3408@reddit
There's absolutely no reason to feel bad about yourself over that, there's lots of companies out there that suck and lie to you. Worrying about what employers think makes sense. I've been with 4 companies in just 3 years myself but what can I do? These companies lie to you about very important aspects that can lead to being deal breakers. I'm already looking into number five btw too lol
Elite_Slacker@reddit
Who would hire you? Many people, apparently.
Rising_Awareness@reddit
Nope. All my fucks went that way. 👉
NakedAggression@reddit
Never feel bad.

In August I make 10 years with Crete Carrier, so if I ever decide to go local that part of an application will be easy!
