What do you think about people being rounded up from the streets like this for mobilization? This is Ukraine.

"people"? you mean men. men are rounded up.
this is gama bias in action.
Aulawabe@reddit
As a non Ukrainian living in EU I won't really critisize or comment how Ukrainians go about their shit defending their country. It's their problem and their people should handle it. But what really gets me is that we send billions of Euroes in Aid while rich Ukrainians roam around in EU with their BMWs, Audi's and Mercs. I see G classes, RS Audis and BMW M cars all over Croatia, Montenegro and in the West.
Those people can be sent to the front. F them...
CmdrJemison@reddit
God forbid people have cars. Having a Ukraine license plate doesn't mean person is ukrainian.
Rich folks also have the same right to move countries as war refugees.
Yet we don't know how many money those people collected or send to finance ukraine troops. Do you know?
Aulawabe@reddit
Ne budi naivan.
PavelKringa55@reddit
On one side it's necessary to defend the country.
On the other it's understandable that someone does not want to fight in a war. If you get injured in a war, your life will probably be very miserable - state help is never a great option.
This violent approach is certainly producing bad optics. And after recent news of corruption where mobilization officials were abducting people and asking for a bribe to let them go it makes the entire organization very suspicious.
ThisUniversity5224@reddit
It depends on its government. UA gov ain't doing shit for its people but making the war last longer. They had the chance to surround for years now and they still want their own people to die, no wonder everyone's leaving UA, no one wants to die for their gov.
Maleficent_Remove_93@reddit
That's not an ukranian number plate.
bannedandfurious@reddit
Bulgarian plates.
Also don't draft dodge.
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
Why wouldn't you draft dodge? Why should you die in a ditch for some war profiteering tycoons?
bannedandfurious@reddit
For which war profiteer did Croatians die in Vukovar?
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
For those connected to the HDZ.
bannedandfurious@reddit
Not because you were invaded and ethnically cleansed by Milošević regime?
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
You asked who did they die for, or who did they fight for. They fought for the HDZ government and its newly created elite. The fact that the other side was persecuting Croats doesn't change the fact that Croatian soldiers fought for the HDZ.
Let's not romanticize war. The only correct option in the 90s was desertion and draft dodging.
PavelKringa55@reddit
You're a moron. Most Croatians fought for their country. The fact that there was profiteering in a war from some criminals does not change their patriotic motivation.
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
Yeah, that might have been their motivation, but they were objectively fighting for the HDZ government and their criminal allies. Both are completely compatible.
You do not fight for an abstract "country". If you join a military, you're fighting for the government it represents. In our case that was HDZ.
PavelKringa55@reddit
Dude, Croats fought to protect their country against Serb aggression. Was there crime behind the lines? Sure. Is that good? Totally not. But that does not mean it was wrong to defend the country.
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
You're missing the point entirely. I never even mentioned Croatian war crimes. I just said that the people who fought in the Croatian armed forces fought for the Croatian state, ie. for the HDZ government and its cronies.
Yeah people went to war because they believed they were defending some abstract "homeland" or "nation", but those are just imaginary constructs. What they did do, in practice, is fight for a government and its ruling regime. Every army in the world is tasked with doing exactly that - and I don't think my government is worth dying for, so I'll always dodge the draft if possible.
EdoValhalla77@reddit
So according to you they should have choose not to fight at all and accept Serb overlords. You do realize that if they had chosen that you never would be able to display that small flag under your nickname. On the other hand you might be a Serb who would like something like that have had happened, but then you should do yourself a favor and learn about who are the world’s Masters when it comes to war profiteering.

It's Russian military plates, they're somewhat similar to the civilian ones except that they don't have a flag or numerical code of the region, instead it's letters (indicating the military district), also it lacks the requirement for cyrillic letters that are similar to latin ones that they have for civilian plates.

One of my friend's grandpa went to Don river battles around Stalingrad.
Army leaders did not let Hungarians stay in heated houses where Germans stayed, out of punishment.
Disobedient people were beaten to death.
Leaders ordered them to protect about 200km of frontline, poorly equipped, sitting in the snow in -30 celsius while Germans retreated.
About 85 percent of them died there.
This grandpa of my friend worked as a cook. When nobody was watching, he put as many food as he could fit in his bags, and started walking 2500 km to Hungary in the Soviet winter.
I sure would not trust any person to tell me to kill and die, and surely not a Hungarian person. (I am citizen of Hungary)
Eigetsu@reddit
it's taped over with fake numbers.
Edish03@reddit
Indeed an Ukrainian number plate. Specifically from Odessa, but a Soviet one from 1980-1994.
Maleficent_Remove_93@reddit
Well that can't be street legal.
Edish03@reddit
The location is "Shopping Center Volna " - ТЦ Волна at Semena Paliia St., Odessa. The last street view image on that location was in 2015 when the shopping centre was still under construction, so here's the latest picture I could find.
Edish03@reddit
The first letter is just a sequence for the registration plate. When the numbers from that region run out they switch to another letter, it doesn't indicate the country. And yes the last two letters indicate the region where it's registered. Besides the plates are technically legal, but only for cars registered before 1994 and still driven by the original owner, so if the car changes ownership it has to receive new plates. And the plates on that van might be stolen.
Maleficent_Remove_93@reddit
Ok, the letter might be OK, not that familiar with the ukranian plates standard, but why is a plate that was used until '94 on a van that enteres production in 2003?

Lol. I don't owe anything to anyone besides my friends and family. When it comes to wealth and prosperity it is always personal responsibility and rugged individualism and every man for himself for any working class person, but when it comes to hardship or danger it's always "your duty to your homeland" or "community" or whatever the fuck. But the rich and connected never get taken anyways.
What homeland? What community? Fuck the homeland, and fuck the moralizing bastards too. And fuck this cynical hypocritical bullshit. If this ever happened to my so-called "country", I'd sooner fight whoever comes to "mobilize" me than the russians and i despise the russians too.
The only one truth in this world is that everyone is out for themselves only, no one will save you when you lose your job, no one will lift a finger when you get evicted, no one will help you when you are homeless, no one cares when you are destitute, nobody gives a fuck if you are miserable.
The rich, the powerful and their paid-for politician lapdogs laugh in our faces while they plunder the country, steal what rightfully ours and spend active effort in making our lives more miserable and we are supposed to sacrifice more for some abstract bullshit? For the greater good that is never ours? For a system that only takes and barely gives scraps?

Buddy, don’t hide behind the backs of Ukrainian soldiers like our draft dodgers do. Why don’t you come here and help protect your own country as well? We are exhausted and broken—broken by the constant loss of our brothers-in-arms, by the rich buying their way out of the front, by government corruption, delayed military decisions, and Western aid that is only enough to watch us slowly lose our land and our people. What motivates us in the 5th year of this war? Nothing. It’s just pure inertia now. Hope is fading. If we don’t get serious support, we will definitely collapse within 5 years because we’ll simply run out of men, and you can't fight a war like this with only women. Our lives have been used as toilet paper, and soon enough, it will be your turn to be next in line.

Personally I feel like people live in a bubble. This would happen in the west do if your (or our) country was under a genocidal invasion. You get drafted. If you hide, you are found and conscripted. I don't blame who hides from mobilization, or the forceful nature of this. It's war. I blame who caused the war. The russians. End of story.
Salty-Wash3964@reddit
Reality of any country going to war, your rights as a man are thrown out the window. Another reason why any country can eat dirt in face of war.

NoSenseNitro@reddit
Ukrainian here. Video is legit. Licence plates - because we buy cheap cars all over Europe and don't make custom clearance and use Eu numbers. But it's only works for military. Regarding the process, it's a forced mobilization. That is, since there are no volunteers, people don't want to join the army. And getting a deferment is quite difficult. Because of this, many men are just sitting at home. In short, the story is complicated, but these guys in military uniforms aren't exactly soldiers and it's not a fact that they fought.
afrodammy@reddit
As a Ukrainian, what's your opinion on this, do you think all Ukrainians have duty to join?
I'm asking cause i don't know what I'd do in his shoes really. Seen so many horrific videos of the front-line, Ukrainian dude getting stabbed to death, Russian guy losing his mind and just froze in his place then got torn to pieces by a grenade. Shits particularly brutal there.
NoSenseNitro@reddit
It's actually a difficult question. On the one hand, yes, we must defend our homeland, but on the other, the state is doing everything it can to prevent such a desire. And yes, we didn't start this war. It's just that one dwarf decided to write himself into history and become the restorer of the Soviet Union. I'd also like to remind you that more developed countries also had this practice, for example, during the First and Second World Wars. And not only that.
Regarding the horrors of war - what did you expect, if this really is a war? Not local conflicts like those that have occurred in other countries. This isn't like bombing Bedouins in flip-flops with $1M precision weapons. And there's no pity for the ruzians here. They shouldn't have gone to kill in another country for money or resolved their legal problems at the expense of Ukrainians.
afrodammy@reddit
I'm not really arguing the morality of it.
I'm just asking if you'd blame someone not wanting to die. seeing the brutality of the war in 4k, i honestly don't know. Yes the duty part is understandable and commendable. But not wanting to die is also understandable no?
Also if Ukraine forces ppl to join the army, i can imagine Russia does that too. So what do u think of that too?
NoSenseNitro@reddit
I don't judge people who "hide." It's a personal matter. It's the state's job to motivate people to serve. For example, by offering benefits, higher salaries, and so on.
Regarding ruzia, despite the hiden mobilization, they still lure people in to solve their financial problems by paying $20,000-$50,000 for signing a contract, and $2,500 a month. Or they use contracts as a way to avoid criminal liability or get out of prison. They deliberately set people up to force them to sign.
Glokter@reddit
So did you volunteer or are you waiting for them to snatch you from the streets?
NoSenseNitro@reddit
As for myself, on February 26, 2024, I went to the military registration and enlistment office to enlist. They told me I had no experience, so I should go home. That's why I thought about joining the army in 2022 and 2023. At the same time, I started volunteering and helping friends who had been drafted. Then I got "protection from military service," and I'm doing everything I can to avoid it. And my friends from the army advise me to do the same.
MiserableDude66@reddit

Burlotier@reddit
When you are forced to mobilise and the people resist , it shows that the war is already lost as the people either don’t see the invasion as hostile either they don’t like the government or both .
Russia also gives incentive for people to fight by giving a huge paycheck, doing ceremonies and rewarding them or even have a talk with government officials, even putin .
In addition it is barbaric of the EU to force the Ukrainian refugees to go back to an active war zone unlike Russia which has 12 million or so Ukrainian refugees turned into citizens .
You can disagree with me , even call me a Russian bot but there is a reason there are more Ukrainian desertifications and a huge part of the Ukrainian military is composed of mercenaries .
ctorex@reddit
It is what is happening anywhere in the world when your country is invaded but you think it is not your duty to defend it! I don't get what is so controversial!
SmollFroggg@reddit
Ukrainian constitution says "all citizens should defend country", why females can freely cross border and not being drafted and forced to take a part in a war when your country being invaded, are Ukrainian government do not care about winning the war, at least they can be used at TBC (Territorial Breeding Centers) to keep population from decreasing? Also what makes your "duty" to defend country? This is some bullshit from 1916

This would happen in Greece, too, if a mass mobilisation were to be declared. Eventually, after all volunteers joined, the recruitment services would use the Police or MPs to scour the country for military aged males who did not join. We are more like Ukraine and Russia than we think.

As somebody who is neutral in views of the Russo-Ukrainian war, this is sign of desperation on the Ukrainian side and that things are getting worser and worser by the month. When forced conscription is in place you basically know that you are losing the support of your own people, and when you are losing the support of your own people you are heading for defeat...shame that this war had to happen at all!

In a way you are right. The country where I am from has had a war 30 years ago, both many people to date curse them self's that they didn't leave when they could. For me personally this war is tragedy because the Russian and Ukrainian people never had the hatred that we have in the Balkans, and because of geopolitical reason Ukraine ended up in war that could have been prevented if cooler heads prevailed. If the another war starts in the Balkans I would have no sympathy for neither side since I know what we think about each other, the tragedy is when you have war with people who has close ties to each other...that my friend is the greatest evil!

Russia does this also, even in Ukrainian lands that they occupy, but for some reason people only post videos like this when it's Ukraine doing it, hmm..
And then people will blame Zelensky and Ukraine for "sending their men to die" when this war could stop at any moment if that fascist pig in the Kremlin would pull his forces out of the country. So is life. We are part of a society and we can't survive on our own.
Hopeful_Addition7834@reddit
Anglo-Saxon common law is quite a lot about only regulating things that hurt someone, like breaching a contract.
Enforcing little details and social norms is only done in "non-white" places. It is a scam.
Nobody in an actual free market service will ask about the school education of the provider.
(Sorry if I sounded critical to your family, though, and sounded too harsh. I think those blind norms pull back people from evolving)
Ujemegaz@reddit
OP is talking about Ukraine.
Hopeful_Addition7834@reddit
You said, that is life in society, and I pointed out Anglo-Saxon common law, that exists in Anglo-Saxon societies.
These are not inherent human behaviour, but rather behaviours of enslaved/second-class population.
Ujemegaz@reddit
Can you prove that Anglo-Saxons are humans.
Hopeful_Addition7834@reddit
Well. What I can say, back to the original post, is that if some random people claim that I should kill and die for their power structure, then I simply don't have to.
And I could even push further, that if one human stands between another human and some perfect eternal wisdom, then I could claim the same on himself, that he is secretly a disobedient slave of me.
(I believe that all humans are equal, though, so for example someone could rightully shoot these recruiters in self-defence if he wishes)
Hopeful_Addition7834@reddit
I think that humans are inherently cosmopolitan, and there are criminal gangs in region that are de facto accepted internationally by other criminal gangs like that, and they are called the government.
In each region, someone creates and spreads top-down some local superstitions to try to manipulate poor and uneducated people into thinking that dying on the battlefield under the command of the criminal gang is something to celebrate. If these poor and uneducated don't act on the narrative, then others will force them, unless they escape.
It is all a scam, and school system, media, and entertainment are all tools for this.
That is what I think.
And I also believe that all individuals are equal in front of God, and God gave agency to each person to try themselves out in the mortal life, and that restricting this is done by secret combinations since the time of Cain, to serve Satan. (Last paragraph is current understanding of actual LDS theology)
