@ What Age did you or someone you know start grunting/sighing each time they get up/sit down?

I'm asking for a friend...
middle-aged groan?
tommydearest@reddit
You mean dad noises?

My friends used to tease me about my old man grunts and knee cracks since my early 30's! Years and years of paintball ruined my knees. If they could only hear them now, my daughter sometimes looks at me like she can't believe that sound just came out of my joint.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Maybe we have earned the right to grunt and should see grunting as a badge of honor.
Far_Designer_7704@reddit
I started at 48 😆 I think I started it to make fun of my husband b/c he is 12 years older and was doing it. Then it became genuine. Bummer.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
The cycle of life. At least now you both have one more thing in common. 😀
BelliBlast35@reddit
I keep them folks at a distance
tanhauser_gates_@reddit
I was a bike messenger for 8 years and have been an avid cyclist forever - so from age 18.
cmt38@reddit
Not yet.
FlatSixFun@reddit
Same. Though I have friends my age that have these issues, and I’ve noticed it was the ones that weren’t doing sports or outdoor activities extensively when they were younger.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
May the force be with you.
driftless@reddit
Late 30s, early 40s.
Fulghn@reddit
I was born an old man - so, since forever?
What I do far more frequently is sigh. I've lived in my own head since I was very young and express minor frustrations with an audible sigh. I'm aware some folks consider that unsettling. I am also incapable of constantly self-monitoring myself to not do it. Sigh. Life ain't fair.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Quite Gen X, oh well.
dirthawg@reddit
17.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Then you are doing it for effect :)
dirthawg@reddit
I didn't say I wasn't. I've been in my 70s since I was a teen.
Oiggamed@reddit
Same here. Back got fucked up at 16. Been an old man ever since.
turtle0831@reddit
To be fair, I’ve done this since I was like 7 to annoy people. Now it’s just a habit lol.
gmkrikey@reddit
I absolutely refuse to do this. Don’t let the old man in.
Insightseekertoo@reddit
My parents started at 40, I haven't hit that point unless it's after an incredibly hard hike/bike ride or other long exercise event.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
I think it might also ne a social thing. My direct family really does not do it, but my wife and mother in-law really do. Which is to say, I have been infected!
Insightseekertoo@reddit
I often wonder about that. It's like fake drama.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
There is something to that, there definitely is a drama component for some people.

Ouch
swordrat720@reddit
Two kids and a military injury. Yeah.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
My knee locked up in basic in 89, almost had to start over.
swordrat720@reddit
You know when you wring out a wash cloth? That was my back
swordrat720@reddit
5 herniated disks. Ruck threw me sideways.
RightSideBlind@reddit
In my early 50s, I think.
What's weird is I don't have to do it. I'm not having any difficulty standing up or sitting down. It just... happens. It's weird.
Standard_Gur30@reddit
That’s me. I can run five miles no problem, but getting out of my car somehow requires a grunt.
MaximumJones@reddit
I do now because my knees hurt after my motorcycle wreck.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
My VMax tried but failed., lucky for me.
PahzTakesPhotos@reddit
I was young, in my 20s. Arthritis came for my knees much sooner than I could have expected.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
That really sucks.
PahzTakesPhotos@reddit
Yeah. It runs in my family. But when you're a kid/teen, you're indestructible. I even opted for low-impact stuff; I did marathon cycling. That's low-impact! That's not going to ruin my knees! My first big knee injury happened at 18, when I was running from someone in a snowball fight. I blew out my knee like a football player and went down in a snowy blaze of glory.
Had my first total knee replacement at age 39. My other knee at 46.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
My first memoral injury was tobogganing when someone in cowboy boots whacked me in the knee cap. who wears cowboy boots tobogganing?

So I'm loosing... Sad
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Not bad.

I intend on using this meat sack until it falls apart. (Feels like meatsack should be a compound word.)
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Il go down kicking too. Failure is notish an option.

Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Yet.
buffywalkswithalimp@reddit
I’ve learned, since hitting my 50s, that life comes with sound effects!
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Thx?
Independent-Shoe9557@reddit
Not so much a groaning question, but at what age did you folks stop being able to read shit ? Like the small print on the side of a spray paint can. Just want to know how long until dry ! Jebus
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
40 something. I remember the day, I was eating a hamburger and realized it was blurry. Been down hill since then.
Coffeeyespleeez@reddit
yesterday.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
You too?
gjohill@reddit
Started in my early 30's probably. Runs in my family, all the men on one side, all sound the same too.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Interesting...

Me when I have to reach the floor
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
:)
Independent-Shoe9557@reddit
I’m 56. Noticed about a year ago the reaching down to pick something off the floor I groaned and was like wtf !???
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Yep, I'm a 69er.
Independent-Shoe9557@reddit
Oh no shoes are untied. Guess that ok.
Macombdiscrete@reddit
About 50.
EnjoyingTheRide-0606@reddit
A close friend had back surgery at 27 for a bulged muscle after a disc slipped back into alignment in his tailbone. So he was a grunter when I last socialized with him. We had a falling out. I’m ok with it ending. He’s not someone I want in my life anymore.
I walk with a group at work. One guy sighs deeply at least 4x when we walk. No one asks him what’s up, is he ok. Once in a while someone does. He says he’s tired. Sad.
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
Ya, sad. I need to get myself moving more. Been working way too much for way too long.
Background_Tax4626@reddit
This question hurts my knees.
kawyckoff@reddit
I’m sorry to say it started at about 20🤪
xjeanie@reddit
The only time I’ve done in was to groan inside my head while I was recovering from open heart surgery. I will not sound like that. I’ll hold it in first. lol
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
You just need more time.
Serious-Mongoose-387@reddit
way back in my mid 20s i met a guy in his early 20s who always grunted. it was pretty weird. we worked on cars a lot, so every time he laid on the garage floor or got up again, and every time he was turning a wrench or picked up some heavy part. i was like come on dude you sound like you’re 60.
Zinjifrah@reddit
My wife is now constantly pointing out the dad noises.
Letterkenny did it best

Awesome grrreat
Renax127@reddit
Not sure, mid/late 40s. I can stand up without groaning but I can never stand without making noise. Some joints are going to be popping loud for all to hear
Grouchy_Ad_937@reddit (OP)
I feel lucky to have made it to 56, although maybe I just noticed.
