Cha-cha slide or Gangnam Style which was your go to party / disco song ?

Randomly realised I’d not heard the cha cha slide since primary school 20 years ago and wondering if it has been replaced by gangnam style or did your region have a different song ?

Sort of related to this, what is with people forming into circles and kicking legs into the middle during New York, New York? It was a thing when I was at uni (2001-5), definitely was before and I've been at weddings, 60th birthdays and so on where it happens. Is there a specific reason for this?

Wasn’t that the hokky cokky or how ever it’s spelt ? That’s burned into my memory for some reason but not sure about New York lol
neilm1000@reddit
The Hokey Cokey is in a line, like the Conga.
DameKumquat@reddit
Yeah, it was the last song in many nightclubs and at weddings etc,.everyone holding each other up, etc (1986-2000)
I think the idea was it got people both happy but calmer. Unlike goth clubs which could end with Nellie the Elephant and still not worry about any violence.

It's a homage to The Rockettes. They often danced to power songs, including New York, New York
Polz34@reddit
At primary school 'superman' or 'locomotion'
Secondary school was mainly 'Saturday night' think the 'Macarena' came in a few years after.
Can you guess my age?!?
Soggy_Detective_4737@reddit
I'm going to guess you were born around 1984
Polz34@reddit
Spot on. What a time to be alive!
Soggy_Detective_4737@reddit
The reason I chose that year was I have siblings born 80, 82, and 83, and I taught them how to do the Superman dance and The Locomotion when they were tiddlers!
Demonthief27@reddit (OP)
I hear how good the 80s/90s were for its vibe I only experienced half of the 90s and some of that was in diapers lol wish I was 20 years older
Soggy_Detective_4737@reddit
I was born at the start of the 70s. I definitely feel like there was more personality to the late 70s- mid 90s, than later years.

It’s certainly the one and only! Just a little after my time for school but remember it on the radio a lot!
Soggy_Detective_4737@reddit
The One and Only is a completely different vibe. (Yes, I'm teasing). Still love belting that one out.

If anyone else wants to watch (and learn the dance), it’s here:

Little bit of trivia: ‘Lonely This Christmas’ isn’t an Elvis song, and he never released it as a single
It was by Mud’s lead singer, Les Gray
(Elvis has sung it in concert, but the recorded version you’ll have heard is Mud)
