Did you like the song “Woo Ha” by Busta Rhymes?

I was in the car with my daughter when this song came on the 90’s on 9 channel on XM -
I had friends who all loved this song and I hated it so much. We listened to it again and I just don’t understand how or why people liked this song!
edasto42@reddit
Yes. Absolute classic. This was many people’s introduction to Busta. There’s so many reasons why this dong landed. First, that beat was literally out of this world. It sampled a song called ‘Space’ and it sounded like nothing else coming out in 1996. That alone set it apart.
Then you get into Busta’s flow. It sounded more like dancehall toasting than other rappers out there in 96. The rapid fire lyrics contrasted from most other hip hop that was going down the smoother direction. Plus it was fun and cartoonish. Basically Busta walked so people like Tyler the Creator could run.
I could go on about this song and the video, but I think you get the picture
walter_grimsley@reddit
I have PTSD from this song. When I moved into the dorms everyone was blasting this on the big stereos they brought from home. Constantly heard that bass line through the paper mache walls every day that whole first year.
Dare2BeU420@reddit
I like any song by Busta
cecil021@reddit
I loved Coolio and Busta Rhymes. It’s just fun music.
bassman314@reddit
I still have a broken neck from nodding my head too much…
HotTubSexVirgin22@reddit
You broke your neck before “Break Ya Neck” came out? I feel ya.
bassman314@reddit
It’s like you don’t know the lyrics to Woo Hah…
HotTubSexVirgin22@reddit
Don’t wreck my discotheque.
Physical-Dare5059@reddit
😂 I always thought he said “got that egg nog shit to make you break your neck”, made absolutely no sense to me to I still jammed out
bassman314@reddit
Hey, you were still in check!
Enough_Structure_95@reddit
I still love it!
Corporate-Scum@reddit
It was dumb then. It’s dumb now. Busta rode “Scenario” to the bank.
ipainttreesandstuff@reddit
Fuck yeah. And the remix with odb. I just watched the video on Saturday again.
pi_guy@reddit
I saw Busta Rhymes open for Wu-Tang Clan a few years ago and ODB's son came out and did "Woo Ha" with Busta near the end. Everyone was hyped up!
Its such a fun song!
ShivvyMcFly@reddit
Only song from him I do like
Tylerdurden389@reddit
Made me a fan when I saw the video on MTV when I was 11 years old. Funniest rapper ever (at the time for me). Can't say I remember much of the album outside that song though. The next album had lots of good ones though.
YEMBOTT@reddit
put your hands where your eyes can see
HaloTightens@reddit
The entire album, The Coming, is amazing. I played it in my car endlessly, and still do sometimes. Busta is great.
WiseDrink2324@reddit
Used to. Still do, but I use to, too
Radiant-Mycologist72@reddit
Yeah, I didn't like it either. Like some of his other stuff so maybe I'll like it now.
jab904@reddit
Loved him since the very first second I heard this song.
unclebea@reddit
Ya ya ya, ya ya
_pray4snow_@reddit
"I said yeah, Flipmode. Flipmode is the greatest."
But this song... wasn't my favorite of his.

That music video was wild.
EsotericAbstractIdea@reddit
All of his videos were wild
Pogokat@reddit
Gimme some more was his best
Big_Slope@reddit
The intro pops into my head every time I see a little kid fall down.
Any_Nectarine_7806@reddit
While more of an ensemble piece, Flipmode Squad Meets Defmost Squad is fantastic as well.
Magica78@reddit
I've never heard it, but I can guarantee I'll hate any song that's titled a noise a child would make.
Narc78@reddit
This song was so crazy. His rhymes, the beat, the video. Still a banger.
dwreckhatesyou@reddit
In the common parlance of my people: Duh.
Senior-Afternoon-786@reddit
Low to mid tier for Busta. I preferred leaders of the new school to his early solo career and that has everything to do with the sound engineering and not really Busta’s flow or cadence. He has always had a solid trajectory with flow development but the producers and beat makers around him had varying results.
Compare Woo Ha to say, his part in Scenario by ATCQ, and tell me I am wrong.
mondomiketron@reddit
The ODB remix was so tits
Gulf-Zack@reddit
That east coast sound was always underrated
Dramatic-Dark-4046@reddit
Yo, Busta was fire back then.
cornerofgreystreet_@reddit
He’s still got it. Seen him live 3 times.
sly-3@reddit
easily in Top 5 mc of all time.
Euphoric_Evidence414@reddit
You people had enough? Gimme some more.
tarmgabbymommy79@reddit
What are his latest? Genuinely interested.
BogeyLowenstein@reddit
Same, he’s everywhere and I love it
meizhong@reddit
All except for predicting the world was gonna end in 1999, he was on point! Still good now.
catsoncrack420@reddit
No. It was the studio production era of Hip Hop , more access to bigger production budgets, less raw organic sounds. He lost some street cred for that in NYC.
sorryforyachtyrockin@reddit
Loved it. Listened to Busta back from the L.O.N.S. days.
Remarkable_Major7710@reddit
Scenario is one of the greatest posse cuts of all time!
I really liked Charlie Brown, I thought he was on Busta’s level as an MC, but just never blew up the same way
Wreckingshops@reddit
I won't put Charlie on that level but he was solid. Dinco was never that great and it takes a lot to salvage his part of "Scenario" because it starts so hot w/ Phife and Charlie at least maintains the hype. Takes Q and Busta to bring it back big.
I heard you rushed and rushed to attack...
Legitimate_Bird_5712@reddit
"RAWR RAWR GOES THE DUNGEON DRAGON!"
Remarkable_Major7710@reddit
Their styles were different but Charlie Brown had good rhymes and sense of humour that I liked.
BleechInYourEye@reddit
But Dinco rates more than 4…
dumpsterfiremktg@reddit
Huge Busta Rhymes fan but yes, Charlie Brown was absolutely super talented and charismatic! I don't even know the story but it really sucked he didn't get a chance to do a solo album. My theory is that Leaders second album bombed and the world was enthralled with Busta's verse on scenario which basically was the catalyst for his hall of fame solo career, leaving the rest of LONS in the dust. They were a fun group though and really creative.
Remarkable_Major7710@reddit
They had a very public break up live on MTV, and C Brown resented Busta’s success, so I think he did it to himself, sadly.
rubbish_heap@reddit
Watched this in erview with Dante Ross about LONS recently, the whole story is really interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgfR7QO1GnQ
ialsohaveadobro@reddit
I guess I'm just not sure what's not to like.

Revolutionary-Emu154@reddit
You know he comes through to wreck the discotheque…
WOOO HA!!!!!!
hyzerKite@reddit
Was what my hs graduating class was yelling walking out of the gym with our diplomas. Busta ended up being even more legendary than at that time. From Leaders of the New School to now is a hell of a journey with everyone loving you. True, unique. king of hip-hop. I actually declared the creative style hip-hop and the hard shit rap, back in the day. Like NWA was rap, and Tribe Called Quest was hip-hop. Seams funny now.

Is it that part that makes you hate it?
To each their own but there are much more hateable songs from that time
shebreathes@reddit
Fuck yes.
rosewalker42@reddit
No.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
I'm a big 90s hip hop fan but I absolutely hated this song.
I like "Ginmie Some Mo" by Busta.
Withnail_I_am_I_am@reddit
So you must've hated Slam by Onyx, too. I got pulled into rap by the gimmicky shit and wasn't a fan of East Coast rap until later on.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
It's more the flow and the beat I'm not into. There's a lot of other gimmicky shit I was into like "Make em say uhhh". I actually went out and bought that CD and realized the entire album was dreadful.
I definitely was a big time west coast rapper guy at the start. Although I was really into Wutang and Bone Thugs all at the same time.
Withnail_I_am_I_am@reddit
Yeah, I was West coast. Buddy of mine had all the CD's of the East Coast and I was like, what is this shit? MTV didn't play East like they did West and that was where I got all my music. And Houston, where I'm from, mostly played Houston rap.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
Yeah one of the first CDs I bought was Westside Connection and this was right after seeing the Bow Down video. I literally know the entire album by heart I've listened to it so much. Such an agressive angry album. They had a song dedicated to hating on the East coast and absolutely zero hints of any R&B which they also hated.
Ain't no bitches singing on dis record!
BleechInYourEye@reddit
Did you ever get Mack 10’s first album? You’d like that if you love the WS Connection
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
I actually haven't! I'll probably do that next as I've already collected Ice Cube's discography and WC.
WC is my favorite of the 3, his lines really hit hard. His album Guilty by Association is great.
BleechInYourEye@reddit
Tbh everybody else Cube put out had dope albums worth checking out too. From Yo-Yo to Kam, and Lench Mob, Mack 10, Cube’s great run wasn’t just his own albums
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
The post 9/11 Westside Connection album was pretty great as well.
Although I do have most of cubes solo album, the only one I spend a lot of time listening to is his War album. There's a lot of great tracks even if his "side kick" guy Short Chop was pretty horrible.
Kellzy1212@reddit
hitliquor999@reddit
The beat on this track is the theme from Psycho
BleechInYourEye@reddit
And Woo Hah! Got You All In Check is a callback to Sugarhill Gang
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
TIL. I haven't seen that movie.

As a shorty, playing in the front yard of the crib, I fell down and I bumped my head.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
Knowing as a shorty, I was always told That if I ain't gon' be part of the greatest I gotta be the greatest myself
(I literally had this intro playing in my head as I went to the bathroom and then came back to my phone and saw this response... What a trip!)
cmt38@reddit
Loved it actually!
babyBear83@reddit
Busta had some insane rhymes though, you gotta hand it to him. Not that every song was a hit but he is lightening fast. His style was distinct for that era of hiphop and I don’t like a lot of that stuff. There are a few songs I like from him though.
DDrewit@reddit
Yaw yaw yaaah yaw yaw yah.
ZipperJJ@reddit
I mean, it’s got that head-nod shit that make you break your neck so….yes?
Ginger630@reddit
I love that song!!!
Stuffleapugus@reddit
Hell yea. Busta couldn't miss back then.
Legitimate-Produce-1@reddit
I liked it because it made me laugh and laugh. Instant mood lifter.
SlackerDS5@reddit
Still do, he got that head nod isht that’ll break ya neck…
The videos sealed the deal. Like 100%. His videos were crazy.

tarmgabbymommy79@reddit
YES. This is a high vibration song that we don't have anymore. Bring this stuff back so we're not all in therapy, will ya?
Only_Jury_8448@reddit
I didn't like it when it was new, but now I love it.
The Ummah were a great production crew, Jay Dilla had his hands all over that album
sly-3@reddit
The Galt McDermott sample does a lot of heavy lifting, but a good choice nonetheless - https://youtu.be/FZPHsHBqGgE?si=bOBsGzwUvcbw6nLE

MontyRapid@reddit
What kind of question is this? It was a banger and now a classic!
snootchiebootchie94@reddit
Busta was consistently. He had at least one or two bangers on every album. His features were fire too. He wasn’t the best, but consistently kept you hype.
BigBabyWhale@reddit
Yes
MedusaMadman77@reddit
It's no "Playin Yourself" by Jeru the Damaja.
Chunklob@reddit
Flip mode is the illest
Quarrels-ofKoi@reddit
I think Biggie Smalls is the illest
pixelpheasant@reddit
No.
Pogokat@reddit
Didn’t listen to much rap, but loved busta for reasons that I can’t explain
jjkarate@reddit
I loved most of Busta's catalog except for Gimme Some More. The album version had not one, but two skits attached to the beginning.
SquirrelEnthusiast@reddit
No I prefer the mark Ronson version with ghost face
Geechie-Don@reddit
Yes
geese_moe_howard@reddit
I once dropped acid and watched the music video. I laughed so hard that I thought I was going to die.
Kellzy1212@reddit
Busta had some of the greatest videos! Hype Williams was on fire back then. He ruled hip hop like Spike ruled alternative.
Roland-Of-Eld-19@reddit
I prefer A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, Rakim
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
I like it but I don't love it.
Kellzy1212@reddit
As the kids say, it’s a bop. I think you’re in the minority, but everyone has that one song that irritates them for no real reason. 🤷♀️
LineImpossible3958@reddit
I do like the song and it’s so damn catchy it’s now stuck in my head just from reading your title
luxtabula@reddit
It's a top tier song, the music video was great.
WLH7M@reddit
Ya ya ya ya yaw
Appropriate-Neck-585@reddit
Frankly, YOU'RE this first person I have ever heard not liking this song. 😒
WoodenWeather5931@reddit (OP)
I know! That’s why I had to ask.
I’m still in the super minority on this.
FestivusRestOfUs@reddit
He had me all in check!
ImpossibleJob5788@reddit
No, that song was lame but Extinction Level Event is a decent album.
playfulwarning@reddit
Yes. As class of '96 I'm pretty sure it was a graduation requirement.
spazz720@reddit
It was a terrible single. Dude came off like a discount ODB. His next album he dialed it down a bunch and made a great one.
RodinKnox@reddit
Honestly don't think I've listened to this song in 20 years. I'm currently listening to it as I type this out. I still love it lol
Tofuloaf@reddit
See, the problem here is that you obviously do not have that head nod shit that make you break your neck.
Admirable-Reason-428@reddit
Whole album was dope. I love the intro to that track
Alarmed_Drop7162@reddit
Yah yah yah yah yah yah yah
GenericDave65@reddit
I had this on a cassette single
Scooter_McGavin_9@reddit
I actually bought the CD single of that song. Freshman year we just walked around the dorm shouting "Woo Ha!!!"
Eagles4077@reddit
Everyone loved that song
Fuckspez42@reddit
I still like that song
InfidelZombie@reddit
It ranks near the middle of the pack of rap songs to me, but that range is 0 out of 10 to 2 out of 10.
atomxv@reddit
I wasn't a huge fan but i remember driving around in my friend's ford probe blasting it.
Slim_Margins1999@reddit
Wow. That takes me back. I had a 95 Probe in like 2000. V6. Stick shift. That car was actually quite fun to drive.
peterdabit@reddit
Loved it and first time I saw the video I was so happy it was the bloke who had the killer guest verse in scenario by tribe called quest.
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
I hate rap but that was silly enough to enjoy.
PhoneJazz@reddit
Beat sampled from this trippy 1969 song Space

Song made me want to put everyone in check and claim it. "Check!".
Critical_Start2237@reddit
Yes
_buffy_summers@reddit
It was written to sell, not necessarily to have evocative lyrics. I like it, but it's not my favorite song by him.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
This song was the first song I ever heard from Busta Rhymes. I loved it. Actually, that entire album is really good.
Domitiani@reddit
Somehow this is the first time I've ever heard it and while I generally like Busta ... this one is a "pass" for me =/

Hell yea, love some Woo Ha
