Growing up in rural PA, I knew a few farm families where the extra money helped and the hours made sense. But outside of very niche lifestyle scenarios like that, it’s not a job most people would want.

Problem is, some think they want it and we get stuff like the FL train event recently.

It's mostly retired boomers.

And by retired, I mean no retirement savings or investments. Just living off social security and food stamps.

FL train track lady was 67. I deal with similar geriatrics with failing spacial and reasoning abilities in school buses on the regular. Since school is out, I'm seeing them more in drive-away school buses instead of ones hauling children.

The problems are the same though, no turn signal usage. Hands in a death grip on the steering wheel at 11 and 1, eyes locked completely forward. It's like mirrors don't exist.

They don't keep right except to pass, which is made worse by the insistence of going 10 under in light traffic and they either can't see a stop line or don't know what they are due to rolling past constantly.

Middle school, 1978 or 9. My bus driver took a corner too fast, got the bus up on two wheels, sideswiped a tree. The tree was the only thing that keep us from going over into a creek. Lots of minor injuries and I think one kid broke his arm. Bus drivers have sucked forever.

Ours do the opposite. They drive at least 10 mph slower than the speed limit everywhere they go, but blind the shit out of you with all the led lights in the universe and then do their best to block the entire road as soon as the yellow lights go on and still moving forward. They've almost hit me head on several times. Crazy. Theres gotta be a better way to get kids to school, right?
