Hello GENX.. What advice would u give to a 23 yro about growing up

I'm GenX, with an SG dad and boomer mom, and pretty much good memories of childhood and all that. Yes, dad wasn't always around because he was working, and mom was a SAHM, so I didn't feel like I was raised by self centered, neglectful parents. Very much a YMMV thing. Start saving as soon as possible, maybe even start a retirement account. That is one place where I don't recall my parents saying much. I know they didn't want me being stupid with money, but I don't remember them pushing the idea of planning that far ahead. I should have done a better job of this. Stay away from habits that could have a negative impact on your health, especially in the long run. If you pursue education beyond high school, look at career choices that are less prone to being taken over by computers and also look for something practical. Studying philosophy may be a passion, and being well-rounded in your education is a good thing, but a degree in philosophy isn't likely to lead to gainful employment, and unless you're a trust fund kid, you're gonna need to provide your own food and shelter. If possible, look at ways that you could be at least semi-self employed. I wish I had done more of this, but in my younger years, information was harder to come by in general, and that's another area where my parents didn't say much. Working in a large corporation isn't always the worst thing, but there's a certain soullessness impersonality to it that if you can avoid it, you should.
