What was the point of this war? The regime isn't changed if anything its just more extreme with the son being in charge. The economies of the world are ruined, energy prices through the roof. Literally zero positives to this entire thing, if anything it has shown that the USA is not fit to cope with modern drone based warfare.
PuertoricanMofongo@reddit
I'm thinking he thought it would be as easy as Venezuela(which still has the same regime btw). He really thought he could do complete regime change without boots in the ground.
Magjee@reddit
If they had kidnapped the Ayatollah maybe they would have the leverage to demand something
But in this case they killed an old man, who already had cancer and shifted Iranian politics more hardline
WitchesSphincter@reddit
Israel wanted their bitch to take the fall for attacking Iran. That was the whole plan.
BurialA12@reddit
The fact he tweeted this basically all but confirm he got duped into attacking Iran just for them
Magjee@reddit
He forgot he had the 12 day war last year
Guaire1@reddit
The us miltiary said days before the war began that they wanted israel to attack first so they didnt look as bad, so its the opposite of ypur reasoning really
WestcoastAlex@reddit
and now israel is PISSED they stopped.. Netanyahu is under immense pressure to go bomb Iran some more but he knows as we all do that Iran will flatten them without america's help
mschuster91@reddit
Lol nope. Israel is capable of defending itself from Iran on its own - especially now that virtually all allies of Iran (Syria's Assad, Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon) are effectively gone or at least seriously impeded. No one else stands on Iran's side any more, even Russia is gone as they are too busy with their shitshow in Ukraine, and China can't project force outside of its immediate proximity.
What Israel cannot do, however, is topple the Iranian regime. As much as the Mullahs would deserve it, the only way that can happen is if the US, EU, Israel, India and China would cooperate.
kapsama@reddit
You knoe you don't have to cheerlead for Israel's war making prowess just because you feel bad for the Holocaust.

Have you been living under a rock for the past 50 yrs?
Stubbs94@reddit
If we go back that far, then you're still fucking insane. The US and Israel have done nothing but mass murder civilians that entire time period.
Pigsy_roastee69@reddit
You don't have to tell me cuz I'm all about "Marg Bag Amerika" and even Europe for that matter cuz y'all are stooges who did legitimize all this American imperialism for decades. That's why I know that Russia is a great boogeyman to be kept alive no matter what for the long term.

Your country massacred civilians just because someone dialed the wrong number.
Your Military, with Congress and Presidential approval practice one of the most Inhumane methods, that Israel also does, that is to kill a whole family and guests at weddings, birthdays and even funerals of someone killed previously by another US of A sanctioned murder.
And BTW, Kissinger and Dick Cheney together, or alone, are serious contenders for the Nobel Prize of Mass Murdering.

This USA MAGA administration attacking Iran may turn out to have the effect of keeping the Iranian theocracy in power. Now they can more plausibly blame everything on foreign enemies to distract from their own thuggery and incompetence.

WestcoastAlex@reddit
you are wrong. Stubbs is right.
Kaymish_@reddit
The USA thought they were still the big dog that could come in and take over Iran and prevent any resistance to their boot stomping on the necks of the world. They gobbled up their own propaganda and didn't realize they are a dying empire that has already decayed too much to take in even a middling power like Iran that has been crushed by sanctions and wracked with internal unrest.
Recurs1ve@reddit
The US hasn't even tried yet. Boots are not on the ground.
Maeglom@reddit
While that's true, the thing is the situation massively favors Iran. There's a reason that even though every president this century has been pitched on this war either by US war hawks or Israel everybody passed on it until Trump.
We've got a huge technology and military advantage, but that may not matter so much with the geography on Iran's side and the lack of achievable goals on our side.
Icy_Ad_8802@reddit
Although I agree that the USA has impressive military tech, the almost disposable drones wrecked havoc this time. Loosing millions on a jet compared to loosing cheap drones… maybe the USA’s advantage was overestimated.
Maeglom@reddit
I think it's more the thing where whenever there's a big leap forward in war technology the last king of the hill gets punched in the nose. The reason the story of David and Goliath is an archetype is because Goliath was a bad motherfucker.
VladimiroPudding@reddit
You know how people say Russia plays a war of attrition disposing of human lives? These past 2 months of Iran War showed the United States strategy is to play a war of attrition with money.
Recurs1ve@reddit
I agree 100%
WestcoastAlex@reddit
dumbass.
the US will loose even harder with 'boots on the ground' and everyone knows it
Recurs1ve@reddit
Ok, I'm not arguing the point. I think boots on the ground would be a monumental mistake. My point was the US isn't trying yet, if they were really trying there would be boots on the ground, period.
WestcoastAlex@reddit
there is a reason why the navy isnt hanging out right up in the gulf.. we arent getting accurate information about US boats being hit
Iran took out the 5th Fleet dockyard in Bahrain straight away, and others too. the Baharain dock was vital because it has the cranes necessary for reloading missiles and restocking supplies
if a major ship went down they would have thousands of seamen swimming for their lives .. hehehe
Gulf states are begging them not to restart
this was entirely israel's war.. entirely
Recurs1ve@reddit
Yes it was. Trump thinks he's a master negotiator and got played into being Israel's lapdog.

Kaymish_@reddit
What exactly do you think is delusional? The USA still thinks they're the big dog on the block? Because they are acting like they're the biggest.
Was it Iran being weakened by sanctions? Or was it the internal unrest? Because I don't see how those are controversial or delusional statements.
Or are you upset that I described the USA as a dying empire? Because just look at them and it's obvious that they're not on the up and up.

Exactly. They can spin it any way they want right now but the bottom line is trump started a war by himself for zero reason.
Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
What are you guys on about? Israel started the war, the US joined in shortly after.

You mean the war that started just days after U.S. officials were saying that the politics would look better if Israel were to attack first? Yeah, sure, the U.S. was totally just following the lead and helping an ally in need. /s

Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
Never said or implied that the US was “helping an ally in need”
The US and Iran were having negotiations at the time, and the very same night that reports emerged that they were close to a deal, Israel bombed Iran. Because Israel actively wants war with Iran. Netanyahu has been trying since the 80s to convince the US to bomb Iran.

Some possible reasons i can think of:
The American oligarchs wanted a distraction from the Epstein files by creating a crisis even worse.
America's defence industry needed more demand so trump or one of Trump's allies decided to create a conflict which spiralled wayyyyy out of their control. They probably assumed iran would immediately fold.
Oil oligarchs wanted more money so they figured disrupting oil flow for a few days would raise prices but then the conflict took off beyond their control.
Trump wanted show people that he's doing stuff so he figured humiliating the hate Iranian regime would be nice, but the conflict didnt end in a few days.
For all these reasons, one or more people in Trump's admin didnt realise how bad a war with iran would be.
hgwaz@reddit
America can make a shitload more money selling its oil now

happymudkipz@reddit
I really don't believe this line of reasoning. The public has about as much information as is needed for a conviction, the public of the US just doesn't care enough to push for anything. You didn't need a war to distract people from something they already didn't care about.
MarmotFullofWoe@reddit
There are very serious allegations in there that have not been publicly discussed including testimony from a victim who was 14 and pregnant when she was raped by Trump.
Her testimony was considered credible by the FBI.
Further there is talk of even worse content such as the babies of victims being murdered.

Nothing happened. Nothing will. The people have thier bread and circus. More people cared about watching Diddy trials and watching Amber Herd on the stand than the Epstein trials. Illustrious-Run3591@reddit
FWIW the testimony this guy is referring to is from a well known litigious lawsuit guy who has been making all sorts of plausible but bullshit suits since like the 80s. I don't like Trump either but the reason no one is talking about this specific event is because it's definitely bullshit.
If you're willingly spreading conspiracy theories to disinform people then you are just as bad as a Trump voter.

MarmotFullofWoe@reddit
The war distracted the public.
Trump has signalled that he wants to start a dust up with Cuba next. This would be another distraction.
Illustrious-Run3591@reddit
My genuine belief is that this is all because Iran threatened to kill Trump last year. And a bit of retribution/vengeance because he didn't get that peace prize.

What was the point of the tariffs? And do you remember “build the wall”? What was the point of so many other things? What was the point of the war in Afghanistan? At one point we have to understand that a dying empire will try to bring everyone down with them
ThevaramAcolytus@reddit
The war in Afghanistan had a logical foundational point as a response to the 9/11 attacks in New York City and on the Pentagon. It just should have ended in two months after initially taking Kabul and instead went on almost 20 years too long.
godintraining@reddit
What connection did Afghanistan have with 9/11?
ThevaramAcolytus@reddit
The Al-Qaeda training camps based in the country which the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) government at the time permitted it. And Bin Laden, who had allegedly ordered it, had operated out of there.

Looking at project 2025 and the dark enlightenment or the theory that Peter thiel and his cronies believe in. WestcoastAlex@reddit
so what you are saying is that israel committed genocide on Iran
discoFalston@reddit
I’m asking you a question
WestcoastAlex@reddit
israel attacked Iran. twice. retaliation is expected. once israel's ability to attack other countries is neutralized, there can be peace
retaliation to illegal agression is not genocide. you are simply trying to build some kind of equivalence to whitewash israel's genocidal actions
discoFalston@reddit
You used the term “demolish” and suggested Israel should be “gone” before peace can exist.
Unless you want to retract those statements, that is genocide.

As long as the US does the blockade, there isnt a ceasefire.
BuddhaLennon@reddit
So, when Trump declares a ceasefire, does he think that means the other side has to cease firing, but he can continue firing? Because that’s what keeps happening.
balamb_fish@reddit
Weak AF. Trump threatens to bomb them at the end of the ceasefire.
Iran closes the strait again and refuses to send a delegation to Islamabad and Trump just folds and extends the 'deadline'.
It's obvious Trump doesn't want to restart the war and the Iranians know it.
Butane9000@reddit
You're not thinking ahead. If Trump really does start bombing again the only options left are the life sustaining infrastructure. Roads, bridges, power, and their oil production. This would be irrevocable for the people of Iran.
Whereas keeping the blockade in place along with Iran keeping it closed on their end results in a long term winning strategy for Trump. A lot of foreign nations depend on the strait for the oil. The longer it's closed the more they'll want it open and at the end of the day Iran is in a weaker bargaining position.
Like it or not it is driving business to the Western hemisphere. It also is directly impacting the long term outlook on Asian manufacturing. Which will force businesses beholden to investors to start eye balling production lines elsewhere.
As far as keeping the domestic front stable he can slap an export tariff on oil if need be to help reign in prices or an outright export ban. Or he can use this as an impetus to increase domestic production.
Is Trump smart enough for this? Maybe he's been in the real estate business his whole life. But in all honesty it's probably the people behind and underneath him looking at the long term issues. Out of the entire world the United States is least effected by the strait of Hormuz closure. And the world's intransigence in getting it reopened is telling in an of itself.
Iran has weaponized what is international waters effecting pretty much everyone more then their opponents. At the same time their demanding ransom for the oil on the boats these people have paid for. Hard to say you want their support against your opponent when your extorting them.
What the current situation will do is create an untenable timeline of increasing scarcity in Iran. Eventually the people will rise up against the government as history shows. But history also shows what tend to replace what existed before is seldom better.
AdhesivenessFun2060@reddit
The fee is a drop of their profits. Its much easier to pay the fee than go to war. Theyre still making massive profit. War costs money and keeps the strait closed which makes it wven more expensive. Not even factoring in the political consequences, its better business to pay than to fight over it.
Butane9000@reddit
It's not just the fee. If they pay Iran the fee they can be subject to legal consequences on the United States which includes potentially severe penalties. No business is going to try that especially with an ongoing blockade. Imagine paying a ransom on the product you paid for then attempting to sail it out only for it to be caught and seized. You not only lose the ransom toll payment, you lose the product which gets seized by the US, you then face potential fines/seizure of assets by the US government on top of the original product, then because you violated the law any insurance you bought is num and void.
That's why it's more than "just a fee" and why the majority of these ships aren't moving.
WestcoastAlex@reddit
also the strait isnt Iran's only option for export or import
Recurs1ve@reddit

imunfair@reddit
Until he pulls the carriers and troops out of the region and stops the blockade there's no way he actually means it - he's just rearming the allies in the region and moving more forces into place for an attack, likely a limited ground assault. I wouldn't be surprised if it was to snatch some Iranian oil infrastructure since they don't really have the capability to capture the uranium unless Iran has been incredibly dumb about hiding and protecting it.
jcooli09@reddit
I don't believe him.
nikmah@reddit
Oh, archive.md thing didn't work, I want to read the whole article. Looks like Trump isn't very keen on resuming this war with Iran and I don't blame him. Bad intelligence from Mossad started this war with the so called "shock and awe" strikes on Iran that was suppose to make Iran collapse but it obviously didn't. Trump didn't have a clue what he was getting himself into at the start of the war and now he knows what sort of adversary he's dealing with and he wants out and this ceasefire window is probably an opportunity for Trump to make the ceasefire evolve into an off-ramp.
WilRic@reddit

Ok, this is like the third Tuesday where Trump has capitulated, caved, walked it back, minced or otherwise chickened out. Well, The Advisor to Iran’s parliament just said: Trump’s ceasefire extension is “a ploy to buy time for a surprise strike”, Iran must take the initiative
