Fuck 2016. Bowie. Prince. Cohen. Rickman. Carrie Fisher. It really was the beginning of he end.
Negative-Wrap95@reddit
Lost my dad that year too.
Notermlimits4GEQBuS@reddit
I lost my mom in December of that yr :(
therealpopkiller@reddit
Also Sharon Jones, Glen Frey, Antonin Scalia (which set off a chain of events we will feel the effects of for decades), Gary Shandling, Anton Yelchin, Gene Wilder… the reaper was busy
Notermlimits4GEQBuS@reddit
I didn’t know Shandler died.
MrNinoBrown1906@reddit
Muhammad Ali as well
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
That was like the 78th time Wilder's death was reported. I'm still not convinced he actually croaked.
debaser64@reddit

And George Michael on Christmas Day. Fuck me
unholy_hotdog@reddit
I had a breakup right after the 2016 election AND one of the cats I was sitting for died.

I actually had no idea he died. If you were to ask me when that Prince Super Bowl halftime show was, I would've definitely thought it was sometime in the last ten years!
WuTang4thechildrn@reddit (OP)
You didn’t know Prince haws dead??? Ooook
No_Zombie2021@reddit
Obligatory ”While my Guitar Gently Weeps” link.

Rumor is that he pulled this off after not making the Rolling Stones top 100 guitarist list.
Kevin_LeStrange@reddit
As a Jehovah's Witness, will Prince Rogers Nelson be one of the 144,000 anointed chosen to rule in Heaven? Or will he enjoy eternal life on a newly restored earth?
Doctor_Tyrell@reddit
Save some of that edge for the other kids.
nopester24@reddit
the artists formerly known as living
WuTang4thechildrn@reddit (OP)
No disrespecting Prince on this thread
snorday@reddit
He took guardianship of a 16 year old so he could groom her. He was a great musician, but a creepy little man as well.
Doctor_Tyrell@reddit
Oh, fuck off.
snorday@reddit
Let's stop idolizing grown men who take advantage of teenage girls. Cry me a river- he was what he was. He's gone now.
Doctor_Tyrell@reddit
You're momma raised a fool.
snorday@reddit
And you can fuck right off as well
Jolly_Werewolf_7356@reddit
So?
WuTang4thechildrn@reddit (OP)
So move on troll
snorday@reddit
You are little old to have a parasocial relationship with a dead man.
Doctor_Tyrell@reddit
This is why no one invites you anywhere.
snorday@reddit
Ok buddy! 😂

SomeGuyOverYonder@reddit
Has it been that long?
bascule@reddit
The very first song I played after I found out was Let’s Go Crazy and all the lines about not letting the elevator bring you down took on a rather awkward feeing
protossaccount@reddit
I drove for uber in the twin cities when he died. I spent the entire night driving people to First Ave so they could place flowers and mourn with others.
Ellie Golding and Band of Horses were playing that night as well. Those 3 were all of my trips.
snorday@reddit
I love this man's music, but he was in fact a creepy little groomer.
hyzerKite@reddit
Saw him at CLT airport. I ran to get a glimpse when someone told me he was there. He was so very very small next to his defenseive lineman sized guards. I miss him every day. Oh damn, I am wearing a Purple Rain shirt right now. RIP Prince you were the King IDGAF what they say.

Everyone had a copy of Purple Rain hanging around.
MsBlondeViking@reddit
Probably the first movie I watched, at far too young of an age. Probably why I’ve always thought Prince was beautiful.

First album I bought with my own money was 1999. One of the artists I wish I saw live before passing.
zwartepiet_@reddit
I was lucky to see him in Toronto nearly 20 years ago now , one of the best shows I’ve ever seen of any music genre. The man was a true artist
Peaches4U2@reddit
Happy cake day! 🎂
Murphy_Dropkick410@reddit
Still one of the best halftime shows ever.. and it freaking rained during purple rain 💜
Prince at the Superbowl XLI - Purple Rain
Starscream147@reddit
Yeah that was rad. Watched that live.
Dr_Disaster@reddit
Performance was so good that God himself provided the effects.
Murphy_Dropkick410@reddit
💯
WuTang4thechildrn@reddit (OP)
I don’t think there is one better. There are aspects of that show you can’t recreate
Murphy_Dropkick410@reddit
Edited to reflect 🙏

Sometimes it snows in april Sometimes i feel so bad. So bad. Sometimes i wish that life was never-ending And all good things, they say, never last.

Glad I got to see him perform, Musicology tour.
MrNinoBrown1906@reddit
Halftime show had the Marching 100 and it rained during Purple Rain. I dint think you can top that as a halftime show
djseifer@reddit
I would have loved to have gone to one of his "Piano and a Microphone" concerts, where it's just him, a piano, and a microphone in a really small venue. Someone uploaded video footage to YouTube and it looked pretty damn cool to be so close to him, but it got taken down fast.
AskingFooAFriend@reddit
Damn! It's been that long already. Purple Rain was the first concert I ever attended. I spent my monthly college allowance on the tickets and t-shirt. Money well spent. He was the greatest!
No_Abroad6533@reddit
The year all the aliens left the planet to its doom
anitabelle@reddit
I was fortunate enough to see him in concert in 2012. He rode around in a white bicycle. He played piano, guitar and danced around with endless energy. It’s easily the best performance I’ve ever seen live. So happy that I got to see a live performance of at least one of who I considered the big 3 of the 80s (other 2 being Madonna and MJ).
WuTang4thechildrn@reddit (OP)
I really wish I good have seen him live.
JeffTS@reddit
I was in my car outside a Bed, Bath & Beyond in Newburgh, NY awaiting the arrival of the puppy that I adopted when this came over the radio.
Kelvin_Inman@reddit
I was at a data security training at a larger conference, and the company running it was the ones who did the digital forensic investigated to find who gave him the drugs that caused the overdose. Oddly, they showed an image of Prince, from when he was found collapsed in his private elevator. I did not expect that. I’ve seen worse, we likely all have, but that shook me, and seared into my mind.
losgidi@reddit
That's really sad. I read her been dead for hours before they find him. A tragic end and nobody was ever charged I believe.
BurnabyMartin@reddit
That morning I woke up at 3 am for no particular reason and sat and watched the sun rise over Maui as the news unfolded.
Status-Hovercraft784@reddit
He shouldn't be gone. Truly tragic.
Illustrious_Profile6@reddit
His name was Robert Paulsen
limelight022@reddit
Some of the best tunes ever written! His songs still have a unique sound and catchy hooks as ever!
usernames_suck_ok@reddit
It feels longer, honestly. I've been thinking about him a lot lately and how creative he was in a non-mainstream way that still ended up widely appreciated. Maybe because I've been jammin' Hammer's "Pray" with the "When Dove's Cry" steal in it lately.
OwlImpressive2931@reddit
I would always see him driving around town in his purple prowler. 😆

I saw him once in a downtown Minneapolis department store food court. He was a tiny, tiny human being who radiated charisma.
